This clinic recently reopened after being closed in 2007 for ~5 years. She is through and reasonably priced as well as being one of those people who can explain something without being condescending.

There is another clinic nearby on University Blvd. that reviewer from 2010 may have mixed her clinic up with because I have never seen any staff besides Dr. McDowell.

My family and extended family have been bringing our cats and dogs to Dr. McDowell at Kensington Veterinary Hospital for the 30+ years she has been there. Her doors were closed in December 2007 for serious health issues, but she has reopened. As far as that negative review from Stephanie C., dated April 26, 2010, Kensington Veterinary Hospital wasn't even open and there is only one vet. Over the years, I have had many cats tested for feline leukemia and never had such an experience. I have nothing but the highest of praise for Dr. McDowell's incredible skills as a diagnostician and practitioner. Her compassion and genuine affection for all her patients is obvious by the kindness and gentleness shown them. In the past, you did not need an appointment and because she is so highly respected, her waiting room did get crowed at times, but most definitely not a free for all. I always found everyone content to talk and exchange stories of how satisfied they are with the care Dr. McDowell provides. My dogs LOVE to go see her and she always has treats and toys to make it a positive experience. I understand she is even growing catnip for the kitties to enjoy. I would ask Stephanie C. if she is sure it was Kensington Veterinary Hospital and not somewhere else. I am so grateful that we can go back to Dr. McDowell again.

As a pet lover and penny pincher, life can be a tight rope act. You have your pet's comfort and well being to consider, but you aren't loaded down with tons of cash either. Sometimes, just sometimes, you can catch a break and get the best of both worlds. Here it is.

Dr McDowell is one of those rare vets who not only gets that animals are like family to us owners, but that like family, we have other expenses to consider as well. Our first encounter with her was over 4 years ago with my daughter's hamster and his terrible over bite. The other animal hospital down the road wanted $50 just for the office visit and an additional amount all this just to clip his overgrown teeth! Dr McDowell charged us $25 total and made us laugh with stories about hamsters she'd owned as well. Her bedside manner couldn't have been better.

I am glad that after a health battle of her own, she has reopened her doors to her practice. My pets, my kids, my wallet and I couldn't be happier to see her again!

This animal hospital is terrible. We went there with our cats for several years, but there were no appointments. You just signed in and it was kind of a free for all on Saturdays and at night.

What really upset me was one of our cats had to have blood drawn which she hated. I instinctively said that they were hurting her. The vet ranted and raved at me and said this was not something other clients needed to hear and that she would never inject another of my cats again.

I can't prove it, but I think the vets mixed up some feline leukemia test results on 2 of our cats. The cat they said was negative died as a result of feline leukemia. The cat they said was positive never had it and we had to isolate another cat we got for 4 months for what turned out to be no reason.

Fortunately, we discovered Montgomery Animal Hospital and have had wonderful care ever since.
