I ordered my daughter's birthday cake here. The woman who took the order was impolite, condescending and provided poor customer service. I attempted to give the business however, the benefit of the doubt. The chocolate cake was grainy

I had to go 3 times to order a cake since they don't accept cakes with 7 days of a needed date. Next time I planned 1 week ahead but they said they are not able to take order due to "overwhelming" orders. Finally I ordered the 3rd time by going 8 days ahead and I went to pickup today. Since it was Friday the traffic was so bad, I reached their store at 6.01 pm. The person in the store said that they close at 6.00 pm and rejected to deliver my cake. They are not even considerate for 1 min delay. My wifes bidthday party is ruined due to the attitude of these bakers. They believe that it is a privilege to eat their cake. I am not going to these guys once again.

I was scheduled to come in for a tasting on Saturday, April 16th, and made the person that I made the appointment with aware that I would be coming from Philadelphia. On the day that we came down, there was a horrendous storm. As a result of the bad weather, there were at least four accidents on the way down. A trip that normally takes us about an hour and half, took us four hours. We called in to the bakery to let them know that we were running late, at which they said that it would be okay and for us to still come down. After finding out that that it would take even longer due to all of the accidents, we tried calling the bakery back to ask them if we should keep driving or just turn around, because we were obviously going to be later than expected. We called, and called, and called, at least 10 times leaving two messages. Two hours later, when we were about 5 minutes away from the bakery (at 3:15pm), Mike called us back to tell us that they would be closing any minute and could not see us. He didn't ask us where we were or consider the fact that we had just driven that far in horrible weather, or the fact that they close at 4:00, not 3:15. We were obviously disappointed to hear this after driving for four hours and even more disappointed that nobody picked up the phone or even acknowledged our voicemails to at least tell us to turn around. These people need to take a refresher coarse in Business 101. Come on, what place of business just doesn't answer the phone for hours on end during store hours. To make things worse, I see that there is a $50 charge on our credit card for "missing" our appointment. I called and they said that they would refund it. Still, not even so much as an apology for completely ignoring our calls all day.

Called management to communicate my dissatisfaction and sent an email. I recieved not even an email or call back, which clearly indicates that they could care less about their customers. I'm very glad I saw this awful behavior before I booked them, and actually gave any of my hard-earned money to them!

I have to say, this is by far the worst experience that I have had with a vendor to date. Sugar Bakers is a great example of why wedding planning is stressful.

Sugar Bakers has HORRIBLE customer service! I ordered two cakes off the retail menu for my mother's 65TH surprise birthday party, as I was told I should order ahead to make sure they have the ones I want in the store. I ordered to pick the cakes up 9am on Sunday. Apparently there was a misunderstanding as they are not open on Sunday ( I had no clue) and the woman taking the order thought I said Sat. I received a voice mail on Saturday at 5:30p from Sugar Bakers ( they called me at 3:30p) to say they close at 4p and if I can't get there in time to get the two cakes, I could pick them up on Monday. I was completely distraught and had to scramble Saturday night to try and get two cakes for my mom's party. After two calls ( Monday and Tuesday) with no return call from the manager, I finally got one on the phone (Wednesday) who informed that they will not return my money nor give a store credit, and since no one returned my calls, my cakes were now gone as well! Apparently their misunderstanding was my fault......and I had to pay for it! I will tell everyone I know NOT to go to Sugar Bakers!

The rudest vendors I have ever met. I asked them if they would be available on my wedding date for a cake and they said yes. I told them I was having 50-75 people and they said that I could not have a tasting unless I paid $10 for the tray. What kind of mess is that. I asked them why and they said that they would not make any money off of us. I was completely shocked by this response. I said, well I bet you wouldn't take the same care and time into our cake as someone who was ordering for 200 people. Whatever, I hung up. Reading the other reviews, I am glad we are not going with them.

I would NOT purchase a cake from Sugarbakers. Their customer service is absolutely horrible! We are celebrating the 20th anniversary and wanted a special cake for about 50 people. One the phone, she asked it was going to be a two tiered if so it will be $4.50 person. When I arrived, she shows me the book and says that two tiers are $5.50 per person. We look in the book and had a few ideas and a few questions. The woman and the counter was slow to respond and did not do anything to assist us. We had to ask all of the questions and received only monetary answers. No questions were asked of us and no suggestions made. My budget for the cake was $450 and with all of the changes in price it would be about $395 for 50 persons. I would spend it as it is within budget but I can not give my business to Sugarbakers. The occasion is too special and there are too many shops willing to do business with a smile. AVOID SUGARBAKERS AT ALL COSTS. Do NOT believe what you read on the web about how great they are. I was very disappointed and I did not even buy a cake!

Wedding date: May 23, 2009. Do not waste your money. My daughter's wedding cake from Sugarbakers was very disappointing. The wedding cake did not come close to what Sugarbakers served at our tasting and it was definitely not what we ordered. The wedding cake was to have white icing with burgundy trim. The bottom layer was to be made of moist lemon cake filled with lemon mousse and the top 2 layers were to be made of moist red velvet cake with fudge filling. The cake arrived with an ivory yellowish colored icing with brownish purple trim. The fresh flowers on the top of the cake were very pretty. The icing tasted like sickening butter flavored Crisco. It was definitely not the light fluffy icing we were served at the tasting. The large bottom layer of the cake was filled with sickening butter flavored Crisco tasting icing instead of the lemon mousse we ordered and the cake had only a very slight taste of lemon on the end of the layer and no taste past that. It didn??t taste at all like the moist lemon cake we were served at the tasting. We didn't get to taste the red velvet portion of the cake but did observe several uneaten pieces left on the tables. Sugarbakers customer service is poor as well. They do not respond to emails sent from their own web site. Sugarbakers is very disappointing.

Did a tasting for possible wedding cake. Cake tastes like it came from a box...or worse. Icing is like eating a stick of butter with no flavor. Go somewhere else.

I'm a cake lover so you'd be hard-pressed to find a cake that I don't enjoy. Sugarbaker's, however, rose to that dubious challenge. On a 1/4 sheet cake, there was easily 10 pounds of icing, way more icing than cake, which was not a good thing, especially since the icing tasted like Crisco. I've had better icing from a one dollar tub of Betty Crocker or Pillsbury. The cake itself tasted like an ordinary box cake, nothing at all like their website describes as "tasting like it's made from scratch" & "too good to eat". The prices are absolutely exorbitant and so far removed from the quality of the product that it's baffling that Sugarbaker's is still in business. Do yourself a favor & go to Cakes Plus in Laurel, or even your local grocery store would be better than Sugarbaker's.

After not having a birthday cake in many years my husband ordered one for me - chocolate with chocolate mousse filling - from Sugarbakers this summer. It was one of the best cakes I've ever had. To repay him I ordered one for him a month later - different flavor, red velvet with whipped cream cheese frosting - and took it to a restaurant for a party. Not only was he happy, the restaurant staff and our party guests asked for referrals.

The wedding cake made for my son's wedding was beautiful to look at, but the best part was the taste! It has been 6 months since the wedding, and people are still commenting to me about how wonderful the cake tasted!

DO NOT get your wedding cake from these people. We showed them the picture of the beautiful cake, they said they could make it and what we got was far from it. They refunded a whopping $75.00.
Thanks for spoiling our wedding. Repeat...DO NOT get your cake from these people.

When I was planning my wedding, I had a tasting with Sugarbakers cakes. I tasted two flavors, and both were excellent. The raspberry and amaretto filling was especially good. The cakes start at about $4 per serving, which is about on par with other bakers that I priced. They offer tons of cake designs, and will work with you to design whatever you like.

I came here to get a cake for my husband for his birthday and left with a cake, a bag of cookies and also 4 mini desserts. The cakes are works of art and were hard to cut into a eat. I took pictures and sent them to my family they were so pretty. The cookies are like your grandmother makes and they often will give you a sample while you are waiting. The customized writing they did for no charge and on the spot for me. I highly recommend them.

We tasted wedding cakes at Sugarbakers while planning our recent wedding. The cake was amazing. They had so many varieties and combinations, not to mention beautiful designs. Everything was delicious. Prices are a little high, and the salesperson was a bit pushy in trying to have us sign a contract on the spot, but, if you can afford it, this is definitely THE place in/around Baltimore to get your wedding cake.
