I remember going here as a kid and loving it, and it was a road trip destination when I was in high school in Virginia. I was delighted on a recent trip to Frederick to see it was still there, so of course I had to stop for lunch. Our food was really good - I had salad, my mom had potpie, and my grandson had chicken tenders. The tenders were 100% chicken breast - no pink slime in the food at this place - and hand breaded. He thought it was wonderful, and frankly so did I. I would eat here again if the food was awful, just for the atmosphere. Luckily, the food is really good. Loved it still after all these years!

My family stopped by on our trip from PA to VA, for second time in 2 years. The food was excellent; large portions and great prices. The waitress on our second visit was more down to earth than the first visit. The building is old-fashion looking but we came for the food. The food took some time but it was hot and great well worth the wait for fresh home cooked meals. We plan to stop by again during the holidays! Keep serving up the great food.

My wife and I stop here regularly when driving through from Michigan to DC. This is one of those old-fashioned diner type places with homemade food and employees that are small town eccentric, hence the charm. I challenge those with the bad reviews to examine their expectations. Good, basic food. The place is neat and clean. It is an old building but I wasn't fighting off bugs or using dirty utensils. Dessert is worth the stop. So, if you want a hamburger with cheese, tomato and a little mayo that is what you will get. No ground -turkey here! Open your eyes and you will see the charm.

We had heard great things about this place since they changed hands. We were misinformed. The place is extremely run down still and the service was ridiculously slow. The waitress was anything but friendly and the food was cold. Horrible experience!

My husband and I checked out Barbara Fritchie's place when we first moved to town, thinking, "Oh, what a quaint little local restaurant. Let's get into the local culture." Big mistake! This place is run down and the service is SLOW. The slogan outsdie says to stop in for a story, but our waitress didn't feel like talking. She was gruff. For a long time I wondered how this place stayed in business, but I actually met a man in the grocery store who told me he goes there every day for coffee. I held my tongue and smiled. Maybe they have good coffee?

Barbara Fritchies is run down, inside and out. No question about that. And most of the food is just plain... plain. Nothing to write home about. However, they do excel in three areas (which is why I suspect they've managed to stay in business all these years). 1) They have the best chipped beef over toast in town. 2) Their fresh-squeezed juice, though pricey, is delicious and squeezed on demand. 3) Their homemade pies are delicious. They have banana cream pie, apple pie, ice cream sundaes made with Hershey ice cream, and more. Every Fredericktonian should try Barbara Fritchies at least once.

PROS: The best chipped beef over toast in town, fresh-squeezed oj; homemade pies.
CONS: Run-down building; most of the other food is pretty bad.

Our family of 5 recently visited this restaurant. It looks like one of those restaurants that has been around for quite some time. Sometimes that is a good things and others times it is not. This is one of those cases. The food must have been past so long ago and it has remained that way because it looks like nothing has been updated in 30 years. The food was basic menu items, but just plain bad. Do not waste your time or money looking for a trip back in time on this old place.
