Utter incompetence, carelessness, negligence, and deceptive business practices on top of all that. \r
Having seen this staff in action, I wouldn't let them take my temperature, let alone advise on any kind of serious orthopedic

Contrary to the rating notes from the other review, I got pretty good service from the doctor and his support staff. However, even after my injury has completely healed, I am still sparring with a lackadaisical billing department. Here is a time line of events:

April 2007
They dropped the ball by not communicating with my physician prior to my surgery. My physician's nurse said they left several messages. However, it took personal intervention to ensure things went smoothly with my operation the following day.

November 2007
They billed both Carefirst and me for a scheduled office visit ($91), Which I payed in December. I didn't catch the billing error (I assume error) until I received a statement from Carefirst and saw they billed them as well. When I contacted their billing department m on Jan 24, 2008 and asked why they sent two bills for the same visit, I was told that it was "just the procedure." After verifying that the bill was indeed paid twice, the attendant indicated that a refund will be processed in 6-8 weeks.

May 7, 2008
I have not yet received a refund or a document confirming the billing error. I called their billing office (same number) and I was told there was no record of my call in January, and that no refund was currently being processed. After explaining the matter again, she said the refund will be processed in 6 to 8 weeks (sounds familiar, eh?). I told her that that was not acceptable. She responded "the best she could do is to tell my manager to "rush" the $75 refund because you waited so long..." I said "$75- why are you not refunding the full amount overpaid??" She said that that's the amount she has.

Please tell me, why is it that the sick have to work so hard and pay so much to get well these days??

I'd give no stars if that were an option. Extremely dissatisfied with services of Dr. Ira Gelb at Columbia, MD, branch of Potomac Valley Orthopedics. Saw him for a broken rib following a sports injury. He was arrogant and rude and acted like he had better things to do than spend time with a patient -- he spent less than 5 minutes with me but charged almost $300 for the visit. I will never go back to him or the medical center again.
