Why do they make it so hard to adopt. You would think that they would be thrilled that an animal wouldn't have to be put down. Folks who come to adopt are not criminals or low-life ~ they would like a companion and saving an animal is a wonderful thing. I know it is good to check out the adoptees but to have 14 pages to fill out ~ duh! The Capital has been doing a wonderful thing by putting pictures of animals available for adoption but if the SPCA acts as God, they will have a hard time adopting them. I hope the SPCA wakes up and has a heart and love for the sweethearts who need a home.

We got our girl Sophie from the Annapolis SPCA. We were pleased with the process. It was quick and pretty painless. We met her on a Saturday and got the call by Monday that our application was approved. We picked her up the following Saturday. They gave us a 30 day insurance policy for her, which we used when she had a tummy ache due to eating too much grass! We love our dog and could not have asked for a better /easier way to adopt a dog in need. We have already gone back to try to adopt another puppy who needs a home. I appreciate their thoroughness!!!

I'm interested to volunteer at the SPCA. I started in mid-June 2008 to call and email I also mail a written application to volunteer at the animal shelter. It took a month to get a response in the mail. I got the letter telling me they cannot use my services as a volunteer. I never heard about that before. I'm positive there is always possibility to volunteer since this is a service we do because we want to help. I could have had at least an explanation why they don't take volunteer people or don't need my services. I beleive volunteering has chaged over the years and it seems very complicated. Is it becoming a culture with bureaucracy and more paper works to complete?

My husband and I were trying to adopt a puppy recently fro the Annapolis SPCA. He was trying to surprise me for my Birthday but he couldn't because of their policy. So he started out the process by filling out the 6 PAGE long application! Then we were told that we would get a phone call soon ,to seek permission from any other household members( b/c it's POLICY). So after we do more and more they call and say the puppy is sick and being treated for Kennel Cough. Which of course is holding up the process b/c before we can adopt her , we have to introduce our dog first. Well, the puppy is sick so now we have to wait......if they were, to meet and get a long then they wanted to do a home inspection! Anyways , we then get a phone call from the director saying that they will not be giving us the puppy b/c she didn't interact well w/ a smaller dog! WHO CARES !!!! Maybe the puppy didn't like That particular dog! Who's to say that she wouldn't like my dog....or eventually at least. I mean this place was just ridiculous. Here my husband and I are , trying to do a good thing by adopting a dog, just to have this happen. We are very upset and I won't ever attempt to adopt an animal from this shelter again. The price is decent but not worth all the hassle that WE went through!!! Adopting a pet shouldn't be a long drawn out process. I know they care about the welfare of the animal and all but so do the people who are shelling out 100.00 + to keep an animal from being put down.

This place always has so many animals because they make it almost impossible for people to adopt. The application is about 6 pages long and asks ridiculous questions. I wanted to adopt a dog that's been there for over six months but they
