Just got ripped off by Banfield, signed up for the wellness care for my dog and you must remember the anniversary date if you don't read the fine print and call the 800 number in the contract within the first year, west coast time to California you will automatically be charged $289 for another year. We had thought when we were at the store and told the girl their we did not want to renew it was taken care of. You must call the 800 number in the contract in fine print to cancel. Then we received a phone call and when I answered it I was put on hold for three minutes and then was told I was going to be sent to a collection agency and I must pay the person on the phone $50. Very unprofessional you would think with todays technology they could email or call you to notify you. They call you and ask if you want to get your dogs groomed or remind you of an appointment. This is a scam don't get ripped off like me.

Absolutely HORRIBLE experience I've ever had with a vet. I've had dogs my whole life and I've been to different vets, and this is the absolute WORST vet I've ever been to. I have an anxious 12 pound dog without a mean bone in his body and they were scared of him and treated him as though he was a huge aggressive dog. They didn't try to get to know him or comfort him they just came right in saw he was shaking and trying to climb in my arms to get away from them and they grabbed him and put an extremely tight and too small of a muzzle on him causing him to panic. I've never seen my dog in such distress If they were competent and had a clue about dogs they would have known to let him sniff them and to talk to him trying to comfort him and relieve his anxiety. Not man handle him and cause him even more anxiety. I went to this vet because my old vet raised their prices a lot. I will NEVER again go this horrible place I will pay the extra costs and stick with Buckeystown Vet where they know what they're doing and have never treated my dog horribly or like an aggressive dog because he is the furthest thing from it. I realize lots of dog owners deny their dogs being aggressive, but I'm not an idiot and know my dog. He's never had a problem at the vet before (other then his anxiety which I'm pretty sure no dog is excited to be at the vet) he lets anyone and everyone do anything to him and has never growled or snapped. Also, these idiots tried double charging me for my visit and the vaccines because they can't keep accurate records and are just complete IDIOTS.

In my personal opinion, it's better to buy pet insurance such as TRUPANION and take your dog elsewhere (to any vet of your choice).

My dogs ACL tear was misdiagnosed as a sprain, she was given medication by a newbie Vet who severely under prescribed for her weight and did nothing for the severe pain (told to us by my dogs Orthopedic surgeon).

Then, we found out that Banfield does not do ACL repairs (a $3,500.00 surgery) although their pet policy says it covers surgery at a discounted rate. The policy says nothing to include what operations they do not include, leading a person who buys the policy to believe that all surgeries are covered at the discounted procedure rate.

Also, If you check their prices for medications and procedures, Banfield is totally overpriced compared to other regular Veterinarians!!! I guess they do this to compensate for the free office visit included with the plan. If your pet needs a procedure/surgery: Go get a quote from other vets for the same procedure.

BANFIELD'S MEDICATION PRICES ARE EXTREMELY OVERPRICED SO WE ASK FOR A WRITTEN PRESCRIPTION and then go to PETMEDS to fill it & get express shipping. PETMEDS even has overnight shipping.

FEDERAL LAW STATES:

A DOCTOR CANNOT WITHHOLD GIVING YOU A PRESCRIPTION TO GET FILLED ELSEWHERE-

The facts:
Federal law states that a human doctor or Veterinarian MUST provide a prescription to a patient when asked and a doctor cannot withhold it, nor require any patient to buy medication from them or limit where a patient can buy their medication.

We got charged $99.00 for worming medication and the same wormer can be purchased at Southern States for $12.50 and would do 10-15 large dogs.

Always ask your vet for the name of the medication they want to prescribe, and check elsewhere for pricing at pharmacies such as Petmeds, Costco, Walmart & Giant Food. You can call those pharmacies right from the vet's office to ask how much they charge for the same prescription. My Frederick Banfield wanted to charge $8+ per pill for an antibiotic (21 pills = Banfield's price of $168.00) and I got a quote for $1.60 per pill from Petmeds for the same antibiotic and the local Germantown Veterinary clinic (Germantown, MD) had the SAME antibiotic for $2.60 per pill! Whoa! BIG DIFFERENCE. BANFIELD IS A BIG RIP-OFF!

If you protest to Banfield, they will sometimes match prices. (PS: Don't listen to their BS Story that they'll tell you about how you don't know what you're getting when you buy from 1800Pemeds etc. -they're telling you a bunch of hooey only meant to have you buy from Banfield at their exorbitant pricing).

If Banfield matches the price, great. if not, Just be sure to get your pet the medication very quickly so they get treated ASAP. Don't wait or get regular slow shipping.

There are wide differences in pricing!

Also, Walmart & Giant Food have special pricing of $9.99 for many medications -including a lot of antibiotics. They also have a printout of all those specially priced meds at the pharmacy. Go ask the pharmacy for a copy of the discounted medications list and keep it for reference.

I frequently take the list to the Vet and ask if any of those medications will be appropriate if needed.

Why pay more for the same thing? Either get it immediately from a local pharmacy or overnight it from 1800Petmeds.

-Hope this review helps you.

The vets are wonderful here! We bring our cat and dog here and are always treated well. They also have plans you can sign up for which saves you tons of money! We have our pets on it and they get 2 comp exams a year and all their shots for a low monthly price. It's clean and everyone is very friendly! They are even open on the weekends!
