best vet I've been to
I have had nothing but wonderful, compassionate care here. I have a 11 yr old diabetic dog who has been to 4 vets as the result of moving (and due to being HUGELY disappointed with Falls Rd animal clinic). The vets at Eastern are by far the most intelligent, practical, and honest group I've encountered. I deeply appreciate all they've done for me and to help get my dogs illness under control.

Unaffordable
I stopped going to Eastern due to their high costs and recommendations for costly tests and treatments. As an owner of several dogs I asked if they offered "multi-dog" discounts" and/or a break for clients who fostered for rescue organizations. They did not. While I found the veterinaries to be competent and usually friendly it is not enough to keep me coming back.

Charge premium prices for poor pet care!
We took our dog to board at Eastern for $25/night. I asked them to examine what appeared to be a growth on his eye while he was there. When I picked him up, it turned out that he had a tick, which they removed but charged me over $50 for an "exam." In the car on the way home, I noticed another tick on the side of his head - right out in the open - which they had not bothered to remove. I went back, hoping that they would remove it since they did charge me a premium for an "exam" that missed this obvious spot on the dog. After being greeted like I was interrupting two socializing receptionists, I was told to pull it off myself! I asked if they could show me how to do it, and was told that I could set up another $50 appointment to have it done. Please. These people have repeatedly tried to nickel and dime us with our animals, who we care about very much. They do not care about the animals, only about charging you as much as possible for every little thing they do. And don't touch the coffee in the reception area - it will cost you too! I will never go back. Please stay away from this place, which has consistently tried to rip us off. Try Light Street animal hospital instead.

I will not be revisiting.
After a normal first time set up and visit (new to the area, new puppy and new dog owner BUT not a new pet owner) I was not impressed with the staff at all. The doctors seemed rushed and too busy to answer the questions I had. The support staff was too busy talking about personal issues and rather inappropriate topics. (I am not uptight but body noises in a medical setting is a bit much along with boyfriend/pregnancy issues is not my business). My pup got her shots and the typical once over. The reception staff was spot on a should be commended. I will be calling to have my records sent somewhere else.

No Better Anywhere
I've been going to Eastern Animal Hospital for at least 18 years. Five dogs later I would still tell anyone - I wish the staff at Eastern could treat the human members of my family. Experienced and dedicated - they are worth every penny I've ever paid. In my opinion you won't find any better - anywhere. And, Dr. Estelle Ward is incredible...if she is your vet then you'll know what I mean.

our opinion
While I acknowledge that any Vet or an MD for that matter can have bad days, We feel that the negative reviews listed on this site are extremely wrong. We have been with Eastern vets for at least 10 yrs. and have never found anything that would cause us to consider changing care of our pets to anyone else. During the last 2 yrs. we have lost 2 cats and one dog to cancer. Eastern vets not only gave excellent care to our small creatures but gave my husband and I the support and caring that only pet owners would understand and appreciate. The vets and staff gave care to our "family" AND to us with a level of love that we wish our human docs would exhibit. The cost of care is equal to other vets in our area as well as that found in surrounding states. My sister lives in NJ and often spends more money at her vet for less care than we receive from Eastern. We are always made to feel that the folks at Eastern care as much about our "kids" as we do. Whenever our pets are terminally ill, the vets have always been honest about their condition, the care available, and what they would do if it was one of their pets. We have never been led down an expensive road just to make money, nor have they given treatment when they knew the outcome would be fatal no matter what care was rendered. Our pets have always been made comfortable with the understanding that tests, meds, and care, would not change the inevitable outcome. When the end came, euthanasia was given with love, gentleness, and sincere caring for us as well as our beloved pet. Our calls are always returned and our pets have always been seen even if we had to wait when no appointment was available. Although we have "favorite" vets, when our pet is ill all of the vets in this practice are excellent in their knowledge, caring and honesty. Dr. Kaufman has built this practice carefully and we have never had a vet that wasn't excellent. If you are honest with these docs, they will go to the extreme to make sure you and your pet will receive the best care available anywhere. Our only wish is that we would love to find "people" docs as qualified as this group is for animals. We are indeed grateful and feel blessed for having been fortunate in finding this level of care for our precious critters. Thank you for all you do !

over vaccinate and over charge!
i have been going to eastern animal hospital for four years and recently they gave both of my dogs rabies vacc when they were already current plus charged me for looking at cells aspirated from a lump on one of my dogs; however, i specifically recall the vet saying she couldn't pull anything out. So, what did she look at for $40??? Additionally, gave us the wrong dose for heartworm medication (like another reviewer wrote). Truly a very unimpressive clinic!

THEY ARE RUDE
I call to tell them my puppy 18wks is bleeding from the nose they tell me I have to wait two days for appointment. Then two days later they say give her medication. She gets sicker I call them back and they say time to put her down. They kill my 20wk puppy for a nose bleed in stead of seeing her that day. Then they yell at me saying I should have known she was about to die. I will never go there again. My collie is 9yrs I never had to put him down due to nose bleed. Not only that they are dirty dirty people. I WOULD NEVER GO BACK!!!!!!!!!!

Overdose due to Incompetent Staff
I have been going to Eastern Animal Hospital for five years, taking my bunnies, dog, and bird and my in-laws have taken their animals as well. In the past 3 years, we have had 3!!! animals overdosed on medication. My bird was givien quadruple the dosage that he should have been given on antidepressants, causing him to seize and do other odd things. We really thought that we would lose him. The problem with feather plucking was never solved and all that I got was an apology, not even new dosage instructions! I should have stayed away after this incident. But a year later, my in-laws 3 month old puppies were given the wrong dose on Heartworm medication!!! How hard is it to give the correct dose when it is written on the box?? We would have noticed it but it was covered over by the label. I am through with this animal hospital. I can only imagine what is happening to other people's animals there. I wish them the best of luck. If you care for your animals, please heed my advice!!

Kind and patient
My cat does not routinely go tot he vet-I have brought him twice in 11 years. Most recently I took him (8/22/06) for a stomach problem. Since he was scared, staff permitted us to wait in a vacant exam room, so the other animals would not spook him. Although the vet could have recommended a million tests, etc. she recommended some fairly simple remedies-which worked. Also, I was not lectured on being a bad pet owner for my lack of vaccinations, etc. nor for my feeding him 9-lives as opposed to Science Diet, etc. I went into the appointment braced for someone to make a sales pitch (for vaccinations, pet food, procedures), but they were honest and kind throughout the visit. They were affordable-$45 for an exam and for a senior blood panel, I think I paid $130. I would recommend Eastern Animal Hospital without reservation.

Lovely
It's wonderful to have such nice and friendly vets and assistants. The vets at the Eastern Animal Hospital always do a fabulous job and they take care of the pets wonderfuly. They are not expensive at all. They cost just about the same as any other animal hospital out there right now.

Like Family...
It's so nice to know that someone loves your pet almost as much as you do! I had to switch vets because the old one overlooked a severe ear infection in my newly adopted greyhound. I had heard from another greyhound owner that this was the place to go, but I was not expecting to find such a wonderful place. My dog was having joint problems and instead of going for the most expensive, drastic approach he opted for a less expensive and less traumatic for my dog and it worked wonderfully! He really spent time with my dog and getting to know him and thoroughly checked him over and tried to find several options to treat him. It is a great feeling to find a vet you are so comfortable with. I feel lucky that I went to them!

Eastern Animal Hospital - 24 hour Supervision
When a stray showed up at our door, threatening to have kittens on our front step, we took her here. Making an appointment was painless and easy and we got one within the week. The price was very reasonable and the Vet's and staff were very helpful. The doctor was asked when were could expect to see the kittens and her estimate of, "four days" was right on the money. Four days later were were presented with five adorable kittens, who will all be going to this vet. They provide 24 hour supervised care if you have to leave you pet overnight for some reason, the animals are never left alone. That all by itself would be enough reason to take my pets here and not somewhere else.
