Wow. I don't know that I've ever been treated more rudely. "Surly" "angry" and "contemptuous" sort of begin to describe the way the woman treated me and my two girls. I brought them there for a haircut because I had heard it was a decent, inexpensive haircut. My girls are extremely shy and well-behaved, age 8 and 10. The hardly make a peep, so it wasn't a case of rudeness being the result of obnoxious children. The woman grabbed my daughter's hair roughly, as though she was in a bad mood. She LITERALLY said nothing other than "hello" during the entire 15 minute haircut to either of my kids. Didn't even ask what they wanted. After she'd trimmed it, she gruffly motioned my over for approval. I said it was fine. She whipped the drape off and washed her hands of us. "Bye," she said, flatly. We'll never be back. And frankly the haircut sucked. It was uneven. The place downtown rocks. This one is awful. Don't waste your money.

All around wonderful! Theresa Rocks! I usually hate getting my hair colored because it takes so long. But Theresa was so great the time just flew by. I will definitely be back.

Pros: Staff, Quality cuts and color, Good prices

Cons: They could use a larger space but the staff makes up for it with good customer service

I made an appointment @ Tenpachi and on my way there it started POURING down rain. It was my first time there and I couldnt see anything except the white windshield so I pulled over and waited 10 min which made me late. I did not have their phone number w/me but I figured I would explain what happened when I got in there and that would be the end of it. I walked in, apologized for being 15 min late and said I had to pull over b/c I was blinded by the rain... Kelly, said nothing but showed me how upset she was about my lack of punctuality by literally pulling my hair out of my head during the wash. When I sat in the chair and looked in the mirror I said "wow my cheeks are flaming red" and thought "oh thats b/c she just tried to pull my brains out through my hair follicles."
I showed her a simple picture of a cut I have had done a million times before w/no issue and she said "Um... 1 problem... your hair is curly and that will make you look like a poodle" Long discussion short I told her to please just cut it as best as possible according to the picture, I asked her to thin it out and she did not, she chopped my hair in 10 min (just as painfully as she washed it) and then whipped my apron off of me and said "o.k ready to rock and roll" and she walked away.
It was 1 of the rudest customer service experiences of my life and I will never go back. Thankfully it was $15 but she didnt deserve any of it

A few years ago my boyfriend & I went to Tenpachi for a quick summer trim. It was very quick - we were out (both of us) in ten minutes. The stylist l;ooked as if we were putting us out and was in a big hurry. When I got home I had to cut my hair myself as she hadn't taken the time to even i up. I don't remember her name but I decided not to go back. I just needed a trim recently so I thought I'd give them another try. The service was great! The stylist was super friendly and took time with my hair. I had been growing my hair out from a short inverted bob and she remarked how I had no layers. Well she fixed that! Sadly she totally butchered my hair thinning out the bottom ends and leaving me looking like a mushroom. I called and they were very nice and said to come in and they would fix it for free. I did and the manager basically said it couldn't be fixed and just cut it into a shorter more thinning mushroom. I now have to go get all of my hair cut off hopefully only to the chin. NEVER GO THERE~

after moving to baltimore in early 06, I had been to i don't know how many places to get anything from a simple trim, to my roots touched up. and everywhere I went the person either didn't understand, or they just did what ever they wanted to do anyway. anyways a friend told me about tenpachi, so I went to the one on eastern avenue. the girls were really nice, and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. I got my highlights done, my hair trimmed, and styled for under $100! I'm so excited to finally find a place here that does a good job without charging way too much. so if your'e looking for a new stylist, go to my girl her name is shayna (sp?) she did exactly what I asked her to, and had some good suggestions.

I just went to Tenpachi for the first time and was really really happy with the results! Nikki did exactly what I asked, and it was so quick and easy. It only cost me $13, where can you beat that price and STILL get a great haircut? The last time I paid that cheap of a price was at a Hair Cuttery and I literally left in tears... since then I'd been going to an upscale salon but it got to be too expensive.

I know they are sticklers for being on time, but when I ran in and asked to go pay my meter (which would have made me late), they had absolutely no problem with it.

I was extremely happy with the results! Nikki was very friendly, and I am going back in this weekend to get some color treatment! The whole experience was a very positive one.

I have been to quite a few places here in Baltimore for highlights -- including much pricier salons -- and I feel like Diana at Tenpachi did BY FAR the best job. I have received many compliments on my hair since she started doing the highlights. I really recommend her.

I've been a regular there for about 2 years (Missy cuts my hair). It's cheap and quick. They give you a free shampoo beforehand. I've always thought the service was great and she does a nice job on my hair. I think they probably do a better job with guys' hair than with girls', but that could be because guys are easier to please.

My boyfriend was a regular customer at Tenpachi & I decided to try it myself. Everytime he would come home, I'd have to trim what they missed while he was there. They didn't do a very good job on my hair either. My hair is straight as an arrow and long, and there were still hairs they missed. I don't recommend going there unless you feel like trimming it up again when you go home. We also experienced the whole "if you're not here, reschedule" thing. Even if you're less than 5 minutes late, they make you schedule a whole new appointment.

Tenpachi is a very low budget hair salon. They cut your hair (quickly) and then you sit at mirrored stations and blow dry and style your own hair. I've had decent cuts there, but the consistency varies widely by stylist. I'd ask around for who the best are. I've had good luck with Ariana.

PROS: Afordable
CONS: Inconsistent

The first time I went there, I was late by about 7 mins, so I was told that I would have to reschedule even though the next appointment hadn't yet shown up. I rescheduled it, and realized what a bad mistake that was. After the haircut, I asked for a hair-dry; and the stylist grudgingly agreed to do it, even when I was perfectly fine with the extra $10 that she charged for it. She was so rough with the drying, that at one point, I thought she was going to tear my hair from its follicles. She did not bother to put the apron on me again, and as a result every inch of my body was covered with small hairs. When I complained about it, she asked me to use the hair-dryer myself to remove it.

Will never go there again. Very, very unprofessional.

I've made Tenpachi my personal 'salon of record' after getting some awesome haircuts from Nikki D, and having some great conversations as well. Great price, great haircut, great atmosphere. I don't know why other people on here are complaining about this salon. I personally have had nothing but great experiences here. Ask for Nikki D, for a truly rated TENpachi experience.

Can't get any cheaper than this place, and still feel clean afterwards. I just needed a straight across, no frills haircut, and they provided just that. I was done in less than 15 minutes. Sure you style your own hair, but for $11 what are you really expecting?

I had read that tenpachi in Fells Point was rated as the best place to get a hair cut in City Paper, so I took a chance. I got my brows done and my hair cut and highlighted. The cut and brows were ok, not great, but the highlights are terrible. I am going back to have them try to fix it. It was supposed to be sunkissed but it is a large platinum streak in the front of my head. Awful. I am so embarrassed. Not recommended.

If you want a cheap hair cut, this is the place to go. If you want a good hair cut, I would probably go somewhere else. Not once have I gone into Tenpachi and received the style I desired. I usually came out looking like I had just joined the army. The redeeming quality is that it costs only $10 for men. I guess this helps because the area is largely populated by students and people who don't have excess money to spend.City parking as usual, so it's not easy to find.

Some people hate it. Some people are ok with it. Rarely do I meet anyone who absolutely loves it. But the haircuts are cheap and fast. A simple guys' haircut only costs 11 bucks, and comes with shampoo and rinse. Can't beat that price!

It's one of the closest hair cut places to Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus and only $11 to get a haircut. You go in (usually by appointment) and they wash your hair and then you get it cut. The quality isn't great, but you do get your hair cut. You're not paying that much, so you can't really complain. Just be very specific about the style and length you want your hair to be.

Tenpachi is a chic but fun little salon that offers good haircuts for cheap! Only $11 per cut and you are in and out in 15 minutes, which is great for busy working people and students and anyone else who would rather spend their time doing something other than getting a haircut. Their cuts are way better than at other salons at comparable prices (like Haircuttery). They do run on a very tight schedule and you will be turned away if you're more than 5 minutes late by their clock so it's best to get there a bit early.

PROS: Sylish haircuts for $11

My husband and I go here for haircuts, and we're always happy when we leave. Alisa always does a great job with my hair. The cuts don't take long, and cheap - just $11! One word of advice - don't show up late, even by a few minutes, because they only schedule cuts for 15 minutes. So if you're late, they may not be able to squeeze you in. Other than that, i have no complaints about Tenpachi!

A $10 haircut is hard to come by these days, and its nice to have a place close by to go when you need a trim. However, in terms of quality I'd just say that they are mediocre... I guess you can't really mess up women's haircuts that much unless you are going for a really special look, but guys haircuts!! All my guy friends who go there to get their hair come out looking the same.

My haircut at Tenpachi is one of the cheapest hair cuts I have ever gotten. However there is a reason for this. Though their prices are low, the skill of their stylists reflects that pricing. Only two of the several times I have gone there has my hair turned out the way I asked for it to be cut. Every single other time my hair was way too short. It seems that most of their styllists cut for speed and not quality. They try to cut your hair as fast as possible without taking into account the drop in the quality of their work. Of course this can't be said for all their stylists, but it is my experience after 4 years of going there.

I've been to Tenpachi 5 times, and each time I promised myself it would be my last. I go because they're so close, but every time I come out looking like a child attacked me with clippers. My hair always looks uneven and I always have to go home and trim long strands of hair that they missed. They don't even show you the back with the mirror. After 10 minutes, "All done. Next!"

Tucked away in a corner of a retail complex, Tenpachi is easy to miss but definitely worth seeking out. For just $11, Tenpachi's stylists can give you a great looking haircut in 15 minutes. The stylists' looks tend towards funky hairdos and tattoos, but their clients are everyone from local college undergrads to middle-aged businessmen. There's a blow-dry bar where you can dry and style your own hair--it's fun to experiment with the sample products. Coloring services are also available. I've had better haircuts here than at places that charge five times as much!

PROS: inexpensive, quick, talented stylists
CONS: industrial, no-frills atmosphere may not appeal to everyone

In the past I have had generally good experience with the Eastern Ave location of tenpachi. Tonight I had a 5:15 appt. I arrived at 5:23. I was late. Two stylists sitting in the chairs. No customers present. They asked me to reschedule because I was late and they had a 5:30 appointment. I told them to forget it.

If I arrived on time at 12:00 for an appointment and they weren't ready do they have to leave!! What would be my recourse? Absurd!!

This salon looks like a funky downtown salon with it's hip staff, exposed brick walls, hardwood floors & high-end products but it's shockingly affordable. Haircuts are $11, including shampoo; blow-dry & styling is extra. I've never been disappointed with them and feel like I'm getting a more skilled stylist & better atmosphere than from Hair Cuttery or another inexpensive salon. They also offer hair coloring/highlights. I highly recommend for people on a budget!
