Set in an old plantation-style mansion in Taneytown, Antrim 1844 features a restaurant and a bed and breakfast. It is without a doubt the best restaurant in our area; nobody else comes close. Dinner is served in two seatings, with elaborate appetizers served while you're waiting to be seated. The food is simply great. I've never disliked anything I've eaten there. They could serve arugula and anchovy soup, and it would be delicious. During the holidays, the downstairs rooms are decorated for Christmas, with giant trees that nearly touch the ceilings. The rooms are lovingly appointed, with feather beds, fireplaces, and thick, elegant drapes. Some rooms have jacuzzi tubs. In the morning, a continental breakfast is left outside each room. A full country breakfast is served to all the guests mid-morning, and high tea is served in the afternoon. The grounds are gorgeous, featuring well-maintained gardens, a cement swimming pool, and a croquet court.

PROS: Leisurely dining experience in a gorgeous setting.
CONS: Pricey .... but soooo worth it.

Executive chef Michael Gettier has found a delightful country home in Taneytown, where he brings his signature French style to Richard and Dorothy Mollett's charming Antrim 1844. The hotel's prix-fixe, multi-course format remains the same:…
