Harborplace is fun for tourists. We used to go a lot when it first opened 24+ years ago but after awhile it wasn't worth battling the crowds. There are a lot of fast food places and some nice seating overlooking the harbor. The shops are mostly the same ones you see in big malls all over the country, with the exception of a few small shops and kiosks that sell Baltimore souvnirs and fun kitschy stuff.

There are some good restaurants, though i would avoid the Cheesecake Factory if you mind long waits for tables and service. The food is not quite worth all that.

We still enjoy the view of the harbor and seeing visiting ships and our own U.S.S. Constellation in dock (fun to tour, too). People-watching can be fun, too. Just be prepared to pay through the nose for parking!

Harborplace and the Gallery consist of 3 buildings full of shops and restaurants. They are right in the middle of the Inner Harbor making them very convenient when you are sightseeing. There are many stores of various types, including your typical souvenir shops but also many high-end retailers in the Gallery. Eateries include The Cheesecake Factory, J. Paul's, Phillips, California Pizza Kitchen, and Capital City Brewing Company to name a few. Though it can be packed during the summer, Harborplace is a great place to visit to see the harbor but also get in some shopping and lunch or dinner out.

We liked all the little specialty stores, especially the ones where you could buy crab stuff and other Maryland kitsch. Kind of pricy, but not too bad since it's Baltimore.

PROS: Crab stores
CONS: Crowded
