A family doctor for your pets

by Michelle V.

Doctor Blanken is an old-fashioned family doctor for your pets. He is quirky, however my pets have received excellent care from him and his technicians. He has treated my pets from their first shots through serious illnesses in their later years with compassion and kindness.

no compassion all about money

Don't take your pet there. my dog was dying and they wanted to charge me $800 for blood work to see what was wrong they knew he was dying. I finally had to put him down. They had no compassion for my dog.

Overcharges, vet is mean and unprofessional

by Alia N.

This vet is a very strange man. He is very rude and short with his techs. He actually said to his tech "Who was stupid enough to give treats on the table?" when my dog had crunched some cookie and left some on the table. It made the situation very awkward and embarrassing. When I asked legitimate questions about my cat and puppy's health, he replied with jokes and didn't take me seriously. I brought my brand new puppy in and I was charged $200 total for unnecessary medication and supplies for ear cleaning, medicated shampoo and a $30 bottle of vitamins! I would avoid this place if you really care about being active in your pet's healthcare.

Bad, Realy bad

by Mike J.

Really bad, the vet overcharged my dog for shots. He gave it some steridos and sent it home with some meds. The place is really really small. Only go there if your pet is about to die.

Real concerns about this Vet, very dissatisfied.

by Nancy P.

I took my dog up there because he was coughing and needed his shots. He was not allowed to get his shots due to his cough. The vet felt his neck and said nothing was wrong but gave me two prescription just in case. He cleaned his ears($15) and sent me home with more items to clean his ears.($39.50) I had to make another appt ($28) to get his shots. 18 days later my son took the dog to get the shots, even though he still had the cough, this time it did not matter about the cough, he got his shots ($120) and once again the vet had my son buy the exact some stuff to clean his ears($39.50) and another stool sample ($19). There had been nothing wrong with the first stool, I doubt anything has changed in 18 days. Now he wants us to see a specialist for the cough. While adding up the charges they did it wrong and overcharged by $15.50. Today my son returned the second set of ear cleaning stuff and was only given a refund of $36. not the $39.50 I was charged. I called to tell them about the overcharge on the bill and they want my son to stop by AGAIN to talk to the girl who did the work. Needless to say I have canceled his teeth cleaning with this guy and will not go back again. I am very upset at the lack of professionalism from this office and the amount of trouble I have to go to get my refund straightened out. The others in the office are kind and nice but not effective.Pros: noneCons: Dangerous,Expensive,Misleading and Poor Customer Service.

I was NOT impressed!

by Elizabeth S.

I am new to the area and I hadn't taken my cat to a vet in about 2 years. I took my cat to Catonsville Animal Hospital and was not impressed at all. My cat is very anxious and there was a dog in the area. The staff kept allowing the dog to come and sniff at my cat's carrier. Then, when I finally went in to see the vet, I was asking some very important questions to which he kept replying with jokes. I was unable to tell if he was joking or telling me important things that I needed to know about my cat's wellbeing. Needless to say, I will be taking my cat to another vet soon. I believe that my cat also picked up a respiratory infection while she was there. I do not recommend this vet.

Terrible Animal Hospital

by Mandy R.

I was new to the area and found this vet in the phone book. He gave me a very misleading price quote on annual check-up/vaccinations for 2 cats but that was the least of it. He ended up misdiagnosing and mistreating my cat.

I took my cat in b/c she had a very bad skin infection but was otherwise acting normal (eating, walking, jumping, etc.). The vet said he'd have to do the bath himself since the infection was so bad. He didn't believe me when I said it had spread over her whole body in 1 wk, which it had. He told me it was a staph infection that I'd just 'not noticed'(turns out it was ringworm). I can understand a misdiagnosis but he acted like there was no doubt when, in fact, there was. However, the worst part was that the bath he and his staff gave burst my cat's eardrum (I found out from the 2nd vet I hired). I didn't have any doubts b/c when I picked her up the receptionist/asst told me she was good for the bath but when they were cleaning her ears she went 'crazy.' That was odd behavior for my cat but at the time I thought it must've been b/c she'd reached her limit & was scared.

When I got my cat home and out of her box she couldn't walk, drink or eat (her eyes were flitting back and forth constantly) and she kept drooling. When she tried to walk she would fall over. At first I thought it was a shock-like reaction to being at the vets but the next morning she was even worse & I was sure she was going to die (I was very upset). CAH called me to 'check' on her later the next day and when I told them (tearfully) what was happening they denied having anything to do with the dramatic change in her condition and very unsympathetic. They wanted me to bring her in again & couldn't understand when I told them if I did that I was sure she wouldn't make (the stress of the trip would've been too much, besides by that time I'd become a little wary of this place).

Long story short - I was charged >$400 for them to permanently damage my pet (she still has balance problems), have them deny any responsibility & I had to force feed her for a month b/c she was too dizzy and unwell to eat or drink. Not to mention I was in tears for a 4 days b/c I thought she was going to die and I felt extreme guilt for taking her there.

The one good thing that came out of it was I found a wonderful vet who makes house calls. When I thought my cat was in pain & dying I began calling house vets to see who could come put her down. The first one who was available was was Bonnie Silverman and she has been wonderful ever since. She gave me hope for my cat & is much less expensive than the other vet. She didn't act like she knew everything but she was the one who figured out it was ringworm.

PROS: None

Great Animal Hospital

by Shobhna A. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,681

A friend of mine was staying with me, and brought along her 6 month old puppy. The puppy got sick one night, and we had to take him into the nearest animal hospital. The staff at Catonsville Animal Hospital were very accommodating and were able to calm my frantic friend down, and deal well with the sick puppy.

Old fashioned vet

by Anonymous

This is a one vet hospital that is strictly business. It is not the kind of place that will offer toothbrushing for your dog or cat. The facilities are not updated but the staff is friendly. If you are looking for a vet for your pet that is not your "baby" - this is your place.

PROS: No frills
