Ratings_icons Not taking new patients... and a bit rude about it

l b m.

I called a few weeks back and they are not taking new patients. In fact, the woman who answered the phone was a bit rude about it... don't bother calling.

We've been going to Dr. Fusner's since before she started this solo practice. All three of our kids have received excellent care from her and Nancy Hoover, and I wish my general practitioner were as good as she is! The one negative reviewer clearly had a bad experience, but it is the exception to the rule. Also, to clarify, I think she DOES take new patients if they are newborns.

Ratings_icons Shocking – Indescribable how rude Dr. Fusner was

Amy T.

I am still shaking just thinking about what happened today in Dr. Fusner's office. Basically, one of the staff members made an appt for my daughter (who would be a new patient) over 1 month ago, but they are not accepting new patients, which I found out when I arrived at the appt. When I arrived, they told me that they couldn't find her chart and then asked me if I have ever been there. I said no and they said 'oh, you are the mystery patient.' They proceeded to explain to me that they are not accepting new patients, but since I am here, they will see if the doctor will see my daughter. Lucky for me, the doctor said that she would see my daughter. After 45 minutes of waiting, my daughter was called. The nurse who took my daughter's weight, etc, was extremely nice. However, when Dr. Fusner came in, she immediately began with - so I think you know that we are not accepting new patients, but since you are here, I will see you. Then she asked me if I just moved to the area because why would I need a new pediatrician, doesn't my daughter already have a pediatrician. I answered her saying that we did just move here about 1 year ago and I had a pediatrician for my daughter but I wasn't satisfied with her. She said 'WELL I DON'T THINK YOU WILL BE SATISFIED HERE EITHER.' Then she began asking me about my daughter and why we were there today. I was in awe of what I had just heard. I responded with 'Wait, why don't you think we will be satisfied here?' And she said that they are not accepting new patients and explained that situation in detail. And then she said that she is double and triple booking all of her appointments and that she can only spend about 10 minutes with her patients. Plus, she said, my daughter and I live TOO FAR AWAY, why would we want to go there, it is TOO INCONVENIENT for us!!! That is when I had enough I told her that it is not my fault that someone made an appt for my daughter when you weren't accepting new patients; that if she didn't want to see us, she should have told us from the beginning rather than make us wait not only a month but an additional 45 minutes in the waiting room after you were told we were here; that when I found her on my insurance website, the website says that she is accepting new patients; and that it doesn't seem like she wants to see us nor will she give her entire effort in seeing and treating my daughter, so I no longer wanted to be there and that I wanted my money back. She apologized and said that I could get my money back and she let me walk out the door. I went to the front desk and she told the people at the front desk to refund me the copay I paid. Not one of the people at the front desk acknowledged nor apologized for the situation, and not one person in that office acknowledged what I lost in all of this. For some reason, everyone there looked at ME and MY DAUGHTER as the guilty party, when we were just trying to see a pediatrician for an annual checkup.

Our family loves Dr. Fusner. She is kind, thoughtful, meticulous, and she truly listens to her patients and their parents. He staff is wonderful, we especially love Sarah (one of her technicians). We trust her to call us back immediately in case of emergencies, and she always gives calm and helpful advice. She has talked us through everything from childhood vaccines to emergency room visits to schooling choices. We have never had such a great doctor!!

Ratings_icons The best doctor ever

Dr Fusner and Nancy Hoover are the best health care practitioners we have ever met. They are prompt, clear, direct and have a very honest and respectful of the children, speaking directly to them in a kind and authentic way (not fakey baby talk the way some adults talk to children). They create a safe and supportive environement and made my children feel respected even when talking about difficult issues. they always call back immediately off hours with supportive, good advice. I have been going there for 10 years, can always get a convenient appointment, have hardly ever had to wait more than a few minutes, and have never felt that the staff are "rushed". Also, they have an open-minded approach. They are great for everday well child care, but have excelled at dealing with more difficult medical situations as well, and believe me - when it REALLY MATTERS, having a pediatrician you trust and who ALREADY KNOWS YOUR CHILD is an incredibly re-assuring experience.

Ratings_icons Dr Fusner rocks

Dr Fusner is outstanding. She has very quickly called us back, even in the middle of the night, when our child was sick and we were freaking out. She listens to parents' concerns, and supports alternative approaches. We are very happy to have her caring for our child. I have always found her staff to be friendly and helpful.

Ratings_icons Excellent Doctor -- Poor staff

Anonymous

Dr. Fusner is a brilliant peds physician with a caring attitude that surpasses the call of duty. However, her staff is often snippy and unhelpful. If I could transplant the doctor into a more pleasant and helpful environment, I would give her 5 stars. But, because I can't, it is only a 4-star rating.
