very crowded. I am now a member of the Edgewater location but I work very close to Annapolis and I am disappointed that I cannot use the Annapolis location.

they say first impressions are ever lasting... for just this reason, I'm unable to remove the stench of old mildew and body odor 'funk' from my memories. In fairness, perhaps some of it transferred to my clothes and gym bag on the trial run.

They also say that one can draw a direct line between the condition of a place of business and the fine folks who run and operate that facility. If the bathrooms are any indication - oh, boy...

suffice to say, I've seen cleaner crappers at Greyhound Bus Terminals in the Bronx.

Unless you're conducting some sort of 'research project' for Microbiology class - I would suggest thinking twice about this spot.

Pros: there is a door leading to the outside, use it.

Cons: many, see details below

It's amazing that Gold's allows the owners of this gym to even use their corporate name.

The building doesn't have adequate heat or air conditioning, so it's always hot in the summer and cold in the winter. You can see the residential window AC units they've punched through the walls from the outside. And on the inside there are always huge fans running that unsuccessfully attempt to push hot and cold air around.

The weights are a collection of mismatched plates and bars from at least 6 different manufacturers.

When things break, be it water fountains, weight machines, locker doors, etc... the owners take "months" to fix them if at all.

The men's locker room has zero ventilation and always smells of mildew, sweat, and stale urine. God help you if someone uses the single toilet to go #2 while you're in there trying to change.

There have a handful of unsafe circa 1970's machines that probably came from the same surplus warehouse as the weights mentioned above.

The bottom line is that this is a very poorly maintained and unclean gym that isn't worth the membership. If you want to see what a "real" Golds gym is "supposed" to look like, check out the one in Crofton MD just west of Annapolis.

Buyer Beware - Regarding their membership policy:

The kids they have taking new memberships do not make it clear that at this particular Golds Franchise they have a policy that after your first year of membership expires. If you don't notifiy them within 30 days they automatically sign you up for another full year.(Most reputable gyms go to a month to month basis after the initial year membership expires).

This gym offers no options or provisions for cancellation other than proven medical disability or moving more than 50 miles away from the gym. They force you to pay the remaining months of membership fees to complete the year no matter what point you are in the billing cycle.

This is your typical Gold's Gym. The staff is friendly and is eager to get you to sign a contract. Once you do, they really don't pay much attention to you. You get a free session with a personal trainer and after that it was nice because there wasn't any pressure to sign up for extra sessions. The building is old and the equipment is ok, but there is no swimming pool. TV's are located throughout, although some do not work. Overall, it's a great place to work out.
