For dining out purposes, Gertrudes really has it all. While a little expensive on the average night, the food is delicious and careful attention should be given to the offered specials for the night. I went with my fiance there for dinner, and both of us left utterly satisfied.
What truly makes this restaurant however is the atmosphere that it provides. While located in the middle of a city, it is very close to the Johns Hopkins Campus which gives it a different feel, almost an escape. The proximity to the campus also makes it a wonderful and convenient location for students who want a nice dinner together as it is within walking distance.
The eating area itself is very beautiful, and takes on a fairly romantic feel, spoiled though by the lack of privacy and the loud guests that come also seem to frequent the place. Perhaps most appealing is the entire art museum that is attached with the eating area. Rather than just a dinner out, Gertrudes can easily become a whole night out together of exploring the halls of an art museum and a wonderful dinner.

Gertrudes is a great place to take family and friends who may be visiting, as it is attached to the BMA. The sculpture garden outside the restuarant is beautiful and when the weather is nice, you can dine outside for a great view. They have weeknight specials once a week where entrees are half-priced, which is a great time to try this nice restaurant on a budget!

Good restaurant for a special occasion. A bit pricey for what you get, but the service was great and the restaurant itself is quite pretty. The food was excellent and presented beautifully.

I went here with some friends for their Tuesday night special were they have $10 and $12 entres from the regular dinner menu.
The place was very nice and the decor was perfect.
I started with the Cream of Crab Soup with lump crab and scented with sherry (normally $6 for a cup but Tuesdays it $4). I had the Portobella Crab Imperial-grilled marinated portobella mushroom piled high with crab imperial and served with savory rice (the rice needed more flavor) and vegetables (normally $24 but Tuesday it $12. For dessert we split the Bread Pudding which was the BEST I have ever had!
The other people tried:
The crabcake platter for $18 (they have a special platter for $12 on Tuesdays)
A Berry Good Salad $10- field greens, fresh berries, goat cheese, toasted pistachios & a berry vinaigrette
Turkey Meatloaf Platter (normally 16 but it was 10)-fresh ground turkey with red peppers, garlic & parmesan cheese, served with a roasted tomato sauce, mashed potatoes and sauteed veggies
Dinner was great and the outdoor seating was perfect looking. I really suggest making reservation (they are on opentable.com)
I will be going back! I suggest everyone to try it!
