      I do all my own work. Always have. I recently did an engine and tranny swap in my 94 accord. While doing the swap I had my ball joints and wheel bearings replaced. Pep boys of frederick, MD pressed in my new wheel bearings for me. I took my car to another shop for tires and alignment and was informed by the tech that my wheel bearings were falling out. They told me it was a result of not being pressed in all the way. I took the car to pep boys and told them they should fix it since they screwed it up and I got a call the next day saying it was my fault cuz I didn't tighten the axle nut all the way. I laughed because I torque them down to spec. Of all the work I put into this car I wouldn't ignore something major like that. Then they want to charge me almost $500 to fix it. I called corporatewith my complaint and they said it will take 48hrs to get back to me. Don't trust these crooks with any part of your vehicle!

      I took my car in for brakes and a 60,000 service mile this past feb. I came back a few hours later to pick up my car and the mechanic told me cars dont need 60,000 service mile maintenance! They did not do the work and my car shakes when i press the brakes now. The front passenger side of my car was hit by a snow plow in their service parking lot, where THEY parked it and they refuse to pay for the damages. They said they arent responsible for any damages to my vehicle on their property! The shop manager not only was rude to me but tried to say i hit a pole when the damage was not there before i brought it in and it clearly matches the bucket of the snow plow and video footage showed the plow driving very close to my car on the side of the damage repeatedly. The shop manager even defended the plow company to my insurance and the plow company claimed they werent even there when they are clearly on camera. The store manager agreed with me and promised to try and help me get the damages paid for but he never called or returned my follow up calls. BAD BAD BAD experience! DONT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR VEHICLE!!! I took it somewhere else and had to do my 60,000 service mile and fix my brakes.

      ok i took my 93 Chevy cavalier to get a front end aliment. i got bumped in a parking lot and now it pulls to the right. i droped it off a 3:30 i went back at 7:00 that night to see what was up. i spent 10 min standing in front of the guy at the counter there where no other customers insight. he was calling people and answering the phone after the 10mins went by i stopped him before he could dial another number and asked him what was going on with my car and why it was on a lift not by the alignment machine. it took him another 5 min, to find the paper work. he told me the the right front wheel was locked up. not spinning thats why it pulled to the right. he handed me an estimate for saying i need a new brake caliper and a new brake line. it also had 3 different labor warranty on the estimate. at this point i asked if they even performed the work i took it there for. they said no.... then a mechanic came out and told me i need a new brake line because it was collapsing from being old.i asked him why i need a new caliper than he said because they are connected. .. i asked for my car back and left.
      ok first the wheel was not locked up it it was i could not have drove the vehicle there.
      seconed you buy the brake line separate from the caliper. you dont need to replace a caliper if your brake line goes bad. i took the car to a another shop that specializes in brakes and asked them if there was anything wrong with the front especially the right side i got some weird looks but they inspected it and said everything "looked good". i asked if the wheel was locked up and they laught at me saying the car could not get out of its own way much less drive with a locked up wheel.
      ok so pep boys tried to bs me and sell me over 200 in stuff that i did not need plus they did not do the work i took it there for in the first place.

      Most blatant scam in my opinion ever. I had tires installed and manager said visual inspection revealed metal fatigue in front rotors. I said what's that and he said he would shoe me. Walked back to car on lift and he pointd to lines on rotors. He said the metal had cracks. I played dumb and asked hoe much to repair. He said under $1000. I asked if it could be put off and he said to unsafe to drive, needs immediate repair. After listening to BS i walked up to lift and wiped off one of the cracks with my finger. I don't mean cleaned, i meaned wiped off as in it was just a line of road dust which the brake pad had created. He just looked at me and walked off. I should have been offended that he thought i was such a rube but i knew i would tell everyone i could think of about this place. Just confirms that big name places are no protection from this kind of behavior. My opinion, NEVER EVER EVER EVER HAVE REPAIRS DONE THERE. THE ONLY REASON THEY GET ONE STAR IS THIS REVIEW STATES THEY MUST GET AT LEAST ONE STAR. TO BAD NO WAY TO RATE LOWER

      I took my car to Pep Boys because my daughter did make a couple of phone calls and according to her that was the cheapest place for brakes ( I found later that is was very expensive). They give me an estimate of $170 for the front and $160 for the rear brakes. My bill was almost $600. They charge me $4.95 for brake oil and almost $100 for changing it. Shop fees, refuse fees, store fees, and more fees. I will write again tomorrow because we are having problems with the brakes the mechanic says that is nothing wrong with the brakes, we asked him did you road test the car and they said no, they only did a visual inspection. I told them that we pay a lot of money for those brakes and they need to fixed. They told me that I have to wait another day because the "master mechanic" is not there on weekends. This is the 5th day, maybe they will repair my car by tomorrow. I will keep you posted.

      Guy name Gene E Kauffman has no idea what customer service is about . I wont use Pep boys never ever again. The previous guy that was working there was excellent , unfortunately he left and was replaced for this rude man. He should be working some where else.

      A guy named Chris answered the phone. I told him that i needed a water pump ordered for my car. He seemed kind of slow when i was talking to him, and i was kind of hesitant in ordering the part through him. Anyway he told me he was going to order the part for me on Friday and i would be able to pick it up on Monday at 2pm in the afternoon. Here it is Monday, i talked to 3 different people in the parts department, Chris had told me that the part was not in yet and he has my phone # and he would call me back. Two hrs later i called them and talked to two other salesmen and they told me the part had been shipped , but has been misplaced.(is that my problem; get somebody to watch over these idiots working there and i might have gotten my part on time.)

      My car went in for a simple alignment and rim installation. Due to sloppy mechanic work, they broke 2 studs removing lugs 5 days later picked up car and none of the work was done but they charged me. Returned to get the work done, took hours to complete and then weights to the rim fell off in my drive way. On top of that, they had the nerve to charge me 9.99 to check brakes in plain view. The worst experience ever!! Poor sales associate, Joe tried to redeem the situation but could never get it right through no fault of his own- just plain lazy mechanics.

Many of their products are available at different quality levels, and I have always found quality to be commensurate with price. I can cut corners with a cheap part, or pay a little more and get a better part.

      They are also been very generous with their return policy. I have frequently bought the wrong part, and never had a problem returning it, even if I don't get back to the store right away.

      The staff is always courteous and helpful. This is one of my favorite stores.

      I took my car in for a Tune-up and Pep boys came back with a list of items (worth over 1.5k dollars) that MUST be done on the vehicle, which I was very suspicious since we haven't had any problems with our vehicle, so I let him do the tune up and took it to another mechanic in Walkersville (Brownies Auto) to get a second opinion, without telling him what pep boys told me, he stated there was absolutely nothing wrong on the car that needed maintenance, then I asked him about the rotors and brakes that pep boys told me needed to be done and he said you got at least another 20k miles til that need replaced, so I called the manager and complained about that, and he basically said "oh well it happens". Well 6 months later I had trouble starting my car, and took it to brownies auto and he called me with the result and told me I needed a tune-up, and I said that funny I got that done 6 months ago @ peps boys, and he said half have new spark plugs and the other half of the engine had original manufacture spark plugs, so I asked him to give me the original once so I can go back to Pep boys and complain. I complained to Pep boys manager and of course he never apologized and just refunded me , and he had "oh well mentality", if we get enough people complaining about Pep Boys in Frederick MD, we can get a class action lawsuit !

      I went to the Frederick, MD Pep Boys because of an advertised ad about a hitch sale and installation special. They clearly had the part I needed for my Jeep Liberty at 129.00 listed on the computer (and sale ad) but when they ordered the part it was showing 275.00. They told me that they did not have the part in stock so I would have to pay the 275 because the part had to come from the manufacturer. The ad was not even 24 hours old and they refused to give me any kind of "rain check". The manager walked away from me when I was calmly trying to understand the reasoning in this and the assistant manager had no clue and kept repeating "the ad says "as low as". At the time I had my jeep in the service department awaiting about 550.00 plus of of brake work but I was so mad about the false advertisement and horrible customer service I pulled my Jeep and got the hell out of there. I went to the Germantown store next about t he brake work but the 2 people ahead of me were waiting for their cars that were in for a second time due to Pep Boys service mistakes and the guy behind me said he was there as well for a service mistake and that was on an oil change!! Like I was going to trust them with my brakes after that. I ended up at Midas. BEWARE!!
