Insider Pages Reviews for Wise Penny

Ratings_icons Wise Penny is a hidden gem

Judy S.

Overall, a very cool little shop. They sell items from some Hampden boutiques as well as vintage items.. most of which I noted were damaged, though. But, still, (in the case of the boutique items) you're getting something brand new for half its original price. I ended up finding a few dresses and a scarf. My only complaint was the staff. I'm in my early twenty and, I guess, there aren't too many people my age that come into The Wise Penny? I was treated as though I had the plague.. no one seemed to want me around and it really made me not want to drop the $60 I did. When I went in the fitting room, some employee knocked on the door at one point and said, "Put your things back where you got them when you're done," and promptly walked away. When I went to pay for my items, the woman at the counter glared at me and walked away to help an elderly woman. I had to remind myself that they were probably volunteers and that the proceeds ultimately go to a cause. Despite the employees, this a great place worth visiting.

Ratings_icons Upgrade for the Wise Penny

Christina W.

Great deals, low prices! Some deals that this place has with local boutiques has resulted in an inventory upgrade for the Wise Penny. I got some amazing deals on designer clothes with the tags still on! Helpful and kind salesforce is nice too.

We donate all of our stuff to the Wise Penny and always end up buy something while we are there. You definitely have to take some time to look around but it is worth it because there are some really high end items there.

Ratings_icons Wise Penny thrift store - hidden gem!

Stephanie B.

This profits of this thrift store benefit the mission of the Junior League of Baltimore so everything you donate or buy helps the support the community of Baltimore. The store is currently operating at a temporary space across the street from the Senator theater while the old store gets a much needed face-lift. I have seen the drawings for the new store - the Junior League has them posted on their website www.jlbalt.org and it looks fabulous! Congratulations JLB!

The Wise Penny is a medium sized thrift shop that carries mostly clothing but also some housewares and books and toys. They have a toy sale every year (I think they save up donations) before Christmas that is very popular. The ladies are very nice. You can find some great bargains on quality clothing if you visit often and search the racks carefully. Also a great place for costume elements.

Ratings_icons Old school thrift shop

The Junior League of Baltimore runs this thrift shop, I believe. They've been here forever and it's always fun to see what turnsn up. Good place for costume elements, basic clothing, some stylish stuff if you luck out, and kids toys and books. There are some upscale neighborhoods nearby so they do get some nice donations. Stop in often to increase your chances of finding a treasure.
