I had a very good experience with Fox Chapel Vet, but since they're not there anymore, where can I get my dog's records? Who do I need to contact? Or, is that not possible?

All the records are with Dr. Phillips at Peachtree Veterinary Clinic. You can contact them at 301-972-7010 to obtain your records. Thanks!

We took our dog to this vet and at first they were nice, and we liked the place. However, when our professional dog trainer recommended that we get a prong collar for our dog to help us control him, and we brought him to the Fox Chapel Vet Hospital with it on, they became cold and unfriendly. They discouraged us from using it and said it was cruel and inhumane. The prong collar didn't leave red welts on his neck like the Gentle Leader DID, it controlled his behavior, and he is now so well-behaved he hardly has to wear it anymore.

Also, when he had a seizure, they didn't have a clue how to help him. We had to take him to a canine neurologist to get good medicine for his epilepsy. After that we ditched them. Our dog is now taken care of at another vet hospital where the staff don't judge us for our choices in training collars and are knowledgable about simple diseases like epilepsy.

I wouldn't recommend this vet. There are plenty of other better ones around.

Dr. Phillips is the best! Before I adopted my dog I went in to Fox Chapel to get some info & ask some questions. I never assumed the doctor would take time to talk to me right off the street, but she did. She was so nice & informative. She told me all about the kind of dog I was getting & told me what to look out for, gave me some training recomedations, explained pet insurance, & vaccines. Since I brought my doggie home I've taken her to Fox Chapel for all her care & I've always been pleased. I wouldn't take her anywhere else.

I got my dog from a rescue, and Fox Chapel was gracious and kind and very willing to work with my dog since he was very shy. They did not do anything till he was ready. The best vet ever!!!

I was VERY happy with the care my cat recently recived at Fox Chapel. The hospital was clean & the people at the front desk were nice & knowledgeable. The docter we saw was very warm & honest. She was understanding of our finacial situation & didn't force anything on us. I will difinitly take my pets there again!

Our dog had been a patient of Fox Chapel Vet hospital for many years. When it changed ownership we took him to see Dr. Phillips and she was fabulous with him. He was 15 years old at the time and she was very caring and very knowledgeable. Dr. Phillips also followed up with us after an emergency visit to a weekend clinic. When we had to put him down she was so compassionate and gave us our options in a very caring way. We now have a new puppy and Dr. Phillips has been really responsive to all our concerns. I would HIGHLY recommend her!

Fox Chapel is the best. Dr. Phillips who has recently taken over the hospital got down on the floor with my dog and stayed there the whole visit. She took the time to discuss every question I had. The staff was so friendly and at no time pushed any services on me. The educated me on pet insurance which I had no clue about. I will never take my pets any where else.

Until recently, I have always taken my pets to Fox Chapel since the early 1990's. Unfortunately, there has been a BIG change since Dr. McKeown was forced out late Nov/early Dec 2009. Before then, Dr. McKeown (and other vets he had throughout the years, Dr. Laden, Dr. Amber McCoy) were absolutely wonderful. They really cared about their patients and the staff they had working there were also great. I couldn't imagine entrusting my pets to anyone but Fox Chapel. But a few years ago, Dr. McKeown sold the business because of health reasons, and then the original company sold again to a bottom-line profit only company. Dr. McKeown was forced out I'm sure because he wouldn't go along with their new focus (which was money) - on my last two visits they were non-stop in getting me to purchase flea and tick meds for my INDOOR cats....I have never had a problem before but they kept pushing. Then from Dec-April they had 2 other Vets leave this company. What does that tell you? Just last month, I pulled my cats out of Fox Chapel and have gone to another Vet. I really miss Dr. McKeown - he was a wonderful and caring Vet.

Thank you for your review Hi Brenda, Thank you for your review. I appreciate all feedback whether it is positive or negative. I am sorry you have left the practice. I have recently taken over at Fox Chapel and know a lot of clients were not happy with how things were going. I just wanted to let you know that we are a lot different now. I took over as Medical Director the beginning of May. I assure you that my goal is to take the practice back to the "good old years". I want to take in the bad reviews and use them to help guide me to create the best veterinary hospital for our clients. I encourage you to try us again and see if I can't change your mind about how things are now. Please feel free to contact me any time - by phone or email. Thanks again, Kathleen Phillips, DVM

Everyone should know: Dr Sandra Laden and Dr David McKeown are no longer with Fox Chapel Veterinary Hospital.
The changes that people have noticed are caused by the new management: PetWatch and St Cloud Capitol - an investment company.

I am a long, long, longtime client of Fox Chapel Veterinary Hospital (pushing 14 years now) and the truth about Fox Chapel is that Dr. McKeown and Dr. Laden (for whom this insider page is directed) are no longer therel. Dr. McKeown had to to sell the practice and retire for health reasons and the new owners, who are a bunch of financial folks (not vets), are the ones pushing for the higher prices and the nickel and diming. When Dr. McKeown was there, you got a warm and friendly face that you knew and he always waived this cost and that cost to help you and your animal -- not make a bunch of money. Dr. Sandra Laden was and is still a wonderful vet. I believe she's at a clinic in Silver Spring now -- do a Google search on her and you'll probably find her. I just hate seeing these two wonderful vets' names dragged through the mud when they aren't the ones who brought down this formerly wonderful practice -- they are the ones who built it into a great place to take my pets.

We have noticed a drastic change in this clinic in the last couple years. Everytime I call I get someone on the other end of the phone trying to sell me vaccinations, procedures and tests that my animals don't need. The last straw was when I called today for FVRCP vaccination for my kitten and I was quoted $53.50 for the office visit and $36.50 for the shot. I asked why the shot price was so much when I know of other vets in the area that charge about $10 less. I was told by Margaret that I could shop around if I wasn't happy. I use to be happy to bring my dogs to see Dr. McKeowan and his staff. But he has focused his business on money and lost sight of his four legged patients. His business might servive but it won't thrive if the only interest is in how much they can get into the pet parents wallet.

I needed a vet, and I searched for weeks, and then I went to Fox Chapel Veterinary Hospital. The first thing that made me want to use them is the way they treated my dog when we walked in. All of the six other places I went to acted like my dog was poison. As a pet owner who loves her dog, it was upsetting to have someone who is supposed to help you pet cringe away from them. When I took my dog to Fox Chapel, they were so sweet and friendly to her.
The staff was polite, knowledgeable, and treated my pit-bull very well.
They made me feel confident that my dog was going to get the best treatment possible, and she did. I have made them our family vet, and I strongly recommend this facility to ALL people that are looking for a vet.

I recently was in Fox Chapel on the same day as the woman that had the negative comment. I have to say that this lady is completely wrong. This hospital is FANTASTIC and will do anything for you and your loved ones. This woman was the irate and irrational one. The staff is so wonderful and very tuned to educating their staff. In my opinion this hospital is lucky not to have a client like that!

I would NOT recommend this practice!

I had very poor service at the Fox Chapel Veterinary Hospital. Two years ago, I took my dog to have his glands cleaned out and I was charged $18.00. I had a second charge of $18.00 because he squeezed the glands a second time! I changed vets. Two years later I was in a rush to get my dog's nails trimmed. I made an appointment. I also told them that my dog was not a regular patient there. I was told to have her shot records faxed over and I did that immediately. I showed up for the 5:00 pm appointment and the very rude and flippant girl that worked there said I was not put on the schedule and that I would have to be worked in. I asked how long, she said about 15 minutes. Since I needed the nails taken care, I waited as 3 more people entered the office and their animals were treated. I waited an hour until the place was completely empty of patients. The staff sat in the back talking. I got upset and said when were they planning on helping us. She turned her nose up at me, walked back to the vet. and then he came out and said we can't do your dog's nails because she is not a regular patient of ours! While I waited for everyone else to come and go, the untrained girl that worked there brought a dog out and said we could only trim 3 nails on your dog, and the owner needed to get a trainer to do it for her! Another man put his dog in the car and came back to pay the bill only to find out that he was being charged for rabies shots that his dog did not get and he had to bring his dog back in to get the shot. Another patient had a special offer for flea protection and the 2 office girls nor the vet could figure out the coupon! THREE errors in the time I sat there! Would you trust your beloved animal to these people?Check your bills carefully or they will double charge you for 1 procedure. That happened to me! The girls on the staff are not trained very well and are very immature and rude. It was the most unprofessional place I have ever been! I would not trust these people to do nails let alone something vital to the health of my animal! FIND ANOTHER VET!

I am very happy with this Vet, both doctors I have seen so far are very personable and answered all of my questions. I have been with three other places in the past and have not been as happy as I am with Fox Chapel. I just recently added another dog to my family and brought him to Fox Chapel as well. I stumbled across this vet as it is very close to my home and is open on the weekends. It's very clean and inviting and the staff is awesome, very helpful, friendly just outstanding!!!

I am a foster parent for a rescue group and have been to many vets in the Montgomery County area, and have never been more satisfied then when I came to Fox Chapel. I came to Fox Chapel by accident (they are open on Saturdays AND Sundays) and was beyond pleasantly surprised. Dr. McKeown immediately got eye level with my dogs and took a few minutes to get to know them and have them comfortable with him before he started any examinations. He has treated every animal Ive brought there like his own pet, not like a patient. He also spends a considerable amount of time answering questions and educating the owners on after care. When I adopted my dog, I started to bring her there even though I live 45 minutes away. When I have to have my dog there for a few hours, Dr. McKeown personally calls me himself to give me updates on her. The staff there has always been patient, pleasant, and informative when I have any questions. The facilities are very clean as well. The staff at Fox Chapel has exceeded any expectations I have ever had from a vet and recommend anyone in the Montgomery County area to take there pets there. I only wish there were doctors for humans as wonderful as them!
