BEST SALON!!
by Paula J.
Progressions is AWESOME! One of the better salon in MD! I love it there. Kellye is a multi-talented stylist! She's perfect. Beautiful, very fashionable and very professional. Despite the fact that she's so young but she's beyond perfect!! Everyone is nice and professional and the customer services is the best!!!!!!!!!!

Ira is Awesome!!!
by Maribelle D.
I also read the reviews in the Washingtonian and wanted to give Ira a try. I was extremely pleased with my haircut. I had super long hair and I wanted a change. I wasn't sure what I wanted, and I told Ira that I just wanted something new, somewhat trendy, but mostly a haircut that will grow in well (I didn't want to have to come in and get my haircut every 2-3 months) and that fits my face. I definitely got what I asked for. Its been almost a year since my haircut and it has grown in very well. Everyone, including myself, loves my hair! I get plenty of compliments still!!! Ira is worth the money!!!

Old fashioned haircut
by sandi f.
Ira is definitely overrated. He talks a good game but doesn't deliver. He has his own agenda and is living in a time warp. My haircut was old fashioned, boring, as far away from a modern haircut as you can get. He lacks talent but he'll tell you otherwise because it's all about him. I've paid $125-$175 for haircuts in the past at my favorite salon in NYC (Bumble & Bumble) and never minded because my haircuts were impeccably awesome. Ira's $150 haircut is simply NOT WORTH IT.

What a rip off!
by Monique D.
I wanted to get a great short haircut. I had left my hair grow a bit, and I was ready for something new. The Washingtonian magazine was reviewing this salon very well and the owner Ira as a great artist! I showed him a picture of Kristin Scott Thomas in the Horse Whisperer, and sometimes I had to close my eyes while he was cutting my hair. I opened my eyes and my bangs were gone! 1/2 cm instead of what I wanted long bangs. He told me to wait before saying anything, that it was going to be amazing. He was cutting and talking how great he was, that he liked the suburbs better.... Yeah right, he wouldn't last 5 minutes in DC! I wanted Kirstin Scott Thomas, and ended up with a bad imitation of Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby! The haircut was 250 DOLLARS! I couldn't believe it. I went home, and my hair was awful. Longer on one side than the other, it was like a crazy drunk had cut my hair. It took me six months to recover it. I went back to DC, and now am going to IPSA which is great! Avoid Progressions, or avoid Ira, and be sure to ask the cost of a haircut. Even in New York, it's not that expensive. Absolutely outrageous! I wish that sometimes at the Washingtonian magazine they go to see Ira and then we'll see how they will rate him!

you've got to be kidding
by Patricia J.
I got my hair cut by Ira and after I showed him a picture - he assured me he would give me a slightly longer version than the style in the photo. Not only was it shorter - but not even a version of the hairstyle I had chosen. He took little time (and little accuracy) with his razor cut. Then when I went to pay the bill I was speechless..$150!! No I did not get color - just a haircut and a lousy one at that. One side is obviously longer than the other. Needless to say I'm going elsewhere to get it fixed next week.
I didn't even want to give a one star rating.

By Far THE BEST Salon Experience!
by Amy F.
After putting off cutting my hair (for months) because of my lack of trust for stylists I went to Progressions to see Pam per my sister's recommendation. She has been going to Pam for years and her hair always looks fabulous so I decided to give her a try. My hair was long (one length) with bangs that had been growing out. I told Pam I wanted to keep the length but add some sort of layers to give my hair shape. I also expressed that I would love to not have to use the flat iron on my hair because I had been experiencing some breakage. Pam performed her majic and I left with lots of long layers and a nice bouncy (natural) flip to the ends of my hair. I commented I would never be able to duplicate it at home but with the help of the amazing cut and the Kerastase product line my hair feels and looks great and it naturally flips when I blow dry it due to the cut. I have never experienced a stylist as talented as Pam. The haircut was $84 and worth every penny. I would have paid $250 for the miracle Pam performed on my hair.

ira is king
by toni k.
ira was perfect , he gently held my hand as he sensed my apprehension about having my world-class hair being cut by someone outside of hollywood . i will go back til the day i pass away, ( i hope he will even prepare me in casket) the price was moderate and was impressed by the staff (in a good way ) i look forward to doing buisness w/ them again, i've maintained this cut for 7 months with 1 trip to trim my bangs .

Great Customer Service
by Christine R.
At my first appointment in March I got a mediocre cut and was not happy. A few days later the salon called me and asked how my hair was (as a courtesy!!!). I told them I was unhappy and they rescheduled me, at my convenience, with a new stylist - FOR FREE! She (Jennifer) re-cut my hair and did a WONDERFUL job. I recently went back to Jennifer and received another great haircut. She really listens and seems to know exactly what I want her to do with my hair. I think the higher prices are worth it considering the fantastic customer service I have received. They also trim bangs for free and have sent me a coupon. How can you go wrong if they will correct their cuts for free?!

One of the worst experiences in my life!
by Anonymous
I read a review on the Washingtonian magazine about Ira, the owner of Progressions. I was lazy and did not want to go to Georgetown, and I went there. Big mistake! It was for a short haircut, and Ira, besides the fact that he was totally in love with himself, did the worst haircut I have never had. Both sides were not symetric, and I had hair of every length. I had to wait 3 weeks before being able to do something, and this time went to Georgetown.
Incredibly overpriced ($ 300.00 for a haircut). Even if he were in NY, it would be expensive! And absolutely no talent, nothing. Maybe people believes him because he doesn't stop saying how incredible he is, I don't know. Or maybe he just doesn't know to cut short hair, but I will never go back there. I was so furious, I even e-mailed the Washingtonian magazine to ask them to go get a haircut there before recommending it!

Progressions came very highly recommended to me by a good friend of mine. I gave it a try and it is definitely worth checking out, however, you need to be aware that the prices are a bit high. If you are willing to pay for it though, the service really can't be beat. The staff is very courteous and offerred to get me an appointment right away. They really take care of you here. You get pampered. Well worth the price.

This is a great full-service professional salon - the best in the area! I have gotten my hair cut here numerous times and have been very happy with the results each time. The staff is courteous and helpful - I definitely trust their style opinions. Trendy interior and convenient parking. Prices are a little on the expensive side, but they are what you would expect from an upscale salon.
PROS: Talented staff, Convenient location
CONS: Price

I went to Progressions salon because they were highly recommended by friends. The staff who works there is wonderful. They make you feel very comfortable. Michelle, who works there, gave me a great layered cut and color. The color didn't come out exactly as I wanted but the technique used made it look great and professional looking. Highly recommended!

I've been going to Ira since I read about him in the Washingtonian in 1998. I always walk out of the salon feeling like a million bucks and looking great! I have medium length curly hair, and Ira manages to stay innovative when I want something different and classic (like for my wedding) when the time is right. He is simply the best. Friends and family of mine go to others in the salon for both cuts and colors and always walk out with a great look.
Pros: Style!, Innovation, Family-friendly
