Expensive Coffee: My fiancee and I had seen Blue Moon on the DDD show and thought we would give them a try this morning. We knew the place was small and we would be waiting due to previous reviews. We do not mind waiting for a good thing.

It's a shame that you can live in a neighborhood and support a restaurant for so many years and mistakenly leave your bag for minutes and the staff steal from you before you can blink your eyes.\r

I love the food, the quirkiness and most of all the wait staff! I love the young lady with the tattoos she makes you feel right at home no matter what and is obviously the true backbone of the establishment. The coffee is hot and freely

I've lived in Baltimore for three years and have stumbled across some gems. Blue Moon small and teaming with local charm. Whoever put Cap'n Crunch and French Toast together is a genius. The Crab Benedict is delish with nice chunks of sweet crab meat. Don't let the size of their cinnamon rolls fool you. They are just the right amount of sweet and not dense or doughy. My NY guest and I were greeted with smiles and witty banter. This place is definitely worth the wait.

Tip: If you're eager to try the famous french toast, get a short stack and share with a friend so that you can entertain your mouth with other treats on the menu.

Have lived in Baltimore for a few years now and have stumbled in and out of restaurants for breakfast on many occasions. Blue moon is by far one of the most popular places to eat, and has had me coming back on numerous occasions. Would highly recommend the cinnamon rolls & biscuits to start! Have always left full and happy. Service is awesome- the one waitress known by her tattoos has provided great service every time and runs the entire dining room without skipping a beat. Highly recommend this cafe to anyone & would disregarding the review per hockeyfan4lyfe....this acerbic critic seems unhappy with the blue moon although "frequents the blue moon regularly".....food/service must be great enough to keep one coming back!

I frequent the blue moon regularly but have mixed thoughts about the place. Here are my concerns:
Servers handle money, dirty rags and dishes, and other items, and then touch toast and biscuits without washing their hands. The servers also bring me the wrong food on occasion and then get huffy about it when I ask for what I really ordered. The young people who help the servers with drinks and bringing out food, tend to be rude and often either don't speak english well, or just do not care enough about what they should be doing. The server with the wild things tattoo, often wears skirts so short that when she bends over you get a free show, and often sports a bad attitude towards you and talks on her cell phone or to her friends who have come in to eat. Her boyfriend visits her, and they make out in the dinning room, and are all over each other. I even saw her talking to a guy with dreads and him handing her a ziplock baggie of what i think to be illegal substances. The owner shows up and screams at her staff when customers can here, and often has her dog running wild around the place. The "fresh squeezed" orange juice comes out of a jug, and the crab from a can. The floors are filthy, and they use the same cloth to wipe the tables as they use for spills on the floor. The cook who works day shift on Mondays, often comes out to the dinning room to sit down, when there are plenty of people in the cafe who are awaiting their orders. The red haired girl, who I can't figure out her job, all she does is pour waters, often doesn't listen when you ask for more of your drink or if you can speak with your waitress. Sitting at the contertop you can clearly see into the kitchen, which is not very professional at all. You can watch them microwave all the food before it comes to your table. Isn't the food suppose to be fresh? Why do they put it into the microwave? The server with the tattoos, also ignores you once you have gotten your meal, and she stands in the kitchen doorway conversing with the cooks and noticeably making fun of the customers. She has "codewords" for different ethnicites, and I've over heard her say "The ninjas are here, better start making the french toast, that's all they eat!"
However, even with the long waits, where they let people jump the line all the time, the food is always amazing. It's better on the weekends, when I suppose there are different people cooking it? The food always looks much more presentable, and the Capn French Toast comes with significantly more fruit during those times. I've never had a complain about the food. It's the wait staff that is rude and unprofessional. In fact, when you do see the cooks running through the door to the storage food, they always say excuse me and i'm sorry, while the waitresses just bump into you, spill coffee on you and never even so much as give an apologetic look. It's also incredibly hot in there in the summer, and the wait staff and cooks are often drenched in sweat. I realize they cannot control that, but something should be done, because it's unsanitary to be leaking bodily fluids into my meal.
I think overall the food is great, and with the exception of a few, the staff is rude and unfriendly.

From Maine we travel back to our home town of Baltimore about twice a year and have made the Blue Moon Cafe a must visit every time. The last time was Memorial Day 2010 weekend and I chose a crab meat tomato dish that was one of the best things I ever ate. The dish had a base of Blue Moon's crispy hash browns then a mixture of a few tomato chunks and lots of lump crab meat top with two fried eggs and covered in hollandaise sauce with a dusting of crab seasoning. I am not sure if this dish is on the menu due to the server recommending it I never open the menu. There was a little wait to get a table but we never felt rushed once we were seated. Now that we have been back in Maine I keep thinking of trying to replicate the dish in my own kitchen but I am hesitant for I don't want to taint my memories of that awesome dish.

So the hubby accompanies me on a business trip to Baltimore and does the tourist thing while I'm at work. Well day 2 he starts bragging about the breakfast spot he found. Captain Crunch French toast and perfect eggs. As a guy who was in the food service industry for 10+ years, it takes a lot to make him gush.
He was right on the mark. The French toast is made with bakery fresh bread and pure vanilla. I had a dish which consisted of farm fresh eggs, sun ripened tomatoes. hash browns made with grated seasoned potatoes(not the frozen out of the bag variety) and a ridiculously generous helping of Maryland crab.
We waited a bit for the food to come out, but passed the time ogling everyone else's plate and chatting with the manager. You do have to wait for fresh food to be cooked. But man, is it worth it!

If you watch the Food Network's Diner's, Dives and Drive-in's, then you may have seen this restaurant on an episode. Featured on the show was Captain Crunch french toast with fresh fruit. NO syrup is needed!!!

The waitress recommended a dish with hashbrowns on bottom, with eggs of choice, cheese, LUMPS of fresh crab meat and hollandaise sauce. It was AMAZING! I opted out of the hollandaise sauce and mine was still delicious. My boyfriend and I shared a short stack of their famous captain crunch french toast and it was ideal. We came hungry for good food and we left VERY satisified.

My boyfriend loved it SO much he went back with a friend 4 days later and ordered new dishes that he was equally thrilled about.

I recommend to everyone! :)

Extensive breakfast menu with fresh food and interesting combinations. For a group, get an order of the Captain Crunch FrenchToast and put it in the middle of the table. Hash brown stacks (crab stack is awesome), multiple versions of eggs benedict and mexican varieties are terrific. Juice is fresh and coffee is bold. Great experience with the staff in the cozy confines of the restaurant. Don't wait in line - come by 830am. Great experience and wonderful reflection of Fells Point at the Blue Moon Cafe. We are fans!

Blue Moon is always a treat when my family heads to the Baltimore area. We make sure that at least one meal is dedicated to the delicious cinnamon buns, cap'n crunch french toast, and never-ending coffee served quickly and with a personable smile.

Some say the wait is a hassle. I say that when something is this incredible, it's worth any second of wait - especially when the surrounding neighborhood is beautiful and the harbor is in the neighborhood.

My friend and I stopped by this little breakfast restaurant at noon on a Saturday..we had an hour wait. We ordered their famous Captain Crunch French Toast - absolutely amazingly delicious - not too sweet - just oh-so-good. We also ordered an egg dish that included sausage, homefries and a great spicy sauce (can't rememer the name of the dish) which was also great. Gina, our server, gave us their last cinnamon bun to take with us....we ate it in the airport....it was huge and delicious. I am from Buffalo, NY......when I go back to Baltimore, I will go back for more! Wonderful Food!!

If you do, and you live in or are headed to Baltimore, make a point to have breakfast/brunch at Blue Moon Cafe. I ordered/devoured the Huevos Rancheros. Two made-to-your-liking eggs, on corn tortillas with fantastic chorizo, accompanied by a really terrific spicy green chile sauce. My girlfriend ordered the Cap'n Crunch french toast and novelty aside, the Cap'n Crunch actually provides an excellent compliment to the french toast. I'm not a big fan of the Cap'n, but I liked the flavor combination quite a bit. The sausage, though, was where it was truly at. Really delicious, just the right amount of spice, high quality meat (oxymoron as that may be for sausage).

Now, everyone mentions the wait and the service. If you plan on bringing your sense of entitlement here, perhaps you should go find yourself a table at the nearest Panera Bread. Yes, you will have to wait for a table. No, if you come in a half hour after their posted closing time, you are likely not going to be seated. This is how it works. It's a ten table cafe. If you have to wait an hour, guess what? You have to wait. It's worth the wait. The food is delicious. The staff is great if you have a sense of humor and don't expect to be treated like the king/queen that you are not. Long story long, if you enjoy good food served by good folks in cozy quarters, there's a table for you here. And if you have to wait for that table, so be it. Trust me, it'll be worth the wait.

My wife, daughter (10 years old) and I went to the Blue Moon Cafe on Saturday, May 15th, 2010 around 7AM. The Blue Moon is located in Fells Point on Aliceanna Street. When we arrived, we were fortunate there was no wait. This was my family's first time at the cafe. I had been there once before with a work colleague.

We ordered the Captain Crunch encrusted french toast (delicious), the special of the day, cheese cake french toast (ambrosia) and the crab and cheese eggs benedict (unbelievably flavorful....great Baltimore dish).

The staff was very friendly, down to earth. The quality of the food was second to none. You can tell a lot of love and creativity goes into each dish.

We live in the Baltimore suburbs around 30 minutes away, and is worth the drive. Our family will definitely return to the Blue Moon Cafe. Thank you for a memorable and enjoyable experience!!!

The hubby and I had breakfast this morning at the Blue Moon Cafe, and it was Amazing! We started off with one of their homemade cinnamon rolls straight out of the oven. To quote our waitress, "It taste[d] like Jesus!" The icing on it is perfect. We got the Cap'n Crunch french toast and the huevos rancheros. Wow! The huevos rancheros were perfectly cooked and had a great bite to them. Cap'n Crunch french toast....well, let me put it this way, I don't even like french toast and I ended up stealing my husband's! They are so good!

Our waitress said that people have been giving bad reviews because of the wait. Well we got there early about 7:30 (they open at 7), and we had our choice of tables. (I picked the pretty red one by the window :) By the time we left the place was jumping. The waitress anticipated a packed house with up to an hour wait later in the day. Let me tell you, it is worth the wait! Between the witty staff, the great atmosphere, and the HUGE portions of delicious food, you can't lose at the Blue Moon Cafe, even if you do have to wait!

My aunt brought me to this little gem in Fells Point about eight years ago, and it's been my favorite ever since. The restaurant is in an old Baltimore row-house, which hasn't been overly remodeled, and still feels like you're sitting in someone's living room (with tables). The decorations are appropriately Charm-City-quirky, with lots of moon-themed posters, paintings, and even a National Geographic educational poster in the first-floor bathroom.
The place has gotten a lot of attention since I first visited so long ago, and while it's reassuring to know that such a great business is doing well, it can really put a damper on your Saturday morning plans when you have to wait almost an hour for a table. Don't get me wrong: IT'S WORTH THE WAIT.
You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Just take a look around as you are finally escorted to your table, which on some busy days, you may agree to share with another couple who is also waiting. The breakfast items are so beautiful, you want to take a picture of them when they arrive. The orange juice (and grapefruit juice, which I don't drink) is fresh-squeezed and refreshing. The biscuit, which is included in many of the omelet and scramble meals, is a tower of rich, moist perfection that satisfies that bread craving you've been developing while waiting outside the restaurant for your table (there is a large industrial bakery across the street). It is served with a lovely wild blueberry jam and fresh butter. The fruit salad, which is available as a substitute for hash browns on the side of many meals, is colorful, ripe, sweet, and beautiful. The main courses are varied enough to satisfy any type of breakfast lover, but you're probably better off ditching your healthy-eating resolutions to get the full experience here. This morning I had the Mexican scramble: a delicious mishmash of chorizo sausage, eggs, fresh tomatoes, onions, and peppers, and topped with melted cheddar cheese. It was fabulous, and I haven't been hungry all day since.
The service is also very friendly and efficient. Servers seem to be working according to the team-method, so you never feel unattended-to or forgotten. Don't be fooled by all the piercings and tattoos you see adorning the staff: these guys are professional, and very customer-service oriented.
All in all, I think that despite the long wait for a table, this place remains my favorite place in the city for a comfort-food breakfast. I wish I could protect it from increased popularity, so I could ensure the wait won't be even longer the next time I get there, but this secret is just too good to keep.

You can tell this place is going to be good as soon as you get out of your car and are hit with this amazing aroma. Then you walk into to this cozy cafe where you feel right at home and are greeted by the friendly staff.

Then comes the food which was AMAZING! We were so impressed with the food we came back the very next day for more.

Day one we tried the home made cinnamon rolls which were melt in your mouth good. Then we had the cap n crunch french toast which came out with fresh fruit piled on top of whip cream which ended up being even better than the cinnamon rolls, which i thought would be impossible. then we added a side of bacon and hashbrowns which were excellent too.

Then next day we came back and had another yummy cinnamon roll! My husband got the mexican omlett and a side of sausage which he said was excellent. I got their stacked hashbrown. Which is the perfect mixture of hashbrown, egg, crab meat, cheddar cheese, and hollandaise sauce it was SO good.

Both times we had excellent service would highly recommend this place to anyone with taste buds

Spent two days in Baltimore and knew before going that I wanted to try the Cap'n Crunch french toast (love the cereal - I snack on it dry). Went with my husband during the week, around 11AM, and only had to wait about ten minutes. By the time we left, around 11:30 or so, the line was much longer. The Cap'n Crunch french toast did not disappointment, although I was 'forced' to eat a short stack all by myself because my husband is not a fan of sweet foods, and it IS sweet. Served with a topping of fresh fruits and cream, which definitely added to the experience by cutting the sweet a little bit. We found the Blue Moon Cafe through the television show 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives' and it's about the fourth place from the show that we have visited - and the best to date!

I really love this place! I know that the Capt.crunch french toast is awesome, but have you tried the crab, tomato, and cheddar eggs benedict. Yum!!!!!!!! I have to say there is really not a lot I haven't tried there yet. Oh and if there is a special definitely get that. Our waitress Gina who seems to be there every time we go is an excellent waitress and has a great sense of humor. The portions are huge so wear your loose fitting pants that day and oh don't forget to guess the song of the day for a free cup of Jo. I love this place.

We saw this place on the Food Network and had to go there. We started with the most fantastic cinnamon bun known to mankind! I had the Captain Crunch French Toast and loved it ( and I am not a french toast lover) I did not even have to cover it with syrup. My wife had harsh brown potatoes with cheddar cheese, tomatoes, crab meat, and two eggs over easy. It was DELICIOUS! We will go back, but this time when it is warmer. We had to wait outside in the cold for 35 minutes to get a table inside but it was worth it. Angie, our waitress, was a delight. She really took care of us.

Travelling from Silver Spring, MD on a Sunday morning, after a couple weeks being snowed in, we arrived to find the place packed, standing room only, outside as well....................we were greated at the counter and told, for a party of 6 it would be about 1 hour and 1/2 wait. There was no question that we wanted to come back in 1 1/2 hour. What made us certain was looking around the cafe and seeing all the great looking food and the smells were fabulous. We came back, and the waitresses were incredibly friendly, courteous and an absolute pleasure. Even bought some coffee and they ground it for us. Worth the Wait, Worth the Trip, Worth sharing with friends.....................great job BMC.

The waitress's attitude toward our group of 6 was great. Initially we were told the wait would be about an hour, and it was a cold hour. We were greeted with a good attitude from her and we were presented with our drinks immediately. We received our food shortly after. And to no surprise everthing was tasty. Our table tried the CAPN CRUNCH french toast. Everyone thought it was different but GOOD! It was a small tight space packed to the brim, but managable. The downsides: the long wait and we also noticed the waitress handle money and then the biscuits. Over all great experience. Recommend you try it out.

We were in Baltimore staying at the Marriott and needed a place to eat late at night. A local recommended the Blue Moon Cafe and when we got there around 3AM, we knew we had struck gold...

It's a casual place with great service that fosters a friendly atmosphere and we had a fun time joking with the tables next to us while waiting for our food, which was absolutely phenomenal. I had eggs, bacon and regular french toast while my companions all opted for the Cap'n Crunch French Toast (I tried it. It is EXCELLENT). My food was great and I think the bacon was some of the best I've ever had.

The food was so good that we rushed out of our conference on Saturday morning to make it back to Blue Moon before the closed for the day. So glad we made it...

Gina, the manager, was super cool with us and recommended the Eggs Benedict with spicy MD crab (and I opted for it on a homemade biscuit) with hash browns. I loved it. My partners had Cap'n Crunch French toast (again) and one guy had the Chorizo'n'Eggs (also delicious).

We'd also heard about their 'sticky buns,' but were told they were out of the normal kind. Luck for us, the busser (nicknamed "Chicken") came through with the chocolate chip sticky buns. We'd already stuffed ourselves so we took 'em to go, but after a long drive back to NYC just a couple mins in the microwave and we were in heaven.

In summary:
- Excellent, well-prepared, homemade food
- Great portions
- Friendly staff
- Fun atmosphere
- Fairly priced

If you are in the area, make it a point to go here. I can't wait to go back.

Yes, we have all experienced this view from our cars. Driving past Blue Moon cafe any weekend morning you will find the restless and loyal bunch standing outside waiting for their name to be called.
While living in Baltimore for a total of 8 years I have never visited the BMC. Then one rainy morning (during the week) I had the opportunity to devour the best waffles I have ever had. Staff was wonderful and the experience is remembered!

Can't Stand the line...Go during the week. Duh..

I have been waiting a long time to sample this icon since I saw the report on it on the Food Network.

I was not disappointed.

Place is cozy but the food is terriic.

Gina was a great waitress.
She suggested a small order of French toast with the Capt. Crunch coating. What a great idea. This is not to be missed.

I have been sending out-town-guests here for a long time. Now I can give them a first-hand review.

Don't miss it.

We went and were greeted at the door by a young kid with a bad attitude who appeared to be bouncing the door. He was sitting in the middle of the steps and was taking names and letting people in when it was their turn. When we asked him how long the wait was we had to ask 3 times to be given a snotty answer. We were told it would be an hour for a wait. We decided to try and order to go, only to be given a bad attitude yet again when we asked to view a menu. So in short we didnt even get in the door and had a bad enough experience to make us want to leave. They should reconsider who they have outside representing their establishment. We decided to go to Jimmy's where the food, staff, and overall experience was EXCELLENT!

Great greasy spoon that is open late and never fails to deliver excellent food. When I've been out on the town with the boys I need grease before hitting the bed. If you've been out with the fellas for a night of good ol' American debauchery this is the place that hits the spot be it burgers, pancakes or anything that goes well after about 15 pints of beer.

The four of us ventured out on a Saturday morning to try the infamous Captain Crunch French Toast we had seen on TV. Gina suggested we get an order of the french toast and then for everyone to get their own entree's. What a wonderful suggestion, everyone got to try it, it was as delicious as it looked. We all raved about our choices and found ourselves trying each others food. We were very surprised with some of the mixed reviews, this certainly did not reflect the experience that we had. Great service, Great food and great fun at this cozy cafe. When leaving we were already anticipating a return visit. Blue Moon Cafe was definitely worthy of the praise given by Guy Fieri.
