Ratings_icons Sugar Bakers is great!

Tori L.

Just bought a red velvet cake with french buttercream frosting for my husband's birthday -- the best cake I have EVER eaten. Customer service was great.

Ratings_icons Sugar Bakers is awful

Terrible customer service, overpriced, taste of cakes is average at best. If you are looking for an expensive cake that is at least worth the money, go to Cake Love.

Ratings_icons Sugar Bakers is all about money.

The rudest vendors I have ever met. I asked them if they would be available on my wedding date for a cake and they said yes. I told them I was having 50-75 people and they said that I could not have a tasting unless I paid $10 for the tray. What kind of mess is that. I asked them why and they said that they would not make any money off of us. I was completely shocked by this response. I said, well I bet you wouldn't take the same care and time into our cake as someone who was ordering for 200 people. Whatever, I hung up. Reading the other reviews, I am glad we are not going with them.

Ratings_icons Sugar Bakers is TO BE AVOIDED

I would NOT purchase a cake from Sugarbakers. Their customer service is absolutely horrible! We are celebrating the 20th anniversary and wanted a special cake for about 50 people. One the phone, she asked it was going to be a two tiered if so it will be $4.50 person. When I arrived, she shows me the book and says that two tiers are $5.50 per person. We look in the book and had a few ideas and a few questions. The woman and the counter was slow to respond and did not do anything to assist us. We had to ask all of the questions and received only monetary answers. No questions were asked of us and no suggestions made. My budget for the cake was $450 and with all of the changes in price it would be about $395 for 50 persons. I would spend it as it is within budget but I can not give my business to Sugarbakers. The occasion is too special and there are too many shops willing to do business with a smile. AVOID SUGARBAKERS AT ALL COSTS. Do NOT believe what you read on the web about how great they are. I was very disappointed and I did not even buy a cake!

Ratings_icons Sugarbakers is very disappointing

Donna T.

Wedding date: May 23, 2009. Do not waste your money. My daughter's wedding cake from Sugarbakers was very disappointing. The wedding cake did not come close to what Sugarbakers served at our tasting and it was definitely not what we ordered. The wedding cake was to have white icing with burgundy trim. The bottom layer was to be made of moist lemon cake filled with lemon mousse and the top 2 layers were to be made of moist red velvet cake with fudge filling. The cake arrived with an ivory yellowish colored icing with brownish purple trim. The fresh flowers on the top of the cake were very pretty. The icing tasted like sickening butter flavored Crisco. It was definitely not the light fluffy icing we were served at the tasting. The large bottom layer of the cake was filled with sickening butter flavored Crisco tasting icing instead of the lemon mousse we ordered and the cake had only a very slight taste of lemon on the end of the layer and no taste past that. It didnt taste at all like the moist lemon cake we were served at the tasting. We didn't get to taste the red velvet portion of the cake but did observe several uneaten pieces left on the tables. Sugarbakers customer service is poor as well. They do not respond to emails sent from their own web site. Sugarbakers is very disappointing.

Did a tasting for possible wedding cake. Cake tastes like it came from a box...or worse. Icing is like eating a stick of butter with no flavor. Go somewhere else.

Ratings_icons DO YOURSELF A FAVOR & GO TO CAKES PLUS IN LAUREL.

Kathy Q.

I'm a cake lover so you'd be hard-pressed to find a cake that I don't enjoy. Sugarbaker's, however, rose to that dubious challenge. On a 1/4 sheet cake, there was easily 10 pounds of icing, way more icing than cake, which was not a good thing, especially since the icing tasted like Crisco. I've had better icing from a one dollar tub of Betty Crocker or Pillsbury. The cake itself tasted like an ordinary box cake, nothing at all like their website describes as "tasting like it's made from scratch" & "too good to eat". The prices are absolutely exorbitant and so far removed from the quality of the product that it's baffling that Sugarbaker's is still in business. Do yourself a favor & go to Cakes Plus in Laurel, or even your local grocery store would be better than Sugarbaker's.

Ratings_icons Two great cakes

After not having a birthday cake in many years my husband ordered one for me - chocolate with chocolate mousse filling - from Sugarbakers this summer. It was one of the best cakes I've ever had. To repay him I ordered one for him a month later - different flavor, red velvet with whipped cream cheese frosting - and took it to a restaurant for a party. Not only was he happy, the restaurant staff and our party guests asked for referrals.

Ratings_icons Best Cake Ever!

Anonymous

The wedding cake made for my son's wedding was beautiful to look at, but the best part was the taste! It has been 6 months since the wedding, and people are still commenting to me about how wonderful the cake tasted!

DO NOT get your wedding cake from these people. We showed them the picture of the beautiful cake, they said they could make it and what we got was far from it. They refunded a whopping $75.00.
Thanks for spoiling our wedding. Repeat...DO NOT get your cake from these people.

Ratings_icons Yummy cake!

When I was planning my wedding, I had a tasting with Sugarbakers cakes. I tasted two flavors, and both were excellent. The raspberry and amaretto filling was especially good. The cakes start at about $4 per serving, which is about on par with other bakers that I priced. They offer tons of cake designs, and will work with you to design whatever you like.

Ratings_icons Great cakes, but pricey

I came here to get a cake for my husband for his birthday and left with a cake, a bag of cookies and also 4 mini desserts. The cakes are works of art and were hard to cut into a eat. I took pictures and sent them to my family they were so pretty. The cookies are like your grandmother makes and they often will give you a sample while you are waiting. The customized writing they did for no charge and on the spot for me. I highly recommend them.

Ratings_icons schedule a tasting here!

We tasted wedding cakes at Sugarbakers while planning our recent wedding. The cake was amazing. They had so many varieties and combinations, not to mention beautiful designs. Everything was delicious. Prices are a little high, and the salesperson was a bit pushy in trying to have us sign a contract on the spot, but, if you can afford it, this is definitely THE place in/around Baltimore to get your wedding cake.
