Anything but poor

by Patricia G. | insider Insider | Rank: 19,173

No matter what season this place seems to have exactly what I didn't know I was looking for. In the fall the color of the mums was a regal purple cranberry. Everywhere else had sort of brown burgundy's- I even tried the wholesale flower district in D.C. to no avail. Last Christmas everyone appreciated the cocoa mixtures and eggnog. I am always able to find the right lights, the right dish towels, or perfect housewarming plant or gift. They offer a huge candle selection, beautiful wreaths with juniper berries, fresh holly and garlands, great ornaments. Everything is reasonably priced. To compete with large chain sale pricing around the holidays, they offer "bucks" that are cash good from New Year's until the end of Feb. for $ spent.

A friendly garden center with a great selection

by Ashley H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,815

Poor boys offers a great variety of plants. They have one of the best selections in the area! All of thier plants are healthy and well cared for, and you can find things at Poor Boys you won't find anywhere else. The staff is always very eager to help. They have a great selection of pond plants, fish, and pond supplies. The gift shop is quaint and has a great selection. They also have some beautiful ponds set up on display, and even if you aren't buying any plants, you should still stop by just to browse and check out thier pond!

Fun place with interesting items.

by Angela C. | insider Insider | Rank: 18,281

I really enjoy browsing there center. They always seem to have a variety of unique items as well as the old standards. The plants are always in excellent condition, but you do pay for it. They are not cheap but then you do get what you pay for.

Unique Store

by Jason J. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,958

Poor Boy's is nice small garden center that offers a unique inventory of things for your garden. You can find all sorts of gifts for the home as well. They also have a wide variety of fish that you can purchase, as well as all the supplies you would need to create your own backyard pond. If you are looking for an alternative to places like Home Depot and Lowe's for garden supplies, Poor Boy's is a fun place to browse around at.

great for the holidays

by Kristen J. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,047

Poor Boys sells plants and gifts year round, but I especially like to visit during the holidays. My family always purchases their Christmas tree there, and they offer a wide selection. Trees are always hearty and healthy, no rip offs. The gift store is always cozy and fun to peruse--clean and well kept. The owner's dogs serve as outside, they're so friendly and cute. The staff is always helpful and friendly as well.
