This place is absolutley horrible! Do not take your pets to him.

Used to work there for 5 months as an assistant and also took all my pets there before that.

I have saw the ins and outs of this place. It is very discusting throughout. Equipment is old and dirty, tools not sterilized well. He takes the animals off site to another vet's facility in Columbia for X-rays since he doesn't own an x-ray machine. Blood analysis is also done off site which is kind of scary seeing how long the turn around time is for you to know if something is truly wrong with your pet. He has a computer upstairs that is from the 1980s. It used to be the house they lived in when they first came to the United States-he is from Egypt so he has a different aspect or value system when it comes to animals. He is nice and friendly when you visit the he treats the animals horribly when you are gone. THere were these one kittens he 'rescued' that had worms and he was just giving them away like nothing was wrong with them. Another old lab was euthanized and I was trying not to cry myself when the family was there putting him down. When the procedure was done and the family was out of the room he demanded I drag the poor creature out into the back room put him into a black trash bag and into the freezer. No respect what so ever for these poor animals or their families.

Oh yeah,, and he killed my dog. He had arthritis of the spine and needed to take pain meds. Well he either prescribed them incorrectly or wasn't supposed to prescribe them at all because one night my dog started having back to back seizures. I took him to Dr. Oweis as an emergency visit that night as soon as it happened. He was there with other patients then he came to look on my dog as he had seizures right in front of us. All he did was tell me to hold his tongue out so that he didn't swallow it. He came back with a pole with attached loop to hold my dog's head out and shoved more pills down his throat. Made me pay and told me to take him home and that he should be fine now. I got him in the car and was driving back home when he started having another seizure. They were even worse this time. I was damned if I was going to take him back to that horrible piece of s**t vet again-hell no!!! I took him to a competent respectable emegency clinic with a good reputation. When I finally got there my dog had already had 10 back to back seizures. He was blind in one eye and his hind legs were not functional any longer. He also had brain damage from all of the seizures-we had to put him down that morning. I loved my poor baby and he should not have had to go out like that. He suffered so much because of this a-hole.

My mom said he got suspended again- I hope it stays that way so he can't ever hurt another animal again.

I hope he rots in hell- because thats what he truly deserves.

Several years ago, I left my sick - but still healthy-looking- cat at this horrible facility. They kept my poor kitty for 3 or 4 days, during which my phone calls garnered very little information. When I picked him up, he was dangerously thin! The man never told me my cat was not eating. My cat was misdiagnosed as being diabetic. (A competent vet told me shortly after that that tests showed no signs of diabetes.) I can't bear to think of the deplorable conditions in which my cat was kept when I left him at Beltway Animal Hospital. The place is unsanitary, the "doctor" has no professionalism, and he overcharges for his mistreatment of your animal. Read the positive reviews here carefully - they read like ads. (..."foreigners walking through"? Please! Dr. Oweis himself or a family member wrote that review, I think.) This vet's license has been suspended more than once. I think his atty wrote one of the few positive reviews. The negative ones are true.

Dr. Oweis is a very professional and good Vet. He is patient in answering questions about your pet and he is an excellent surgeon. The facility is not state of the art, but the care and treatment of the patients is good. I worked there for a year and personally walked, fed and cared for all of the boarders. I cleaned the kennels and washed dogs. All of the boarders and patients were monitored closely. The rates for service are much less expensive than the local competition because Dr. Oweis has a lower overhead in not having a brand new facility. Dr. Oweis has a small staff that is trained in multitasking. I do not know of a vet hospital that lets clients owners take a tour of the facility. First of all, we try to keep the the boarding dogs comfortable in a safe setting that is not disrupted by strangers walking through. The patients are vulnerable and recuperating and again, foreigners walking through recovery does not aid in keeping a safe and clinical atmosphere. The animals have varying temperaments especially while recovering from surgery and the less disruption, the better. We do not want to put them in a position of defending themselves from strangers while they are healing. The hospital has it's own food and it is difficult to take 'special orders" for feeding. They are fed a nutritional, balanced diet which is rather bland due to the fact that most animals are a little nervous in a strange setting and this diet aids in avoiding an upset stomach. Most of the staff here are college students who are working their first job. All staff is part time. The doctor is available by phone at any time. I learned so much about the care of cats and dogs while I was there and Dr. Owies taught me so many wonderful things about animal behavior and preventative therapy. He is very talented and his care of your pet is his primary concern.

If you want good care for your pet at a reasonable price, I would recommend The Beltway Animal Hospital in Catonsville.

I worked at this place for about a week in which he did not pay me....But he makes you feel as though he truly cares about the animals and that he is very knowledgeable. In my week long adventure of a nightmare here, he is very cautious about what he shows you, everything/everywhere is a big secret, i did paperwork for the first few days. I have worked in other Vets before and I do know what a surgery room should look like, although my gut said that the place smelled horribly, and everything was filthy i assured myself that he must have a sterile surgery room. My mother in law had informed me to be careful since he had lost his licenses a few times. The first time he invited me to the "kennel area", i felt like i was in a horror movie. It is in his basment that was completely creepy, bugs on the walls, feces all over the floors, and then there were these poor animals in filthy cages in which he demanded i clean them. I was glad to, since they haven't been tended to in quite some time obviously. After he went back upstairs, i just stood there and bawled my eyes out, My heart was broken for these animals and they do not deserve to be treated like that or to stay in that condition. they are not walked, they stay in there cage until they are picked up, yes they do all of the business in the cage. Horrified i was, i marched up those steps and expressed I would not be back or be apart of that hospital. I found out in Catonsville times that he was just suspended again 4-8-10 If you care for your pet do not take them to this hospital, i wouldn't.

My dog needed a operation on her eye. The vet was very low in price compared to others. The operation was a success however I ended up working at this place and only lasted a week because of the terrible conditions. Dogs are kept in a dark basement which is infested with fleas. Did obsereve a animal being nuetered while I was there and was shocked when no precautions were taken to sterilize operating table and animal was placed on dirty floor in front of box fan to recover. If you leave your pet here ask to see where they keep them . I promise you he won't let you see where they keep the animals. Very sad conditions!!

Here you will find an experienced veterinarian who is in the business because he cares about keeping animals healthy. Just call (410) 744-6660 and Dr. Oweis will answer. He will accommodate you and your pet at any time of any day; should you need him to come to your pet he will make a house call.

He will take the time to get to know both you and your pet. He will be thorough in his exam and watch for problems which your pet may be at risk. He will discuss options and concerns with you and give advice for the best treatment for your pet. He will provide a reasonable rate and will let you take time to make decisions. He will go out of his way if you express concern to make sure you feel comfortable with the treatment. He will be honest and professional. He is up to date with veterinary practices, epidemics, and breed specific illnesses. He has a sense of humor.

Successful Third Eyelid Prolapse (Cherry Eye) surgery and recovery within 24 hours from symptom onset and office visit, my pet is happy again. No more eye problems, no further treatment needed!

You can speak directly to Dr. Oweis when leaving work this afternoon and get your pets veterinary needs handled this evening!

Keep in mind he doesn't live there, call him and he will answer.

I took my dog to this god-awful place one time and it will definitely be the last time. When i first spoke to the doctor, he quoted me a price of 27.50, but if i let him give my dog the needed shots, the price would be reduced to 23.50/night for boarding. He was my last resort so i let my dog stay (the biggest mistake of my life). I couldnt understand him with his accent and when i asked him to repeat it, it seemed like he was getting upset with me. He took my dog in the back, after that i dont know where he went. The place smelled terrible, the conditions horrible. After my return a few days later, i picked my dog up and was totally disappointed. i rang the bell several times with no answer. He only answered when i called and it took him about 15 minutes to bring my dog out to me. My guess is that he was trying to hurry and give my dog the needed shots, which he gave my dog at least 7-8 shots which i didnt authorize. My black Lab was brown in color, smelled like urine and was in disarray. When i questioned the doctor, he became irate with me. I will never< evr take my dog to him again. Ever! If you love your dog, do yourself a favor and take your animal somewhere else. I know personally of at least 2 other people whose had bad experiences at this place and will not take their pets back again. If you do decide to go, please be cautious as well as careful.

Before I would let Dr. Oweiss practice medicine on my animals I would call and ask for a copy of his Public Orders from the Maryland State Veterinary Board. 410-841-5862

We have been taking our pets to the Beltway Animal Clinic for about fourteen years--both cats and dogs. They have all received excellent care. I have never felt rushed or get the feeling I was taking too long or asking too many questions. The downside of that is that at times I have had to wait quite a while because the people ahead of me have not been pushed out.

His advice on behavior issues has been very useful, especially because we have strays and rescues that take a little more effort. Prices are less than other vets, and we get the "stray discount." My daughter worked there.

I admit the building is unimpressive. However, while other clinics are no doubt more impressive, they are also very impersonal. Time is money.

My wife and I have been taking our four cats, two of whom were strays, to Beltway Animal Clinic & Hospital for about six years. Dr. Oweis, the veterinarian who owns Beltway Animal Clinic & Hospital, has been everything we could have asked for in a Vet. We fortuitously found him after being charged exorbitant rates for pet care at another clinic; after taking our pets to him for the first time (from all the way across town in east Baltimore), we recognized the concern and care he gave to them and we??ve stayed with him ever since. The care and nurturing he has given to our own pets is only part of the story. My wife and I love cats and we fed and cared for strays that arrived at our doorstep from the alley behind our house when we lived in Patterson Park, and we continue to do so at our new home. We have captured close to 20 of those strays and brought them to Dr. Oweis for shots and neutering or spaying. For all of them he offered us drastic discounts on his services because he appreciates what we are doing. For many of them he found homes. One of the cats had been in a terrible fight and we brought him to Dr. Oweis. The cat had to have his jaw wired along with needing a battery of shots and neutering. Dr. Oweis offered us a ridiculously low price for the care then nurtured the cat back to health. In addition, he found a home for him! We care for what we think of as a special-needs cat. She was traumatized as a kitten and as a result distrusts humans. She requires inordinate patience and understanding. Even today, though we??ve had her for five years, she won??t allow us to pick her up. We can only pet her. Dr. Oweis recognizes why she is distrustful and has treated her as if she were his own cat. We one time called him after 10:00 p.m. on a cold, winter, Friday night after capturing five kittens and her mother and he told us to bring them all in. He found a home for all of the kittens and spayed the mother whom we eventually cared for as an outside cat. My wife and I have boarded our cats during our move and when we??ve been out of town. We trust Dr. Oweis so much that when we made out our Will before traveling we specifically requested the lawyer include his name in the Will to look after our cats in case my wife and I met tragedy. My wife and I would trust Dr. Oweis with the keys to our house. His main concern is for the health and safety of all pets under his care at Beltway Animal Clinic & Hospital. Please call on him if you love your animals and only want the best for them.

Beltway Animal Clinic & Hospital is a fine place to take your pets. The care and attention we received when our cat was very ill was wonderful. In September, we required emergency care in the early hours and the doctor woke up to take our case. I had been to several other animal hospitals in the area before, and although this one was not the shiniest or newest, the care was exceptional. We had to leave our cat, but Beltway returned my calls daily (often more than once). When we could not be reached, they would leave a message and still try all my others numbers. The doctor took time explaining the illness and options with patience. And when I was worried about the cost (since previous hospitals had cost hundreds/thousands), the owner understood and worked with us to have substantially lower rates. In the end, the total cost was less than other hospitals had charged to merely diagnose and not even treat the problem. We have other cats which we will certainly take there again. Don't let the outside fool you -- the care is wonderful:)

Don't let the outside fool you -- the care is wonderful:)

It was Thanksgiving weekend and no other place had room so I left my cat here. The facilities, or lack of, looked very skeptical. It's an old house that looks like an animal testing lab. When you walk in, you are greeted by a man through a small window in the door. You cannot see anything that's going on inside. When you drop your cat off, they close them up in a backpack (okay), but you never see any other animals or where they are putting yours. They did not answer our questions satisfactorily. We left a container of food with him, but when we picked him up... it didn't look like much food was gone and he looked skinnier. When we grabbed a hold of him, he smelt like urine. Employees were not friendly. I would not recommend leaving your pet here, he's better off in the wild. I regret leaving my cat here.

Pros: n/a

Cons: can't see where your pet is kept, feels like they're hiding something, returned smelling like urine

Made arrangements to board dogs and when asked if I could see the facility before making the final commitment, I was told, "This is a hospital not a zoo! We do not do tours!" I stated that I had never been there before and merely wished to see the business, before committing and the gentleman answering the phone became very indignant and hung up the phone.

This exchange did nothing to provide me with the level of trust to leave my pets here.
