I am working in Baltimore and decided to get out of the hotel for a meal. I sat at the bar and ordered a glass of expensive wine, an expensive appetizer and an expensive main course. I got my wine and then waited....and waited....and waited. And then they brought the main course. I turned it down and said I want to pay for my wine. I also asked for an apology and ""Meagan B"" shrugged her shoulders and said she thought the appetizer came...I was one of three people at the bar. She simple did not care. Luckily I have 5000 FB friends and 150000 twitter followers who I can also steer away from this place. Absolutely awful - and they don't care either! So neither should you.

It was our first time in this restaurant though we have heard of the good reputation. We ordered steamed mojito clams as appetizer. One of the clams was closed and when we opened it it was full of mud! Even worse was the attitude of the manager, who came to tell us it could have happened in any seafood restaurant and was not a big deal! They did not charge us for the clams but the low health standard and the poor apology of the manager were unacceptable. I do not recommend Phillips to anyone!

This is the worst buffett I have ever been. The crabs were very overcooked. The food was not tasty at all. The crab cakes were horribly seasoned. I was very disappointed and would like a refund or something. I will be in contact with the mager or something because I cannot go on knowing that we paid about $70.00 for dog/cat food. This was not acceptable. do not eat here

Pros: WAITER WAS GREAT

Cons: EVERYTHING

.

Food was horrible. They overcharged my credit card for an additional tip even though, I left a cash tip. This is horrible and unnecessary. Also, management was nasty and rude. Service wasnt great. Beware... I am never going back here when I return to Baltimore.

My husband and I went to Phillips (the restaurant, not the buffet). This was our second time there in perhaps four years, and we will not be going again. If Phillips was the only seafood restaurant around, it would be more enjoyable, but when you are in Baltimore, on the harbor, with so many wonderful local choices - patronize the locals, especially those in Fell's Point, and leave the chains to the chartered bus groups. If you do want to try Phillips, be sure to (a) make a reservation and (b) purchase a gift certificate from the restaurant-dot-com website - we bought a $25 certificate for only $2 when they had them on sale, which they seem to do regularly.

Pros: Waterside dining

Cons: High priced and ordinary food

Go off hours and you can have a nice time! Lovely dinner on the waterfront in a casual atmosphere. I'm not going during peak hours again.

Phillips is the visitor's stop for crabs or crabcakes. Overall the food is fine..a bit pricey, but it's right in the inner harbor. location location location

If you are looking for a good seafood all-u-can-eat buffet, do not go to Phillips. Their selection is very small and tastes exactly like the Phillips food you get from the frozen food section of your local grocery store. The crab cakes had so much filler in them, they tasted like old-bay seasoned bread; the crab legs were so small and overcooked, we threw them all away; the cream of crab soup was so thin that it looked like milky water and had no taste. They did have fried shrimp, fried clams and cold seasoned shrimp but you can get those anywhere and they will all taste the same. \r
\r
Do not spend your time and money going here, go somewhere a little nicer where you will be satisfied. There is a reason that there is no wait (usually) here but there are hour(s) waits at many other places around the area.

I joined a chartered bus trip through work down to Baltimore for a ""Crab Fest."" The tour included an all you could eat crab lunch at Phillip's. By the time we arrived at the restaurant we were all salivating thinking about enjoying Maryland blue claw crabs. We were escorted to a back room with long tables already set with bowls of potato salad and cole slaw ready for family style serving. We were then served fried chicken which we hungrily ate. \r
\r
There was a long wait for the crabs to arrive. When they did, they were extremely small, overcooked, and worse oversalted to the point of being inedilble. I never even got to use my wooden mallot to open the delectable claws because the majority of the crabs were missing their claws.\r
\r
We all realized they served us the chicken because we wouldn't be eating crabs.\r
\r
Phillip's lost a chance to wow 100 customers from out of town. Instead they lost our business and the business of our friends.\r
\r
Eat at M&S Grill instead - the food there is fabulous!!

It was the worst seafood buffet ever for $28.99, I would expect a better selection of shellfish and Phillip's signature crabcakes, instead we got crabcakes that is sold on supermarkets for a buck a piece. No fresh clams, oysters, or crabs. Everything was over fried, overbreaded, and very dry. Even the cold shrimp was too dry from freeze burn. The meat choices were ribs and carved roast beef. The roast beef looked like dog food, overcooked and dry, and the ribs looked worse, I couldn't put any of those two in my plate. The crab legs, were the only thing worthy of the money, but even those were dry.\r
\r
HEY PHILLIPS MANAGERS, TAKE NOTICE. EITHER YOU CHANGE YOUR COOKS, OR GET BETTER SEAFOOD.\r
\r
the lunch hightlight was the deserts, the pastry chef must be the best in the Harbor, he should recomend to the manager a seafood chef that takes pride of the food, as he takes on his pastries. The cakes and pies were the best I've ever eaten in a restaurant. DESERTS WERE THE BEST

A perfect father's day was absolutely ruined by this TRASHED ""Animal Food"" Buffet!!! God, i don't know where to start....... Some of the seafood (mussels and clams) were reheated leftovers, the snow crabs were just shells and the meat resembled thread, there should have been FORMAL CHARGES for the impersonation of crabcakes (gummy biscuits), the fish nuggets were mixed with cold fries, and the fried chicken was saturated in oil .... all this for 28.99 per person!!!! PLEASE DO NOT DO IT TO YOURSELF!!!!!! PHILLIPS BUFFET (IN BALTIMORE) IS THE WORST MONEY I'VE EVER SPENT ON FOOD AND WE'RE TRYING TO RE-COUP IT NOW!!! If you ignore my warning ........ think about me when you leave...........

Wonderful seating, courteous service, relaxing ambiance, and delicious seafood. I visit the east coast quite regularly, and this is one of my favorite haunts. Modestly price intimate dinners without paying a king's ransom. I'll definitely be back!

my boyfriend and i were driving from DC to NY and stopped in Baltimore to go to his favorite restaurant on the harbor. the wait was ridiculously long so we went to phillips only because we could be seated in under an hour. what a great choice! the food was EXCELLENT, the customer service on par, and the waitress's beer recommendation was great (loose cannon). we were so happy with our experience that we sought out the manager just to thank her for a lovely evening. my only qualm about the night was that we were seated in an inner room which had windows to the outer rooms (i think it was the carriage house) and whenever i tried to open the blinds to look out to the rest of the restaurant the person sitting on the other side would immediately shut them. it was weird. anyway, i have been to countless seafood restaurants, including the chains (legal, charterhouse etc) and while the decor may not be a modern as such places - its not supposed to be. we have highly recommended to several people already. \r

***By the way citysearch, why is the word ""h1t"" (as in it the beer really h1t the spot) deemed inappropriate????????)

Pros: delicious food, excellent service

Cons: not the cheapest meal ive had

.

A Truely horrible experience.

1. Confusion and disorganization getting a table. It took about 15 minutes to be seated when it turns out that the restaurant is only a little more than 1/2 full.

2. Drink order taken but not received until after our meal arrived

3. Order not taken for at least 30 minutes

4. I had to get the silverware and napkins after the food was served

5. Appetizer took about 45 minutes to be served.

6. Side dishes not received until after we had finished our meal

7. Waiter saying to us constantly, "You are having a really bad experience here". Duh

We did get a free dessert.

Food was only okay, nothing special.

Most disorganized, poorly run restaurant I have ever eaten at.

A few days later I tried the "express" just to get a crab cake. Once again I perfect example of a highly disorganized and poorly run operation. It took 30 minutes to get my order. They did not forget, it just took them forever to put out each order.

I don't know how this place stays in business. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR BUSINESS.THEY DO NOT DESERVE IT.

I can't remember when I felt more ripped off and dissapointed after eating at a restaurant. I had the chesapeake crab cakes and a cup of clam chowder. the chowder was good, the crab cakes virtually had no taste and at $26.99 what a rip off. with size of the cakes and the pitiful side that meal should be priced at around $12-15. You should be ashamed of yourselves for charging that amount for such a pitiful meal. At a price of $26.99 two sides should have been offered and at least serve bread. I am so mad, that I feel like doing a chargeback on my credit card and kicking my coworkers A for making the recommendation. when friends and co-workers ask me where to eat at the inner harbor the answer is simple legal sea foods

I was so disappointed..The food and the service was not what I would expect from well known restaurant, it was less than that of a corner dive bar. The crab cakes were the small, If your on a diet..Perfect..No doggie bag needed. I ordered the cream of crab soup, ok taste but no crab. Not a good representation of what real Baltimore crab cakes taste. I would not recommend or return.

After reading some of the reviews on here and some other sources, my partner and I were torn as to wehre to get out requisite Baltimore crab cake experience. In the end we settled on Phillips and happened to be at the one right on the Inner Harbor (we had just come from the aquarium).\r
\r
Anyway, the crab cakes were out of this world. Quite possibly the best I've ever had, I would recommend them without hesitation. We ended up getting the crab cake dinner and splitting it, then getting a salad and a soup. With the pre-meal bread, it turned out to be a ton of food and would have easily filled me up even if it had been dinner instead of lunch.\r
\r
Prices were on par with what we saw from everyone else in the area. Not cheap, but hey, it's seafood....what do you expect?

Phillips Seafood Restaurant in Harborplace is a tourist favorite, but the food is not as good as many other local restaurants. I do not approve that they buy crabmeat from Taiwan and try to pawn it off as authentic local Maryland crabmeat. If you are going to check it out, make sure you go on their website and you can get a free spinach and crab dip.

This restaurant is well known for their prime seafood. This restaurant is upscale and well worth the price. The seafood is fresh and deliciously prepared. This is a great place to go for a celebration such as an anniversary or birthday. Be sure to call ahead for a reservation, though, as they are usually booked up.

Service was terrible. They didn't have us marked down though I phoned in res. 3 days before. Reconsider sitting both in and outside. There is a water taxi right in front, so if you like the smell of diesel exhaust with your food this place is tops, and if you like loud groups of babies and NASCAR fans, well the indoor seating is for you.
Waiter: Our drink order was messed up, water only filled once and I got attitude for asking our candle be lit!
Food: Our artichoke crab dip contained zero crab and our entries were average at best as far as seafood goes. Thank god I got the email coupon for the app. and I've had way better crabcakes. This place is basically a dressed up Red Lobster. Good for groups I suppose.

I have been to the DC location and I love it. This Harborplace location was full of disapointment. 1st, the buffet is completely separated from the regular restaurant (unlike the DC location) so basically we could only order from the menu. I was really looking forward to the buffet. Well then I ordered one of my favorite beers off the menu. They were out of that beer. I decided to order a dozen crabs off the menu, as did my wife. They were out of crabs. This is starting to get repetative. Also there was a band with blaring trumpets about 20 feet away, making it impossible to have a real conversation. The waiter consistantly had to be reminded of requests we had made earlier. Overall it was a very disapointing experience. The one plus was that I ordered the crab imperial and it was awesome.

The service at Phillips was awesome. It definitely enhanced our dining experience. I have eaten their several times and always had a lovely time. The view was remarkable from almost every table we were seated in. The crabcakes were amazing, probably the best I have ever had. This is a must stop when downtown; at least this local thinks so.

I have no idea what filler the other reviewer was talking about; I had the Premium crab Cakes brioled and there was only one broken ritz cracker holding all those tasty lumps together. It was absolutely the best crab cake I've ever had and being from Baltimore, I've definitely eaten my share of crab cakes. The restaurant looked beautiful, the wait staff were as hospitable as can be and the frozen Mango Colada is to die for! Phillips is NOT the tourist trap people think it is! Take it from a local...try the Premium Crab Cakes at Phillips!

Take it from a local...try the Premium Crab Cakes at Phillips!

.

Great seafood restraunt and great prices. Also the place is very clean and romantic.

I was quite impressed with the atmosphere and the dining at Phillips. I can't speak for the crabcakes, but what I ate was delicious. The staff was courteous and helpful. I enjoyed my visit as did my family. I look forward to dining there again. I only hope that Phillips would become a chain and send the resturant to Philadelphia. Good Eats!
