First of all, our air conditioner inside coil condensate pan began to leak down through the blower motor which is shared by the oil furnace and eventually on the basement floor. I didn't know Griffith did air conditioner work and a technician came out the next morning after calling them. It was in May of 2010 and glad we caught it before really hot weather set in. The repairman said buying just the condensate pan would be difficult since the unit was almost 11 years old and said I should have a complete air conditioner install. He also said I would be entitled to a tax break since new air conditioners are very efficient. A salesman from Griffith came out the next day and I wound up buying a Trane XR15. He also explained how II could get a tax break amounting to 30 per cent of the total cost which was $4224. That would give me about a $250 return. 2 Men came out 3 days later and had the outside unit installed along with the inside condensor, condensate plumbing and new freon lines. The unit works very well but my gripe is, I was recently told by Griffith that to receive the tax credit, it would have required installation of a new furnace also which works very well and is very efficient. I hate to be swindled like that and am changing my oil supplier to BP Carroll who also does plumbing and other things which we will surely need in a few years. During the time with Griffith, I never could figure out their billing statements which many times would not show payments I would make and then would have to call them. I went ahead and paid off the air conditioner so that I can have a clean "cancel of service". I placed a lock on the oil tank fill pipe since I had read they will make a delivery even though people gave notice and then would have to pay for the topping off.

Our air conditioning stopped working at of course the height of summer. My In-Laws recommended Griffith as they have a contract with the company. I called and they were able to come out quickly. Turns out some of the tubing in our attic had split open and caused a back up that burnt out our system. They were able to get the parts and service it within the next 2 days. They also let us know that it should still be under warranty and did all the legwork so that all parts were covered and all we owned was for the service.

The man that came to do the repairs was friendly and I felt comfortable with him working on the system in and out of the house.

We're on an automatic oil delivery plan with Griffith and have never run out of oil.

We pay approximately $150 for a two-year contract with them. For that, they tune up our furnace every Fall and put us at the top of the list in the case of an emergency. Every two years, when the contract is due for renewal, they send us 5 or 6 $20 oil vouchers to submit with our fuel payments. This year, they did not send the vouchers; and when I called them, they claimed never to send them out when people are set to automatically renew. I received 5 in the mail the next day.

Did you know that you should turn off your furnace in the summer? Otherwise, it costs approximately $60 in oil just to keep the pilot light burning during the furnace's unused period (at least in our case). Griffith finally informed us of this fact after we called to complain last Fall that our first fill-up of the season couldn't be right. We'd had the tank topped off in mid Spring and had never turned the furnace on between fill-ups.

In addition to never having run out of fuel (a big plus for me), the other reason I rate Griffith so highly is because they host a customer-appreciation day at Hershey Park one Saturday in April every year, before the park is officially open. All customers can purchase up to 40 deeply discounted tickets ($17 each, I think).

PROS: Reliable, knowledgeable furnace techs; Hershey Park tickets.
CONS: They come across as self serving and don't volunteer to help you save $.
