Great range of foods..pretty good experience

by Kerian L.

This was on of the largest food malls i ever saw. I had a wide range of fresh food , and to my suprise caribbean food stalls , chinese etc..It basically was an international place where locals and tourist could go , hang out in the food court and enjoy delicious meals at reasonable prices. My only problem was that although it was a large area , it was always too crowded , and the stalls were too closely distributed. I felt as if I should be on guard and keep my bag close to me while I was there.

Everything you ever wanted, under one roof!

by Jan G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 11,086

Lexington market is a real treat to go to. Make sure you bring cash, as most merchants here do not take credit/debit cards. You'll find all kinds of produce, fresh fish and meats, and prepared foods. The prices are excellent - it is easy to get a great meal for under $5. The sheer number of stalls can be overwhelming, so take some time to wander around and look at all the choices - something is bound to make your mouth water. Take your meal upstairs, where there are tons of tables to sit down at. In the past, Lexington Market had something of a crime problem, but they've done a lot to clean it up, and it is a pretty safe place to go. I've eaten there many many times and have never felt unsafe.

All the seafood you can stand

by Kate E. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,751

Definitely check this place out if you are visiting from out of town. There are booths for practically every kind of meal imaginable, but the specialty is seafood. It's basically the only offering in the basement. All of the merchants are local, and it's a great way to support the city. The prices are much cheaper than eating at a sit-down restaurant, and there are lots of tables available. Kids and squeamish adults might find all the fish lying around to be a little gross.

Nice food choices but sketchy area

by Rebecca B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 10,999

Lexington Market is a food market in downtown Baltimore. I've only been in it once and that was enough! While they did have many food stands that looked like they sold wonderful fresh produce, meat, and international foods, the area is scary. There are pickpockets and thiefs all over and I hear it's riddled with crime. We (students at UMB) are warned not to go up there at night. Though grocery stores are lacking in the downtown area I'd personally make the drive out of town to shop instead of going there. However, during a weekday in the middle of the day it's probably ok.

A must-see

by Debra A. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,280

Lexington Market is an exciting place to visit - I always bring out of town visitors. It is alive with all kinds of people and dozens of vendors and shops. It's also a tiny bit on the scary side, as it is surrounded by a not so nice neighborhood, so I'd recommend only going in groups. You can get a real deal on produce and meat, or choose lunch from one of many great vendors.
