I finally decided to go ahead and have my air ducts in my home cleaned when I received a solicitation call from Better Home Services about their $54.95 special, which included all supply vents and one return. Each additional return was approximately $39. I knew that my cost would be more because I have a large home with two units, but I wanted to have an idea of exactly how much more it might be. Unfortunately, the representative on the phone wasn't able to provide me a breakdown of the different costs that I may incur, although I did find her to be pleasant and professional. I had to wait for the technician to find out the cost. The technician arrived on schedule and assessed my home. He wrote up an estimated that was more than 20 times the cost of the special. I'm not naive; I understand these specials get them in the door and then you're hit with how much it really costs. As I mentioned, I have two units (turned out to be $54.95 X 2 and should've included two returns in the price). I have a total of four returns (two should've been included in the 54.95 X 2; I noticed later that only one was; I paid for three at $40 each), two mains (one for each unit at $100 each), and two blower housings ($100 each), an electrostatic filter (optional at $300), and $250 to sanitize the systems for germs, micro-bacteria, and dust mite feces. I was offered an additional 10% off for same day service. I haggled some and decided to have the service done. The technician was very professional and answered all my questions. I observed the process and was totally disappointed--not in the customer service but in the process that the company uses. I expected something more sophisticated for the process. All they did was remove vent covers and vacuum the different areas. I could've done that for what they charged. Perhaps I'm naive on this part; I thought they would have some fancy equipment to cover the vents and other critical areas and really suction or blow the dust throughout the entire system into some fancy piece of equipment. Not so. If all companies that offer this service use the same process, it is A WASTE OF MONEY. I will never have this service done again and expressed this to the technician. After the technician completed the service, I told him that I changed my mind about the electrostatic filter. He didn't have one that I could see. Turns out that I only needed one (at $150; the $300 was for two). Best Home Services actually orders the filter from another company. While the technician was here, I went online to do some research; I told him I can order directly from the company myself if they sell directly to consumers and avoid Best Home Services markup. Online filters were way below $150; don't think I saw one that was $100. I believe that if I had not changed my mind, the technician would've left the price at $300 just like he neglected to include two returns in the special price offer since I was paying for two systems. I haggled a little more and got the price down and expect to receive the filter in about two weeks per the work order contract. The sanitizer was a complete waste of money. The helper walked around with a container of solution and sprayer and sprayed into the vents and an area of the heating units. I honestly believe I could've done this service myself (over a weekend). I plan to investigate if other companies use this same process for cleaning air duct systems. One other note about this process. Because some vents are stuck to the ceiling/wall, the technician had to use a carpet knife to cut around the area, which messes up your paint job. I have to go and do touch up work now!!! All said, I learned that this is something I can do myself.

The reviews on this company barely scrape the surface about how bad this company is. They dont deserve any stars. Their ads for 3 rooms at $30 is a joke. They got to my house and quoted me over $240, then did me a "favor" and brought the price down to $200. Well I didnt move all my furniture for nothing...so we agreed. Agreed to have our carpet deep scrubbed and our couch cleaned. Cleaned is an overstatement. The tech used a 1980's circa steam cleaner...he didnt deep clean....he sprayed "expensive" chemicals on the couch... when all was said and done...he dumped the lint and debris on our front lawn, only cleaned half the sofa, and didnt clean a 3" area along every wall of two of the rooms. A call to the office didnt help. they were rude. The manager insulted me, but after emailing him photos, promised me a $40 refund. Its been two months, still waiting on that refund! Ill stop holding my breath! BBB has been contacted as well...Stay far far away from this company....far far away...

I am a dissatisfied customer, and so dissatisfied, I not only wrote this review, I filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and with the Maryland State Attorney General's office. I think I'll write a review on RipoffReport.com as well, and any other sites I come across. For those of you really serious about reporting the awful practices of this company, follow it all the way through!!! Don't just fill out a review form, do something about it! They need to be put out of business, and that can't be done if you just write a review. Let's see...first words of advice...BUYER BEWARE. Do NOT get lured into the prices from the coupons received in the mailers. The technician is trained to be smooth and crafty when working up your estimate once in your home. C'mon Kenny, are you really going to try to deny that? Especially if you are in real need of this type of service. Do NOT disclose any personal information about your life experiences...it will be used against you. How recent was my encounter? First date of service...4/9/13 and second date of service 4/11/13. Recent enough for you? Complaints about the air duct cleaning/sanitizing service I paid for? Not at first, but how can I sing praises about what you've done after the way I was treated afterwards? DO NOT be lured into the "so-called" lifetime service contracts. You do NOT get this confirmed with the company office, nor will you receive anything in writing of a real contract. Oh, main thing that turned me off to this company...lack of professionalism by office employees who answer the phone. Shall I name a few? Hi Kelly...Hi Dan...and hi to the others who attempted to insult my intelligence. All because I tried to confirm what I purchased. Can't handle problems? Then you need to find another line of work!!! When I finally told them no, they got "pissed off". When I called the office to complain, Duane Mullany explained to me that "they have to write up an estimate that covers everything they seen that they believe needs to be cleaned" as a matter of policy. He wasn't event remotely apologetic, he was just as bad when it came to the hard sell. THIS IS NOT A GOOD GROUP. If you have used them and didn't like the service, I invite you to file a complaint with the State of Maryland at http://www.oag.state.md.us/Consumer/complaint.htm. If you don't, then you will help them keep up the bad service. Make them accountable to the client.

This company should have the option of NEGATIVE stars. I was employed through this place for over a year and can attest to their total unprofessionalism and disrespect to customers and employees alike.
First, the owner, Frank Goodrich- is a sexist and believes a female has no place other than as a secretary. Unfourtunately, he does believe on re-hiring previously FIRED employees REPEATEDLY. The current "store manager" has been fired multiple times for SERIOUS offenses, only to return in a few months. Why? Because his step father is the President of the company. And he is not the only one.
The secretaries do most of the work in the office for a mere $7.25 per hour. They are they definition of overworked and underpaid. When they begin to request raises, they are fired and replaced with the next willing person. The turn over rate in the office is extremely high, I worked with over 40 different people in that year. (Wonder why?)
Technicians are provided no real training, other than the 3 days they spend showing them how to write up an extremely high and over priced estimate. They are "sub contractors" and work off of only commission. They rent equipment and purchase chemicals through the company at twice the cost. They are not even provided gas money compensation though they may drive from anywhere as far as Virgina up to Delaware in one day. Most are labeled as "licensed and bonded " though they are NOT. When a customer would only like a basic, coupon cleaning they are told by management to rush through so they may try their hand at scamming the next customer.
I was constantly told to lie to customers by management,like the excuse of a family emergency, car crash, etc. to customers waiting for technicians to arrive.
Best Homes Services is one giant get rich scheme for the owner and president alone. They could care less about integrity, honesty and customer service. They are knowingly taking advantage of both hardworking employees and customers to put money in their own pocket. A chimpanzee could run a better business. Do yourself a favor, and NEVER even CONSIDER employment or services from these low life idiots.
P.S. I also know for a fact that 90% of good reviews on this site were either, A, produced by offering customers $10 off their services to write a good review. Or B, written by Frank Goodrich & other management.

they actually get a zero from me. I gave up 3 hours today waiting for tech. No tech and no call from company. When I called they said they can't reach tech and don't know where he is. Do not book services from this company.

This company was the worse company that I have ever dealt with. The service that they provided was horrible. They were suppose to have deodorized the carpet removing pet odor and my home smelled worse when they left. The tech had pulled the smell to the surface and it made the carpet smell worse then before. And I paid extra for the service, And on top of everything, the technician stole my Ipad from my home with my sister in the house with him. I called the company to let them know that I had proof by tracking my Ipad and they basically called me a liar, and stated that the technician stated that he did not take it and they believed him. Do not use this company they provide HORRIBLE service!!

I used Best Home Servives om May 22, 2012. I received horrible, and I repeat horrible service. Do yourself a favor and do not use this company. The technician spent only abour 15 minutes cleaning my Sofa and Loveseat. I have this done about every six months and have never seen anyone do it so fast. Not only did he do a poor rush job but my couch and wood floors were soakin wet. I have never experienced anything like this. I called the and spoke to the owner Wayne Vernon. He was very non chalant. He told me I should have put towels down first. That is what most people do before they come out. I mean are you serious!!!!. He offered to have someone come out to clean it up. I asked him how was he planning to that he replied "with a towel'.

I'm writing this review because I recently responded to an advertisement for carpet cleaners for this company and had a horrible experience with them. To advise future potential customers/employees, their business is very unprofessional and dishonest. I was told to come in at 3 p.m the first day for an interview. They hired me on the spot and I was told I would be training with other contractors starting the next monday at 6:30 a.m. but first I had a weekend of training at the office. The manager basically told the trainees to write up contracts extremely high and try to get the customer to sign to a price much higher than what they were expecting. The facility was full of disgusting rugs and a piss stained couch that smelled. The first room was partitioned off and was where a few female secretaries and the management stayed. The back room was a large room filled with their cleaning equip. and a space for their horrible training classes. After signing the waiver that this was strictly a learning experience and we wouldn't be paid for the training, I went out with an older gentlemen for the ride along. The first thing that really threw me off was his practice to scheme customers in their own home by showing them an old mold test reading indicating their ventilation system had high levels of mold and needed treatment. Pressing one customer that had a sick child that the mold was bad for anyone regardless of health, and she spent over $500 for the air duct treatment. I felt obliged to help him at both locations during the day which we had to drive to. It ended up being 3 hours of driving for 2 jobs. He actually was able to make a good amount of money for one day and 2 jobs. He also showed the customer a full load of dust that was from previous jobs as well in a duct cleaning machine before we left. The next day we came early in the morning again to be told our task was to go to the state department in Baltimore to get our trade license for $25 dollars. The veteran worker at the office asked me if I was from Best Home Services after I told her I was trying to get my Trades license for a carpet cleaning business. It was at this point I realized that this company had a screwed up system of exploiting their workers and then having them over charge random people throughout the metro area, in multiple states. I'm writing this review because I recently responded to an advertisement for carpet cleaners for this company and had a horrible experience with them. To advise future potential customers/employees, their business is very unprofessional and dishonest. I was told to come in at 3 p.m the first day for an interview. They hired me on the spot and I was told I would be training with other contractors starting the next monday at 6:30 a.m. but first I had a weekend of training at the office. The manager basically told the trainees to write up contracts extremely high and try to get the customer to sign to a price much higher than what they were expecting. The facility was full of disgusting rugs and a piss stained couch that smelled. The first room was partitioned off and was where a few female secretaries and the management stayed. The back room was a large room filled with their cleaning equip. and a space for their horrible training classes. After signing the waiver that this was strictly a learning experience and we wouldn't be paid for the training, I went out with an older gentlemen for the ride along. The first thing that really threw me off was his practice to scheme customers in their own home by showing them an old mold test reading indicating their ventilation system had high levels of mold and needed treatment. Pressing one customer that had a sick child that the mold was bad for anyone regardless of health, and she spent over $500 for the air duct treatment. I felt obliged to help him at both locations during the day which we had to drive to. It ended up being 3 hours of driving for 2 jobs. He actually was able to make a good amount of money for one day and 2 jobs. He also showed the customer a full load of dust that was from previous jobs as well in a duct cleaning machine before we left. The next day we came early in the morning again to be told our task was to go to the state department in Baltimore to get our trade license for $25 dollars. The veteran worker at the office asked me if I was from Best Home Services after I told her I was trying to get my Trades license for a carpet cleaning business. It was at this point I realized that this company had a screwed up system of exploiting their workers and then having them over charge random people throughout the metro area, in multiple states. I have used Best Home Services to clean my beige rugs and steps for years. They always do a superior job in getting out the high traffice stains especially on my 4 flights of steps. It is very easy to get an appointment and if you want an appointment on the same day you call, they will offer you a 10% discount. Another great advantage is the warranty plan that they offer to customers. By signing on to the warranty plan, I receive multiple discounts and get my rugs deep scrubbed,deodorized and tefloned for one low price. Another great advantage to using Best Home Services is that you can request the same contractors to return the next time you want your rugs cleaned. My last rug cleaning was done by Rob and Mike and they were wonderful.. They arrived on time, were very professional, and cleaned my steps very well. I hope to have them return when I get my rugs cleaned for the holidays.

Brenton came twenty minutes earlier, very polite. it took us. ten minutes to work around the house. after a few phone call with his/her boss the price was given to me. with his female partner, they were hands on right away. after thirty minutes the job was done. the job was perfect and my carpet looks new again.

Brenton arrived on time and was very professional. He did a great job on my carpets. I was disappointed that my price quote over the phone was substantially different from the one I received in person. My carpets were not very dirty and I did not appreciate the bait and switch tactic.

One star is over rating this company. I used this company to steam clean all of the rooms in my apartment. The tech created an estimate which was doubled the quote I received over the phone. He made the correction. I made the mistake of paying prior to them finishing the job. When he finished it was if I never had my carpets cleaned. In my bedroom they only attempted to clean the front area of my bed; the two sides of my bed area were not cleaned. In my dining room they cleaned around the table. When you pull my dining room chairs out you will see the dirt under the table that was there prior to them coming out. They did the same thing in my living room area. They cleaned only the open space and left the areas around my tables untouched. When I called to speak to a manager they offered to come back and clean the carpets again if I used another service that would cost me $140.00. Are you serious? He did not even address the poor service his tech provided. The only thing he wanted to do was schedule someone to come out to charge me more money. Oh don't let me forget the tech said he used a deodorizer which actually smelled like vinegar. My entire home smelled awful when he left. I normally do my homework on companies but I did not this time. If you check the BBB you will see tons of complaints with this company. Run from this company

He carried a old mold stick thats bright purple indicating the highest level of mold their is and use the same stick on everyones house vents! Which the boss Wayne knows about because I heard them laughing about it. Wayne did not say this was OK but also did not condemn it like I said he just laughed after hearing about it. Long story short about my 2 days training the gentleman was lying to everyone about mold and charging/writting a ticket for outrageous prices wether they were accepted or not. Day 3 they trained me on how to write up a ticket telling me look almost everyone has a coupon it doesn't matter you still recommend everything no matter what! So I spent 4 hours in the office just showing them i can write an estimate for a 3 room clean to be $300+ with all the add ons (chemicals and deep scrub brush). They said it does not matter how clean there carpets are this is how you get paid considering its a commission only job where you are a subcontractor. Base pay starts at 30%, up to $150 = 32% and you max out at 42% at anything over $500. If the customer is not happy (they never are) you are supposed to call the office and the office will knock down half the price and throw a warranty in. Customers are told they will have the carpets cleaned for free but we are advised to leave out important information that they would still be charged $25 per room or $2 per step for the reapplication of the warranty chemical called teflon. Pure scam (bait & switch) Im telling you and this for the consumer end! Now as an employee I only worked their for 3 days put 700 miles on my truck which I paid for gas because I am a sub which I was cool with at first because I thought all jobs would be in the Bmore area considering they had 3 offices as they advertise on craigslist. So we schedule them for Saturday between the times of 1-4 pm to clean our carpets after we moved into our new place, they were cleaning the empty apartment at our old place. My husband and my little 8 month old went to the apartment and waited while I got my nails done. Then at 3 p.m. we were told they had to move us to 6-7pm...Okay great...My husband picked me up and we went back to the apartment because we could no go to our new place since it is over 30 miles away and would be a waste of gas. So we waited. At 4:00p.m. they said they had someone on the way, and for our troubles they would do 10% off, great. Then 4:30 they called and said never mind because we were inconvenient to him since we were not on the way and he would have to freaking turn around to get to us. Wonderful so back to 6-7p.m. We waited, took a walk outside and came back to the empty apartment with our 8 month old and my poor boy was so cranky and tired but couldn't nap because he didn't have a crib or bassinet. We were getting impatient around 6:30 we called and they said 10% off and any other services we needed and they would work as long as it took to get everything out. We are all worn out and stressed because we needed to turn the keys in tonight to our apartment or we would owe a lot of money...7:30 rolled around, no calls, nothing. We called, they are officially closed and now just a call service who has no way of getting a hold of manager or techs. We were beyond upset and stressed out and my poor son was crying and tired, we needed to go. We waited 8:30 out of faith and no calls, nothing. My husband was pissed and left a message for the call service about our situation but no one could talk to us till Monday. I was left crying feeling so stressed out and betrayed. We trusted them, we put our faith in them to be here for us, a professional company. Monday rolls around and not one call...We called them and they said 10%......No calls to apologize nothing, we had to call them! And only 10% off for pushing our times around, telling us we are inconvenient to them, making us wait with no calls at all from techs or even a dispatcher. THIS COMPANY IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST. When we first called we were scheduled an appointment. They never showed between the times they were suppose to. I called them and they told me they could be at my home sometime in the evening 6-8pm on a Friday. I stated to them that this would not work due to I have a newborn that needs to sleep around 7pm. I had someone sit my house for the whole day. The next time I spoke tho them they stated that someone would be ther on Monday in the morning. The so call "Tec" did not show up to the afternoon. When he showed up my wife stated that we had the coupoune which was $89.00, they told us it would be 117.00 on the phone. The "Tec" told my wife it would be $870.00 when he got there. Really ? My house is basically new with low foot traffic. I stated to him once my wife called me that I didnt want any of his add on's . He then stated that it would be a $130 , I agreed to let him do the job. He cleaned a 4000 sq foot home in about 25minutes. Really??? I wass not hiome to observe his work. When I got home my carpet look the same and had an awful odor coming from it. The tec did not clean the rugs at all never touched the corners of anyrooms . My stairs was never touched and he was suppose to do the master bedroom which wasnt done. When I complain to the on duty manager he didnt try to hear anything I was saying which made me irate. Ihe tried to talk over me and then was un professional stating to me "this is why we as a people cant get along " WHAT??? I dont know if he thought we were the same race or what. Then he told me to call the owner the next day I did. He did not care that my rugs were not clean or that his "Tec" skip a whole room. He told me that he would not return my money because the "Tec" did some work. He stated even though his "Tec" miss a room and did not hit the corners of the room, he would refund me some money. STILL WAITING FOR THE REFUND....GOOD LUCK WITH THAT I GUESS. This company is a scam and shouldn't be used. I tried to give a company a try because of a ad n the local paper. That's my fault NEVER AGAIN..

THIS COMPANY IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST. When we first called we were scheduled an appointment. They never showed between the times they were suppose to. I called them and they told me they could be at my home sometime in the evening 6-8pm on a Friday. I stated to them that this would not work due to I have a newborn that needs to sleep around 7pm. I had someone sit my house for the whole day. The next time I spoke tho them they stated that someone would be ther on Monday in the morning. The so call "Tec" did not show up to the afternoon. When he showed up my wife stated that we had the coupoune which was $89.00, they told us it would be 117.00 on the phone. The "Tec" told my wife it would be $870.00 when he got there. Really ? My house is basically new with low foot traffic. I stated to him once my wife called me that I didnt want any of his add on's . He then stated that it would be a $130 , I agreed to let him do the job. He cleaned a 4000 sq foot home in about 25minutes. Really??? I wass not hiome to observe his work. When I got home my carpet look the same and had an awful odor coming from it. The tec did not clean the rugs at all never touched the corners of anyrooms . My stairs was never touched and he was suppose to do the master bedroom which wasnt done. When I complain to the on duty manager he didnt try to hear anything I was saying which made me irate. Ihe tried to talk over me and then was un professional stating to me "this is why we as a people cant get along " WHAT??? I dont know if he thought we were the same race or what. Then he told me to call the owner the next day I did. He did not care that my rugs were not clean or that his "Tec" skip a whole room. This company was outstanding!!! We had them come out to clean our air ducts and he took the time to show us some concerns in regards to our evaporator coil and blower in our furnace. With the resent purchase of an older home, we knew these types of things would arise. We were very pleased with the level of service and the time the technician spent explaining things to us. We would HIGHLY recommend this company to anyone looking for this service. we will use them again.

The guy that came to clean explained they should have had 2 people because of the size of the home. He did not try to rush through our home and spent the majority of the time on a small area in a bedroom that had a big stain. He did a great job and I was very pleased with all aspects of what he did. Honestly I felt like we should have paid him more money because of the great job he did.
