i was there last night...went in said i wanted a hair cut, told to have a seat.someone else came in and was taken right away.
a staff person put on her coat and got ready to leave asked me who i was waiting for said a hair cut. she took off her coat and said have a seat.BIG MISTAKE! i said i wanted it shorter and cliped up the back she took the clipers to my whole head when i tried to stop her she said wait it will look great when i am done and continued to clip. finally i said enough and paid $15 for the WORST haircut of my adult life. i cry everytime i think of it.

Pros: My experience with hair cuttery was quite alright. Smith Avenue hair stylist was nice and seemed to listen to my hair care concerns. As soon as you walk in some one greets you and ask you to have a seat. Within a couple of minutes someone comes to you and ask if you have a preference for a hair stylist. About 5 minutes more your in the chair having your hair shampooed. Very quick and fast service and payed attention to my hair. My hair was breaking and had some damage. Her consultation for me was no blow drying or flat iron until my hair strengthen. My Hair Stylist was "ORETHA" and she's the BEST.

Cons: Hair Cuttery is quite expensive. My redken color cost $40.00 and the Mizani relaxers (perms) cost $49.00. I think this is a little much.

My husband went to the Smith St. Hair Cuttery. When he went in they asked if he had a preference for a hairdresser; because he didn't know any of them they chose to give him a cutter who obviously had the least experience. She chopped his hair up and we left feeling awkward and uneasy because the hair cutter had a disability and we did not want to offend her as she was clearly trying to do her best. We support giving people with disabilities opportunities to work. What was most disheartening is that we believe the more experienced cutters who numbered about 5, were all sitting around watching her chop his hair up and said nothing until I respectfully expressed some displeasure with it. Then they started telling us what we could do to fix it...they used water and hair spray to temporarily remedy the situation. This establishment will never get our business again.

The Hair Cuttery has a bad rep as being a cheap place to get your hair cut with below average stylists. However, when I went to this particular Hair Cuttery on a whim, I was pleasantly surpised. I was telling my stylist, Kelly, how I have very thick and unmanageable hair which usually ends up getting massacred at the barber. Kelly, to my delight, not only did a first rate job, but actually listened to what I wanted and asked me questions throughout to make sure I was satisfied. She also gave me tips I can do every day to make my hair lie better on my head and not be so out of control. I surmise that every salon is basically the same....its the stylists who are good or bad.
