Ratings_icons Mary's is a Lifesaver

nikki w.

I thought that I would be very smart, save money and buy my wedding dress online. Well let me tell you about the fiasco!!! The dress came in 2 months late, 2 weeks before my wedding, not the color I ordered, not the material I thought it would be, not even close to fitting me. It looked Horrible. I took it to a seamtress( what a joke) who said she could fix it. Right- totally she just made it worse if possible. Before all of this my best friend had told me to go to Mary's Bridal to get my dress. What a fool I was to not have listened to her. 10 days before my wedding I walked into the shop. I was treated like a princess. I met Mary who talked to me about what I wanted and what I wanted to spend and then she found me the perfect dress. She had it tailored to me and I walked out of the shop 3 days later with my dream beautiful sexy dress and feeling on top of the world. Mary's is great I rate it 5 stars.

The moment I walked into this boutique my heart was pounding I was so excited. The place is overwhelmingly beautiful. The dresses are on maniquins which is so helpful to see what they are really like instead of in crushed bags like a lot of the places I went to before I came to Mary's. The people here are friendly and know what they are doing. After talking to Mary for a while- she found me__________________ my dress__________Just like that.
I felt like a bride for the first time in my search. My mom and sister and even my brother cried. They said it was me and it was. I love my dress and highly recommend this store.

My wedding gown experience has been frustrating. I have been to 2 other shops & tried about 9 gowns & all of them were like-able but not wow! I came to Mary's Boutique just to look around. I found a lot of new information, such as how many colors of white there are, the difference between having a built in bra. Mary was wonderful & very helpful. I felt great in the dress I tried on, & I'm sure the one made for me will be even better.

Ratings_icons Mary's Bridal RUINED my wedding experience

Kristi P.

From the moment I walked in the door, my bridal experience was ruined. I had been looking for dressed for months and had been to several other places not to mention tried on many other dresses. I went prepared and looked at all the designer's that Mary's advertises on her page. I took a long list of dresses I wanted to try on and gave it to Mary. Instead of letting my try on any from the list, she pushed three of her designs on me and would not offer me anything else to try on. She completely ignored the price range that I gave her and instead focused on how big my engagement ring was. Instead of me telling her what I wanted, she told me what I wanted. She degraded her staff, specifically the seamstresses, in front of me in addition to other customers. She charged me double the cost for what veils are, she charged me one-hundred dollars for the shoes that I got than what other retailers charge and essentially BULLIED me into a dress. I am not three months away from my wedding with no dress. Because she was so rude and over powering, my fiance and I started to work with Lisa who, while not as over powering as Mary, was still very rude. They shattered my dream of having the perfect wedding dress. As I met other brides, I heard more and more stories that were similar to mine. It makes me sick that other brides, in addition to myself, have had their experiences ruined by someone that cares more about money than about the most important day of others lives.

Ratings_icons HORRIBLE -- JUST PLAIN HORRIBLE!

Catherine P.

Attention Prospective Brides: Just read the other reviews and take warning about this place. You will be treated like crap. You won't get to see dresses you want to see. You will be totally disrespected. I am speaking from firsthand knowledge. I went in....met Mary herself...she was rude and condescending and wouldn't let me even browse the store....but I clearly saw that she sells known designer gowns as her own. I was prepared to spend up to $6000 for my gown alone! She totally ruined the sell because of her attitude. I believe the positive reviews left here are ABSOLUTELY fake!!! I don't know how this woman stays in business.

Ratings_icons Please take my warning - do NOT buy your dress here

Dana F.

Whether you choose to read this entire review or just the first sentence, my point is that you should NOT get your dress from Marys. I did, and I wish that I had read more reviews and taken them more seriously. Please notice the number of VERY low ratings this store has received: it has received those ratings for a reason. The level of customer service is deplorable. Mary is one of the most condescending and pushy people you will ever meet, and has set this tone in her store. If you are shopping for a wedding dress, you deserve a better experience than coming to this store, and having to deal with their condescending ways during your dress-buying and fittings! Do not let this store spoil what should be a wonderful experience for you!
Major things to note: you are given a questionnaire when you come in for a consultation and the store attempts to select a dress FOR you (when I asked to browse the store, they looked at me like I was crazy- however, I ultimately picked my dress on my own from their racks); you have to pay for your dress up front, which you do not have to do in other stores; they claim to carry dresses by several designers but then really only have their custom dresses, which may or may not be designers with the labels taken out; they will question you about where you are getting married, and where else you went to look for dresses, and then proceed to bash every single other store you name (they really need to get over themselves); they will talk to you, your mother, your sister, your best friend, or anyone else you bring with you, like a piece of meat and like a total idiot; they will TOTALLY overcharge you for their shoes and hand-made jewelry which they push on everyone (check online before you buy any shoes there- they sell them at 3x retail price. At least I was smart enough to see that the jewelry was nothing special and not worth their prices.) However, I was new to the area, had not heard the bad reviews of this place yet, and it was the first store where I found a dress that I loved. So I bought my dress there, thinking I could put up with the people since I really wanted the dress.
In the course of going for my fittings, I witnessed the terrible and pushy way Mary and her staff talk to customers in the store (as if not just anyones money is good enough for them). Since my dress was coming along nicely, and I was mostly helped by Dorothy (seemingly the only associate in the store with a heart), I was happy enough. On the day that I was supposed to pick up my dress two weeks before the wedding, they brought it into the fitting room with a huge alteration that I had not asked forthey had accidently turned it into a deep, pointed sweetheart necklinesomehow the seamstress had misunderstood which dress was supposed to be modified (it was NOT supposed to be mine!) This was a stark contrast to what my dress originally looked like, and I was obviously upset. Despite their obvious error, not a single person there apologized to me, or offered any consolation; instead they acted like it was somehow my fault, and when they saw that I was getting upset and breaking out into a rash from the anxiety, one associate (Lisa I believe) actually had the nerve to suggest that I should have it checked out by a doctor! They assured me that Mary (who was not there at the time of the fitting) would be able to fix the dress in the next few hours. When I returned, Mary hastily put the dress on me without ANY apology, and tried to pass it off as good as new. Though the dress mostly resembled the original design, the fabric at the top was partially ruined from being sewn, torn out, and re-sewn. The dress never looked the same, the fabric did not lay as well as it once did, and it still bothers me that I can see it up close in my wedding pictures. Though it was not noticeable to most, and my wedding was otherwise a wonderful and happy experience, I have regretted ever going to Marys in the first place. I also regret not insisting that they further repair the dress considering the price I paid for it and the obnoxious customer service that I had put up with. I suppose that at the time I was just relieved that they had restored it to what it was (almost) supposed to look like.
In summary, I regret that I gave this place my money and subjected myself, my mother, and my best friend to this terrible, negative place. I wrote this review because I want to reach at least one other bride-to-be and spare them from these same regrets. I have no idea how Marys is still in business, and seriously question the authenticity of the positive reviews on this site. Please take my warning you are a happy bride at such a great time in your life- and you will find a perfect dress somewhere else- do not subject yourself to Mary and the horrible experience you will have in her store.

Ratings_icons Worst Bridal Store I have Visited

Shira L.

The staff was condescending and rude. I sat down with Mary all excited and was pretty much told to sit there and she would decide what I would try on. I was treated like trash. Mary herself told me that she would bring a dress from the warehouse that I wanted to try and then did not bring it.

I also witnessed Mary being incredibly rude to another customer, who was looking for her prom dress. I almost wanted to step in because the girl was by herself and she looked like she was about to cry.

I would never recommend this store to a bride or anyone else looking for a dress.

Customer service doesn't exist. Rude sums it up. Comments were made about other customers in dressing rooms being larger. They were not helpful when asking to order directly from the designer. Their prices were 100 to 200 dollars higher than other local stores and extremely overpriced alterations. Would never set foot back in the store and will discourage anyone mentioning visiting there not to!

Living in New York City and working in fashion, most people assumed I would be searching for a dress in Manhattan. I came to Marys after learning about her reputation, and fell in love with one of her newest custom designs. This is a gown I couldnt get believe I was able to find a dress that is so ME, and now Ill have a little piece of Annapolis in my New York City wedding. Thanks to Mary and Penni for all their guidance and personal attention.

Ratings_icons Mixed Feelings

The appointment begins with a series of questions about location, budget, and where you have shopped before. My answer, "a few places" was not sufficient - they wanted names of all the stores that I had been to. During this questions, the salesperson (Penny) was rude and made me uncomfortable.

I wanted to try on a few dresses and browse, but you are not allowed to look at the dresses yourself. They select them for you. The gowns are gorgeous and they really know how to pick dresses for your shape. However, I felt very pressured to buy the dress that I liked. I did buy it, but mainly because of the pressure. They told me I had to buy now because it took 4-6 months to make; yet, they scheduled my first fitting for 2 months after purchase.

They are knowledgeable and know their business, but I feel like they are not honest and forthright. This is not a place to go to browse and have fun - go only if you are prepared to purchase.

Ratings_icons DO NOT EVEN ENTER THIS SHOP!!!

T N.

I went into Mary's and I didn't want to try on a dress as I had lots of time (1 yr+) to find a dress. I was fortunate to have no budget limit and, so, I was determined to have the dress I wanted no matter the cost. Well, the treatment I received for browsing was over-the-top rude. I wouldn't have bought a gown there no matter how much I had loved it. First, Mary approached me and gave the clear indication that she didn't like browsing. Secondly, she asked too many personal questions for the purpose of determining if I was worthy to shop there. Third, I was stunned that she was selling known designer gowns under HER name. The designer tags had been clipped out!! (How can she do that?) I even said that one of the dresses was the same as the picture I had with me to which Mary replied her dress was a better quality. Trust me, it WAS the same dress. I knew then that this place was not reputable. The good thing was I that learned how not to be treated. I later visited several other shops and was welcomed graciously at each one. I told the other shops about Mary and the dresses she claimed as her own. They said they had heard it all before. I found my dress and Mary's really missed out on my purchase. Prospective brides....do NOT go to Mary's! Waste of money.

Ratings_icons Beautiful dresses, rude and pushy service

K L.

I made an appt here... First thing they did was ask when and where the wedding was, lectured me because I wasn't there a year in advance... second thing they told me was that my budget was way too low and told me alterations cost $750!!!! Then although I wanted to see Maggie Sottero dresses put me in 4 "Mary Couture" dresses. They also told me a Maggie dress was way out of my price range. Since then I have looked around and found many great Maggie dresses for $500 - $900. Anyways, I wasn't wild about any of them (saleswoman never even asked me what style I liked). The dresses do look beautiful and fit well, but for $1400 they had better! Bottom line, they stressed me out and gave me such a negative experience I didn't buy a dress here. It was a VERY stressful, the opposite of what I wanted!!

Ratings_icons Blown away!

Kirsten J.

I am from Oregon. Here for a week with my fiance on business. I have been on a mission to find my "dream dress" for some time. I went in to Mary's bridal on a Wednesday. There were two lady's working. I was asked a series of questions. Mostly the date of my wedding and what I was looking for. After the 3 or so questions I started to browse. The two women were talking amongst themselves about a customer that was just in the store. Very rude things were being said. I wasn't spoken to again. They were not busy at all. I realize they are appointment only but being that there books seemed to be open you would think that they would have offered to help me with a dress. I would say this had to be the worst experience ever. The reviews I have read seem to be not real at all. It's hard to know what to believe. I would say to anyone who planned to visit Mary's. Give it a try and see how you are treated personally. My experience although was awful. Good luck to all.

Ratings_icons HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

Christina C.

I will say when I walked in I was pleasantly surprised ( considering it was in a strip mall) the decor was beautiful and I was expecting amazing service. BOY WAS I WRONG.... I called earlier today and wanted to know if they had three Maggie dresses that I am really interested in. When I called they said they couldn't answer that right now and that they had to call back when a available sales person was in? I guess she just answers phones.. Of course they never called and never mentioned that you needed a appt. So I was coming from Towson and was going to be in Annapolis with my Mother and figured I could just drop by. I guess that's unheard of at this " posh boutique". You would think because there was not a sole in there they would be happy to accommodate me. Not at all, the girl at the front was rude and said that it takes days to get back to follow up because they have to look through there inventory. When I said I still wanted to try on dresses they made me feel like I was interrupting. It took them 30 minutes to even be seen because the one consultant was across the street doing whatever. Finally she asked me what I was looking for and I told her the style dress and shape. I was expecting her to grab dresses that fit that description and try her hardest to find me "the dress". Instead I walked around and pointed at dresses on manic ans, I wanted to try one on and she said it was to old for me and that it wouldn't have looked good. So I picked about 4, I put the first one on and it was a very pretty dress but I still wanted to try the others. The second one I hated so I was waiting for the third and she said thats all she had. Then she said she wanted me to try the first one on again but I wanted to try on more than 2 dresses. Also, I told her I like Maggie Sottero and she didnt even show me where they were or even suggest her dresses. It seems like they push there designer knock offs that they charge double the price for. Bottom line, this is supose to be a pleasant moment that you will remember for the rest of your life. They definitely dont give a lasting immpression and dont care that they dont either. If your looking for a great bridal store that sells "real designer" dresses I would highly reccomend Juliets Bridal near Towsow. I went there first and fell in love with a dress and wanted to shop around to make sure. I will be buying my dream dress from them! I hope this is helpful!

My fiance came back so frustrated that I (at some point when all of this madness clears) will be personally be visiting Mary's. If she was treated 1/10 as poorly as she described, Mary's shouldn't be in business. I agree with the earlier comments that this blog is being padded by insider positive comments.

Brace yourself! Nobody (and I mean nobody) should be treated like that. And I want to be looking directly into our eyes while you are explaining to me why you think you can treat anyone like that.

Because they helped me put together my dream dress. and I am a hard sell because I work in retail and know the ins and outs. Still they wowed me. and the whole purchase came in under my budget
It helps that they seem to love what they do and it shows.

I wish I would have read these reviews when I bought my dress from Mary's. I felt the same way as everyone else there. She kind of pushes herself on you. At least I can say that my dress was custom because I designed my own dress from scratch so they had to make me a custom dress. When I went in I wasn't expecting to have to pay right on the spot the same day. I think I might have gotten ripped off since I wanted a Mantilla as my veil it cost me 1300.00 and the dress 2500.00 then she convinced me to buy the tiara and earrings she supposedly made and that cost me 600.00. I really feel horrible about this. I will definitely be selling all the stuff I bought there. I was new to Annapolis so I really didn't know the area. Don't go here unless you want to pay an arm and a leg.

Um, first of all, it really looks like someone from Mary's is stacking up positive reviews about the store here under different names. Has anyone else noticed that the majority of positive Mary's reviews sound the same and have the same weird, random capitalization sprinkled throughout?

Anyway, all you really have to know about Mary's is that they cut the tags out of the gowns they buy and replace them with their own. I assumed they did this to stop comparison price-shopping, which is bad enough. But I'm also hearing complaints about "Mary's" designs looking suspiciously like "Other name-brand designer's" designs.

Expect a lot of intrusive questioning about where you're having your reception and so on (so they get a feel for how much they can milk you for). They will demand a price range. And don't expect to browse for dresses -- they'll bring you the ones they want to sell you.

If you want you dress shopping experience to be just like buying a used car, go to Mary's.

Ratings_icons I wouldnt go back there

I had called Marys earlier in the week regarding a dress I'd seen online. They were the only store with it in a size I could try on but they were 45mins away. I happened to be in the area that friday and dropped in with the hopes of trying on that one dress.

Admittedly, I had no appointment. Walking in, it was a while before anyone acknowledged me. When Mary eventually did, I explained that I didnt have an appointment, I just happened to be in the area and was hoping to try on that dress. She informed me that I couldnt without an appointment and that they stored dresses in a separate studio so the dress would not be there. I asked her to please check and that I would wait. Eventually Dorothy was assigned to help me and guess what, the dress was there.

Marys removes all designer labels and the dresses have no prices on them. No clue why. They are also very concerned with which bridal salons you have shopped at? The dressing rooms are large and spacey and they provide you with a robe which I though was nice. The dress ended up not fitting me well but the lady was not very honest in giving her opinion and was more pushing the dress on me.

They have a nice selection of dresses but I wouldnt go back there..ever!

Ratings_icons Shopping at Mary's was a Huge Dissapointment

Meghan M.

Being new to the Annapolis area and having recently moved from the Houston area I was looking for a bridal shop to see more gowns before making a final decision on a gown I liked in Texas. I called Mary's to make an appointment and asked what their price range was. I was told $1000. This is a couple hundred over my budget, but I wanted to look and see what kind of dresses are available here vs in Texas.

Once I arrived I was greeted by Dorthy and we discussed what I was looking for. I told her my budget was about $800 and that there was another dress I was considering and that I wanted to do some more shopping before I made the final decision. This seemed to irritate her and she promptly told me that dresses started at $1200. She then quarantined me to one section of the store where I could "afford".

When I asked about the other sections of the store she just waved me off without me even looking. Her attitude was poor and dismissive towards me. She also treated a co-worker, who appeared to be the seamstress, disrespectfully in front of me. This whole experience was very hard, being away from home and not having the support of family or friends.

I felt very disrespected as if my measly $800 budget for a dress I will wear one day for a few hours is some kind of offense to such a fabulous establishment. It must be nice to be someone on an unlimited budget where you can pay for respect at Mary's. Anything less that $1200 obviously qualifies you as a lower life form.

Ratings_icons Don't waste your time

Yes, Mary's has a large selection and they might have that dress you saw in a magazine, BUT Mary doesn't want you to buy another designer's dress. She wants to make you a dress or sell you one of hers. My mom and I went in recently and after picking out the ONE dress I wanted to try on Dorothy brought me 7 others that weren't that one. Every time I asked about trying it on she told me she would be right back with it, but she never brought it back. After trying on several dresses I had no interest in it became obvious that my mom and I were about to leave, which is when Mary stepped in. She insulted Dorothy while I was standing right there, and continued to complain about Dorothy while I changed out of my dress. Dorothy was so nervous that she started dropping things and knocking stuff over. Mary then consulted with me about what I thought the perfect dress would be and promised to bring me the dress of my dreams- far from it. I explained that it was nothing like what I had asked for (Aline, lace), at which point Mary argued with me that I hadn't said anything about A line or lace.

Aside from those things, I made two appointments at Mary's and both times they either had the wrong time or didn't have it at all. The staff treated my mom like some little old lady telling her "now mom you sit right here and don't move" in the most condescending tone and wouldn't let her into the dressing room with me.

While we were there another bride had traveled 2 hours to see a specific dress that she had called about and was told was there. Much to her surprise and her mother's (who had traveled from out of the country) they didn't have the dress.

At the end of 3 hours, I never got to try on the dress that I wanted to and I only got a vague understanding of what the prices of her dresses are since they can't be priced until you order it. I've canceled my second appointment after reading the reviews on here, which is good because when I did they had me down for an appointment for a fitting and to put money down on a dress I didn't want.

I still haven't bought a dress, but I highly recommend Distinctive Design Bridal in Rockville, they were great!

Ratings_icons Awful Experience

I saw a gown while browsing online that I absolutely loved, but knew it was probably a little more than I wanted to spend. The closest shop to me that carried the dress was Mary's Bridal. I had been warned not to shop there by a friend who had been several months earlier, but I really wanted to see that dress. I don't recall there being price tags on many of the dresses. They did have the one dress I wanted in stock, and of course there was only one. I am a size 6 and this dress was a size 14. Mary said she'd check the distributor to see if there were any in my size available, and of course, she said there were not. She told me that the dress had been discontinued (according to the original ad I saw, it was new that season) but she could tailor the dress down for me. I asked how much that would cost, and she told me that she could not give me a definite price, but that most brides spend about $750 in alterations! However, since it was the floor model and not available in my size, she could give me a substantial discount. I told her that I'd have to think about it and that I was not interested in any of the other dresses that she was trying to push on me. I then went home and called the distributor to see if I could order directly from them. I found out that the dress was NOT discontinued, and the so-called discount that Mary was going to give me was well above the minimum price that stores could sell the dress for. I went back into the store to confront her and she stood by her statement that the dress had been discontinued. She also kept telling me how long she'd been in business, and what a large shop she has on the eastern shore, and how she is such a priemier wedding dress maker and distributor. I ended up buying a different dress that I loved, spending A LOT less money, and the only tailoring/alterations I had done was the bustle, which I think cost about $50.

Ratings_icons This Shop Is the place where Wedding Dreams Come True

joni s.

I did not like any dresses that I saw at any of the 15 bridal shops I went to to try on dresses. Then i went to Mary's Designer Bridal.
These people know wedding dresses and within 10 minutes I found the dress of my Dreams. and I didn' t even have to go thru racks of dresses to find it. One of the consultants there asked me to have a seat because she was with a customer and said she would ask the owner Mary to help me until she was available. Mary talked to me for 10 minutes asking all kinds of questions about what I liked and where my wedding was being held and so on, and after that said that she had just the perfect gown for me. and guess what SHE DID.
It is so Beautiful I cried. It is Perfect just what I had dreamed of. No one ever took the time or effect to ask me what I wanted and I am so thankful for this shop. the are really nice people and I highly recommend them especially the owner Mary who really knows about dresses.

Marys Bridal is the nicest, most professional bridal shop I have ever been in. They took the time to help me find the PERFECT dress. I had a lot of people tell me to go to Mary's , but I thought I had to go to Davids. and boy am I glad I went there first so that I now know why everyone said to go to Marys;. They know their Stuff. They helped me to pick out the perfect dress from the zillions that they had in their shop. Please do yourself a favor and go to Mary's

This experience was a wonderful one for me. I went in as Mother of the Groom and just couldnt find what I thought would look good on my body frame. Almost in tears, the owner Mary told me she had and idea and pulled the "perfect" dress for me. By the time Mary was done fixing me up I looked like I had lost 20-30 pounds and 3-4 inches thinner. Again the tears, but this time tears of joy. I would Look great because of the attention she gave me. The customer service was also excellent, Always checking to see if I needed anything. And dont forget to check out the beautiful bridal gowns, wow they are excellent.

Ratings_icons I came out of the store in Tears!

This was the worst experience i have had with bridal gown shopping every! I had never been treated with more disrespect and rudeness ever! I went to the shop with my mother, and two of my bridesmaids. When the sales person, Dorthy, found out my budget which was around $800 dollars she said to me in a snotty way, "Well, our gowns start at 1,200" and i looked at my mom and said we can probably work around that if i find a dress i really really like. Then she asked me if I went to other bridal stores and if I liked any of those dresses. I told her I went to one and I really liked one of the dresses I tried on. DOrthy insisted on knowing the price of that dress (which was none of her business) and said it was not the right dress for me if i did not buy it on the spot. I told her she was worng and that it was the first bridal store I went to so I wanted to shop around at other places before I bought a gown. As I was looking at gowns, she was not helpful. The gowns were not arranged by size like most bridal shops ( i personally, think they are arranged by price)..then she randomly told me that alterations are 700 dollars! Which I know for a fact that that is a bunch of BS and way over priced. I could not find any dress that i liked and so i showed her a picture of a Maggie Sottero dress i really liked. She told me that they had it in the back but i could only try it on if I was willing to pay for it, and the dress was $2,500. One of my bridesmaids said, "So how is she suppose to know if she likes it on her if she does not try it on?" Dorthy said, "she has to be willign to pay for it first" At that momment i told my mom and friends i wanted to leave and this was ridiculous. I left in tears becasue of the way I was treated. My friend went back in the store and started telling off Dorthy, but Dorthy cut her off and got Mary (the owner) Mary tried to come up with excuses and said all 4 of us misunderstood her. But my friend kept going off on Mary. Then Mary asked me to come back into the store so she could appologize. I accepted her appology but told her I would never come back again. I know that these Maggie Sottero gowns are being over charged because I have shopped at other bridal stores and the price for that 2,500 dollar dress was actaully only 1,600. Looking for dresses is suppose to be a happy time, not a high pressured sales time or a time to be treated rudley. It is not even about the price, it is about the way the treat customers. If i had tried on the dress and loved it so much then i would have happily paid for it, but not after being treated like crap.

Ratings_icons If you can ignore Mary..you'll be fine!

I had been referred to Mary's by a friend of my mother's, knowing right off the bat that it was an expensive place. I met with one of the assistants and she immediately asked me what my budget was. After telling her that and what style of dress I wanted-strapless and A-line. I tried on 2 dresses, the 2nd one being the dress I wore on my wedding day. There were several things that I wanted to change in the beadwork, and it was never an issue. I absolutely loved my dress and the whole experience, but the dynamic of that shop is something else. The employees HATE Mary and she is a neurotic woman. Her assistant who helped me even called her a crazy b**ch! She also advised me not to buy bridesmaids dresses there b/c they were overpriced..and I do believe the 4 fitting rule to be a bit excessive. I will rave though about the seamstresses..they are fab and will do anything to make you feel awesome in the dress. The day I was to pick up my gown I was feeling unsure about it being strapless , and the seamstress right then and there made a halter strap that I could unhook at any time to make me feel more comfortable. I will give them credit that they know their stuff, they know what looks good on every body type, but they can be a little abrasive in the initial meeting about $$. So if you aren't looking to spend at least $3500 on ANY wedding gown- don't bother. But if it is in your budget, go there it is worth it, I loved my gown! Unlike David's and other shops you are the only one there during your fitting..which is why you need to make an appointment..so if you want to feel special go see Mary...but beware she is a little weird!

Ratings_icons Do NOT Shop at Mary's

Anonymous

Please save your time and money ladies, as Mary's Designer Bridal is NOT the place to shop for your wedding dress! This is your special time and you deserve to be treated with respect and decency. I made an appointment and went to Mary's with my mother. The consultant, Lisa, was nice but she couldn't answer simple questions - like how much each of the dresses cost. I've gone to Vera Wang salons and even they have price tags!! We after answering many style questions, we looked around the store for "the dress." Well, I did find "the dress" but there was one small (but major) problem - there was no price tag on the gown. I told them my budget for a dress was $3,000 so when Lisa told me the gown was $2800 I was pretty ecstatic. When I tried on the gown, it was simply beautiful. The sales ladies could see I had found "the dress" and was very happy. My mom then asked again about the designing process and cost of dress - because once again- there was no price tag. THEN the second sales lady said the dress was $3500!! I felt as if there was a bait and switch with the *nonexistent* price tags. The sales people could tell I loved the dress so they raised the price $700 within a 20 minute time period! At that point my mom and I did not feel comfortable buying the dress on the spot since it was now over my budget and needed to talk about it with my father. I guess they think they can play with your emotions and once you like a dress they'll raise the price on you. As I was hesitant, the sales ladies became like used car salesmen - laying on such pressure to buy the dress on the spot I felt extremely uncomfortable. The designer, Mary, even came to talk to me as I was standing on the little 'dress box platform.' Instead of answering questions about the dress, she only wanted to know when she could start making it (I have over a year until the wedding so there is no rush). When I told her that I was uncertain and I needed to consult with my dad because it was out of my budget she grabbed my hand and yanked me down from the platform. She rudely told me to take off the dress and leave. I was shocked and in the verge of tears as I was helped out of the dress. I really did like the dress and I probably would have bought it for the $3500 if I had been treated as a human being. It's Mary's loss of a sale and I can only hope to share my story to prevent any other brides from a horrible experience. I feel sorry for Lisa, the only nice sales lady because she has to work with temperamental people. Ladies - bottom line - you don't deserve to be treated poorly! Don't shop at Mary's Designer Bridal Boutique. The dresses are pretty but you deserve to be treated right. As for me - I've found the most beautiful Carmela Sutera dress within my budget! Don't think Mary's is the only place you can go - I know from experience! Take care and congratulations on your engagement!

Ratings_icons Pretty Women

If you want to be treated like Julia Roberts from the movie Pretty Women at the shop on Rodeo Drive, try Mary's Bridal. I have never been so offended in all my life. First of all the owner Mary, will dance around your questions and make you feel stupid for asking the price of her gowns. Her staff argues and belittles one another in front of you to make things really uncomfortable. My entire experience was so negative and a waist of my time. I made three different appointments. Each appointment I went to only to find out that I was not put on the schedule, Mary wasn't ready to see me, or I should come back with my mom. When I finally went to my fourth and final appointment, I tried on two dresses. The first dress I really liked, but I was told that the style I picked out was not ideal because the sleeves would confine me when I went to put my arms up...discussion closed. That dress left the dressing room abruptly and I never saw it again. The next dress I tried on I had scoped out a few days prior and had visited the dress with a few friends to show them what it looked like, I was clearly very interested in this dress. I was so excited to try it on, Mary helped me into the dress, she put a beautiful tiara in my hair and a veil at the base of my head, and I felt beautiful! When she had finished putting everything on, we were both looking into the mirror in a private dressing room, one of her helpers standing in the background. Mary looked at me and said...I thought you couldn't afford this dress. I said that I had tried to learn the price of the dress days before and I didn't know if I could afford it or not because I didn't know the price. She said she had told me the price in a very sarcastic and frustrated voice. I told her she had never told me the price and I would love to know how much the dress cost. Mary then abruptly sneered that the price was 2 grand. I said very disappointedly then I think we should start taking the dress off. She quickly ripped the tiara out of my hair and walked out with a slam of the door. Her helper stood in the back of the room like she had just seen a ghost. Tears started to well up in my eyes. We started to unzip the dress and take everything apart. Mary's helper told me not to worry about it, that she had seen this kind of thing happen all the time, that sometimes she even saw women putting their credit cards down to pay for their dress with out even knowing the price, because Mary won't give out the prices. I never felt so embarrassed and hurt. I left that day really sad. Shopping for your wedding gown is supposed to be fun and special, not make you cry! Take my advice, don't waist your time or your money...there are plenty of beautiful dresses out there in shops that practice positive and good customer service. Good Luck! Congrats on your engagements!!!!!

I must have tried on over 50 dresses before I went into this
boutique and I have to tell you that they saved my wedding.
They know design and fit .They know what flatters your body and what makes you look slimmer and how to make the most of your figure. I could not believe how small they made my waist and how busty they made my chest look.
They helped me to design my own wedding gown and I got to work with the designer herself. They are without a doubt the Best Bridal Shop I have ever seen and I have been everywhere. My best friend got her dress made there too.
Go to Marys You won't go wrong And on top of everything else
they were so nice, helpful and always made sure that I had everything that I needed. And on my wedding day they made me a garter for my wedding What a nice touch.

PROS: Great service, prices, knowledge and just fun people
CONS: Always busy make a appointment

Ratings_icons Big store - nice selection

This store is where I finally found "the" dress. There was a large selection of dresses in many different sizes and price ranges. The staff was friendly and pretty helpful. The person helping me was very patient and not too pushy to sell the dresses. They give discounts for buying bridesmaid and wedding gowns there together.

Ratings_icons Mixed Feelings

Samantha P. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,907

When I initially selected my dress, I felt very pressured by the staff there as they totally hated the one that I really liked. They then showed me only one other dress and told me I looked stunning and that was THE dress. So, I went with it. The final product did not have the exact specifications we had talked about (i.e. different types of straps), but did end up being beautiful. And they were super enthusiastic and excited about the wedding when they finally handed the dress over to me. So, I kind of have mixed feelings about the place. Definitely try it for yourself!
