I so wanted to like Cafe Zen but unfortunately was served spoiled pork there a few weeks ago. Also, the vegetable dumplings are colored playdough green and simply filled with either canned or thawed out frozen french cut green beans. Ick.

I love Cafe Zen! It has a very relaxed atmosphere, great menu, and fabulous food. The food is not greasy like some Chinese food can be. I recommend the garlic green beans. Yum! It is a great place to eat in or take out.

The menu has a huge variety, from sushi to traditional Chinese food to some things a bit different. Its a bit of a trek for me to drive down, but its always well worth it. Get the ants in a tree, and depending on how many people you have in your party, that's how many they bring out. Great appetizer. Prices are great too. Hot tea is some of the best.

I have been in B-More for 13 years now and I think the overall consensus amongst the people I know is that Zen is the best Chinese going. It is a step above take-out food, and we've never been disappointed, although we should say that we usually order take-out due to our inability at this time to go out too often (squirmy kids). A special note -- the Zen Curry (Chicken) is a amazing --- not to be missed, although definitely not diet food! Enjoy!

My partner and I went here on our first night visiting Baltimore and thought the food was fairly good, while not outstanding. The service was good, the food was definitely not the most flavorful Chinese food we've ever had, but it was a good value for the price. I had the Kung Pao beef and some Egg Drop soup and the whole bill for my share was about $10. The portions are generous and the atmosphere friendly and low key. They seem to do a lot of take out business.

Clean, light, flavorful Chinese food. Not heavy or greasy like many local Chinese takeout places. This is my favorite place for Chinese when I feel like going out as opposed to grabbing some takeout. The place is bustling with a modern, hip (but not intimidating) vibe. They have booths and tables that are fun and not too formal. The walls are covered in modern murals. But wait, the food, you did go there to eat after all. I have loved everything I have ever ordered on the menu because it is all prepared light on the oil but heavy on the flavor! My absolute favorites are the shrimp wonton soup - different than your regular wonton - the broth is light, non-greasy, and kind of peppery. The wonton is delicate and filled with tiny shrimp. And the soup is threaded with just wilted baby spinach. It is fantastic and I always start my meal with a big bowl this soup. Sometimes I get two big bowls of the soup and nothing else. They do offer takeout but we prefer to eat there. The flavors are often so subtle they are best enjoyed right when served.

I have eaten here a dozen times. It is a fun place to eat, with consistently good food, fresh vegetables, hand made dumplings and the freshest Chinese food you will ever find. Not your typical Chinese restaurant decor- more a west coast look. A great variety on the menu, even some sushi. Everything is well prepared with big portions and a superb value. They seem to have a large regular following of locals who bring their own wine. The Senator movie theater is one half (1/2) a block away, not 2 blocks. This is a real winner.

Cafe Zen is like a very cute girl who's absolutely boring to talk to. The food is incredibly bland pseudo-Chinese food. While it's moderately priced, similar dishes cooked authentically run much cheaper. If you just want a comfortable place to hand out, fine. If you want to eat good food especially Chinese food, go elsewhere.

No red lanterns and gold dragons here. cafe Zen's walls are Creamsicle-colored and stenciled in black with dictionary definitions and chopstick diagrams. But that's not all that's unusual. This Chinese cafe offers simple, fresh, home-style…
