Horrible, horrible, horrible!! Both the local and corporate offices are horrible. My move details were never confirmed nor entered in the system. The movers were definitely not students and came smelling of weed and cigarettes. I purchased my own supplies, i.e. boxes and they ended up charging me for use of their supplies, without making me aware of this. I became aware when I saw the bill for $2000 11 hours later!! My DVD, stereo and utensils are missing. The corporate office was rude, unprofessional and inappropriate. They denied my claim to pay the balance (basically use of their materials). I'm now going to try to contact their CEO, Mark Peters. Do not use this company - EVER!!

I will never use this company again. My experience with them was terrible, and their customer service was nothing short of atrocious.
First of all, they arrived well outside the window. When they finally got there, they told me that my apartment was on the third floor so they wouldn't be able to make the move that day. I would think as a professional moving company, you would have all the details of the move before you showed up. In any case, i spent 45 minutes trying to convince them to carry out the scheduled move, which they finally agreed to do.
Three days later i receive a call from them saying that my deposit was declined, and threatened me with litigation and reporting me to a credit agency if they did not receive a payment from me within 10 days. All this on the first call, mind you. Subsequently, i made numerous frantic calls to try and resolve the issue, which all went unanswered. About 5 hours later, i received a voicemail from an associate telling to disregard the message, because it was an error on their part!
The next day, i realised that my discover card ( on which i made the deposit payment) had been charged the full amount of the move, IN ADDITION to my visa card, from which they had already debited the move amount.
Needless to say, im infuriated and frustrated with them. They are terrible

Absolutely the worst moving company ever. Below is an email I send to the Baltimore office with (shocking) no response. NEVER use them:
I wanted to follow up with you about my move this past Saturday. Overall I was very disappointed with my experience with Starving Students. I was aware that I was to be the second move of the day but I was originally told that they would be there around 10 or 10:30. 11 at the latest. They did not arrive until 1:30. When I spoke with you on the phone that morning you said you would be able to discount my move, which was not done. When the movers did finally arrive they had the original price of $89.99, not the price we agreed upon above. During the move I watched NUMEROUS pieces of my furniture be damaged. I actually watched an entire piece of wood come off of my bureau. I watched them stack boxes full of booxes full of books (and clearly labeled as such) on top of boxes labeled FRAGILE with giant red stickers on them. Consequently 4 of my pieces of glassware were broken. They were incredibly slow (so much so, that one of the movers said to me "If I was with my regular guy this would have been up here by now. He's struggling today"). When I am paying movers by the hour, the last thing I want to see or hear is that they are moving significantly slower that they should be. The final piece of furniture was into my apartment by 5:30 yet it somehow took them another 30 minutes to put the door back on and charged by for that half hour as well. They did not assemble by mirror to my dresser, something that I specifically had asked about when I originally booked. They also put my bed together without the slats-- finally asked "are you sure this matterss goes on this frame, it keeps falling through". Another 20+ minutes wasted. After they left I realized that instead of screwing the pieces in they threw the screws under the bed.
I would hope that this situation is not a common occurrance for starving students and was unique to my situation and the crew that I had. However, when a level of service is promised by Starving Students, the customer expects it--Because I was charged hourly, I ended up paying $537. I feel I am being asked to pay more for these mistakes and poor service. I am hoping there is something you can do to help remedy this situa

We were booked for the afternoon shift on the 30th which is supposed to be from 1pm-5pm and quoted a rate of $89/hour. They called us on the 29th to confirm that they would be there at 2pm on the 30th. By 4pm on the 30th when no one had shown up or contacted us all day we called the baltimore office number which rang and went to their voicemail. We left a voicemail and called the number they gave for emergencies which went straight to the same voicemail. By 6pm we called the corporate office (the 800 number) to ask for their help in contacting our movers. The corporate office said that the Baltimore people were on a conference call with corporate and couldn't talk but they would have someone call us back. At 6:30 when no one had called, I called corporate and demanded to speak to someone in Baltimore so they connected me to the movers supervisor named Garen. Garen talked to me and said that the people w

ho were being moved before us had more inventory than they originally stated so that it took a longer time to move them but that they could be at our place at 8pm. He offered to lower my rate to $89/hour but since that was the rate we were ALREADY originally promised this was worthless.

Then we waited and waited and by 9 we were calling Garen back but he would either not answer or hit the "ignore" button on his phone when we called. Around 10 we called corporate again who gave us the address that our movers were at. Amanda and her mom drove to that address which was a wachovia bank that was obviously closed and had no people there. Again, Garen ignored our phone calls and no one else at corporate knew what to do. Finally, at 11pm Garen called to say the movers were on their way to our place. They finally arrived at midnight and began to move our things. The movers looked SO tired and had clearly been doing something all day because they were moving extremely slow. At one point there was an altercation with the police who were called by a DRUNK woman screaming profanities at the movers so she could drive out of the access road. It would have been easier for her to back up out of the access road but seeing as she was wasted this wouldn't register with her. So

the cops came and to "protect the rights" of the drunk woman they threatened to arrest our movers and forced us to move the truck. This all took about an hour of wasted moving time. Also, at this point the cops grabbed our mover causing him to drop a bed frame which the cop then kicked into our coffee table, breaking one of the legs.

When they were done loading the truck they tried to drive it into our back alley behind our house to unload, even though we told them that there was no room back there. They subsequently jammed their truck in the alley, hitting someones garage and denting the top of the moving truck. They decided to park the truck on the grassy median in the middle of the street in front of our house. When trying to drive up the curb the truck kept stalling and almost tipping over. By this point it was 3am and we were panicking about the amount of time this was taking. The movers only moved things from across the street to our living room - we carried EVERYTHING up the stairs ourselves because they were going SO slowly. One of the movers even paid a homeless man $20 to help them carry things in but then the homeless crackhead dropped my desk, breaking it in half. By the end of the night (5am) one of the movers arms kept cramping to the point that he couldnt move his hands because he had been so overworked.

When they calculated our bill they ended up charging us $99/hour for 5 hours.

I've been communicating with the customer service people for literally 6 months trying to get my money back. I just filed a complaint with the better business bureau and have retained a lawyer to take legal action against the company. DO NOT HIRE THEM.

This company absolutely ruined my move from baltimore-dc. Not only did I warn them ahead of time of what they had to do, but when they showed up they seemed shocked by the size of my things and the fact that I didn't have an elevator. I MENTIONED all of this ahead of time! When I told the sales rep that I had a limit of $700 to pay for this job, he told me that this move would not take more than 4 hours and to put aside my worries. The move ended up taking 10 hours and they charged me $1446. Since the workers practically demanded a tip, I also shelled out another hundo to avoid a crime scene. (the movers were the opposite of students, more like starving ex-convicts)

Overall, this company should be put out of business and after filing complaint after complaint, I am officially livid!

I cannot tell you how awful this experience was! First -- they didn't show up on the day my move was scheduled. The guy acted like it was no big deal: "We'll just come out tomorrow." You've got to be kidding. The movers were absolute idiots -- the guy driving the truck had no concept of how to back up a large vehicle. Then they got lost getting to my new place. At the end -- guess what: They over-charged me! DON'T USE THIS COMPANY -- THEY ARE THIEVES.

Moving is stressful enough by itself - let alone when your movers don't show up. Terrible customer service - after listening to my complaint, the customer service attendant put me on hold for 25 minutes before I ran out of patience and hung up. When I called back, I was mysteriously disconnected. And when I called back again, I was sent straight to voice mail. I should have checked the BBB before using these guys - there are a bunch of unresolved complaints already. I'll never use them again - in fact, I'll go out of my way to proselytize against them.

The two Samoan Movers were really good. They were nice, strong and did not look like they were expecting anything from us. These two lifted what was a 250lb treadmill with ease. I was expecting to have to help but, there was no need. I did not enquire but, they looked like a couple of defensive linemen. Cheers!

The movers were very courteous and friendly, and worked extremely quickly. They even moved my bookcases, which I originally had planned to move myself. They took at least 3-4 hours off my move by doing that! I would definitely recommend Starving Students to a friend.

We just made a local move, and we are not happy at all. A table was ruined, and they LOST some of our stuff!!!! We are missing some boxes of valuable things, but because we didn't opt for the $150 insurance, we will be lucky to get anything. We are dealing with their claims right now. On top of that, this move cost us more than to move across the country. If you can help it, don't use Starving Students.

PROS: On time.
CONS: Lost and damaged stuff. Expensive.

We used this company to move 3 years ago. Decent service--our stuff got to the new place and nothing was broken. However, they charged us 500 dollars more than we were quoted. For truly "starving" students, this wasn't a pleasant surprise!!
