Highly disappointing!!!!! I had been looking for a Hip-Hop dance class for my 6 year old son. Found the Eleanor Pearnia Studio of Dance online. My husband called to inquire about the class and the lady on phone told him we could stop by and try a class to see if my son would like it.
As I entered the location a woman came out with a registration card; she handed the card and pleasantly told my son to take off his shoes and socks and join the group of children in the dance studio. The dance instructor was a young girl that appeared to be very unhappy about being there. She did not smile once and was some what harsh with the kids. I wasn??t impressed with the class at all and by the look on my son??s face he was very bored. I asked the woman about the prices and the length of the classes. As she explained to me that I needed to commit from September to June, she handed me a contract/registration form. Once my son got done with the class the woman rushed to speak to him and asked if he liked the class. I told the woman that I needed to try out another dance studio that was a little closer to my home and after that we would be making a decision. The woman got angry and said, ??ok then give me my papers back? as I did she began to walk away. I asked her if she would be keeping the registration card she had given me fill out earlier, her response was ??well yes, he took the class right??. I asked for the card back as I did not feel comfortable leaving our information with her after the way she reacted. She did allow me to erase my son??s birth date but did not allow me to take the card with me. Once I got in my car and asked my son if he really liked the class, he said ??no, it was boring. I just said I liked it because the teacher said she would be giving us a prize after the class, so I wanted the prize?.
As far as the facility itself, the place is in need of major renovation. It has wood panels, pale pink paint in some areas, dirty mirrors, area rugs that are an accident waiting to happen; they slide around when you step on them.
It is laughable that they have the following statement on their website;

??Our unique approach focuses on helping students learn in a fun and supportive environment where they can experience the joy of expressing themselves through dance.
We have professionally trained instructors that have a passion for the art of dance and experience in instruction. We constantly renovate and improve our facilities and provide ongoing training to our staff to ensure we are always providing our students and parents with the best experience possible?

Unfortunately it was not a fun and supportive environment, the instructor did not show a passion or expertise for dance and as you can see from what I wrote above the facility is not constantly being renovated, to the contrary it is quite shabby and in desperate need of renovation. Lastly they did not provide my son or me with the best experience possible.

I have two daughters who dance with the Eleanor Studio of Dance the oldest since 2005 and the youngest since 2006 and my entire family loves this place. We started off with Ms. Pernia and she has since retired and now it is run by Olga and we love it just the same. I have looked around at other studios since I live about 30 min from the studio but my girls DO NOT want to leave this studio they have so many friends and they just love their teachers.

Eleanor Pernia Studio of Dance is more than just a dance studio, it is a home away from home. My daughter started dancing there when she was three years old and having since graduated from high school know that some of her fondest memories come from my classes taken there. This is a great environment for kids to come learn the fundamentals of dance. I HIGHLY recommend this studio to parents looking to put their children in dance classes. The instrcutors are fantastic and well trained to teach students ranging from three years old to 18 years old. This studio truly is a diamond in the rough.

Two girls in my family have attended the Eleanor Pernia Studio of dance, although one has graduated and is no longer dancing. All together our family has enjoyed being a part of the Eleanor Pernia community for at least twenty years now. We have stuck with it when the studio experienced change. Some of our favorite assistant teachers graduated, but our new assistant teachers worked hard to fill their shoes. We've lost a couple of teachers, and then gained some. Friends moved away, but we still kept in touch. No matter who came or went, we always had our dancing.

A couple of years ago Ms. Eleanor Pernia decided it was her time to retire and sold the studio to a person she thought would be a nice fit for Eleanor Pernia. We all miss Ms. Pernia dearly, but the new owner Olga has introduced the Eleanor Pernia Studio of Dance to ballroom dancing!

Eleanor Pernia Studio of Dance offers many disciplines. It is important for a dancer to get to explore other kinds of movement such as ballroom dancing. Other classes offered are: kinderdance, jazz/hip-hop, tap, ballet, classical ballet training, lyrical, and modern.

Our teachers Olga , Jesi , Rachel and Marissa are all dedicated dancers and have been training in dance for many years. In our classes for younger kids, the teachers are trained to work with kids. They teach the kids the fundamentals of dancing, musicality, and even how to exercise and stretch safely to avoid pulling a muscle and any other exercise-related injury. The kids have fun and learn a tap and ballet dance to show off what they have learned during the year. The dance is then performed at the annual dance recital in June. Assistant teachers are dancers from the studio who are older and have had many years of dance training.

The Eleanor Pernia Studio of Dance Starstruck Competition Team has one outstanding awards. Compared to other schools, the competition is smaller in size, but our talent and choreography is so unique and so much fun. The competition team is offered to dancers at a certain age and when they have achieved a certain skill level. They must first go through a year of training in a lyrical and technique class before they can perform at competitions. The studio has been known to do some smaller performances such as at Beltsville Day, retirement communities, and more!

The studio encourages dancers to expand their knowledge. To take workshops for a type of dance they didn't think they would try. They want you to challenge yourself and by doing so, your dancing will grow so much.

I wish I could express to you in words how much of a joy it has been dancing at the Eleanor Pernia Studio of Dance. I have had such a fabulous experience. Every year I can look back and know I have improved as a dancer. I have made friends from dance that are some of the best friends I could ask for. I would definitely recommend Eleanor Pernia's to anyone looking to have fun dancing, get in a good workout, or persuing dance as a proffessional career.

Under new management since 2007 this studio has diminished in appreciation of young dancers and praise for their individual and group efforts. However, this lack of appreciation is not across the board by all instructors. The foundational instruction of ballet is very poor and this studio needs major renovation in it's ability to communicate on all levels.
