I was previously a resident of Washington, DC and I used to bring my 14 year old Shih Tzu to Montgomery Village Animal Hospital (MVAH). The drive from the Chinatown area of DC to Gaithersburg would take me roughly 30-45 minutes, however, the service we received from the staff at MVAH, especially Dr. Meg Quickel, made the trip worth it. We had been a long-time client of Dr. Quickel ?? a testament to the quality care that she delivers with utmost professionalism. More importantly, I always felt that the care that Snowball received was the care that the staff would give to their own four-legged friend. Dr Quickel is very knowledgeable and empathetic and helped Snowball and I through some difficult times. Most recently, she was able to detect that Snowball was showing signs of degenerative disc disease.Thankfully, with her accurate diagnosis, we were able to bring Snowball to the appropriate Specialist for further help. If given the opportunity, I would absolutely recommend MVAH to family and friends.

I was searching for an orthopedic surgeon when I came across Dr. Neuman with Montgomery Village Animal Hospital. My dog dislocated her elbow the day before Hurricane Sandy was set to make landfall in our area. I was desperate to get into someone right away to ensure that she didn't have any further damage or would require surgery. Not only was Montgomery Village Animal Hospital open the day of Hurricane Sandy, they got me in for an appointment only a few hours after I called.

When I arrived at the practice, the staff was extremely personable. I want to specifically give thanks to the vet technician that was working with us. He was extremely knowledgeable and made a huge effort to make sure my dog was comfortable by giving her lots of attention and treats to relax her. We were even given a small bag of treats to take home.

Dr. Neuman was amazing! He not only looked at my dog for the problem that we came in for but did an overall wellness exam. He explained things to me that the emergency vet failed to mention the day before. Even going as far as explaining what the medication the emergency vet gave me was for and ensured they had given me enough. I had gone in expecting to pay for an office visit and another set of x-rays but Dr. Neuman didn't even need to take any. They saved me an extra $150-$200 on that alone. When I arrived home, I noticed Dr. Neuman had personally sent me an email informing me that if I had any questions or my dog started experiencing any pain or problems to give him a call. I have to say, no veterinarian I've EVER been to has done this before. He went far above and beyond my expectations.

I am extremely pleased with the service I got from this animal hospital. I will be taking both of my dogs back in the future.

Great support staff! Stick to Dr Neuman- I used to work here, and he is the best vet I have ever worked with, especially for complicated issues that other vets have not been able to address. He especially does well with orthopedics.

Our dogs are like family so we insist on the best care for them. That's why we take them to the Montgomery Village Animal Hospital. Dr. Neuman, his associate vets and staff have always been professional, knowledgeable and caring. We especially appreciate the extra time he spends to educate us on the ailments our dogs get and the alternative treatments for them. In addition to the care our critters get Dr. Neuman has been great about addressing any issues we have had whether medical or administrative.

We took our dog in for a growth on his ear. They found an ear infection and scheduled multiple visits for the ear infection before they would treat the growth. $350 later, we decided to go back to our old vet across town for a second opinion. As we suspected, Montgomery Village Animal Hospital could have treated the ear infection, and the growth simultaneously. The tumor grew three times it's original size and now, because of the lack of proper treatment, will lose a portion of his ear. MVAH quoted us $350 to take care of the ear infection, $1200 for the removal of the growth, and a potential of up to $1200 additional if they had to go back and remove the ear after biopsy. Our old vet is currently treating the remainder of the ear infection, gave us several options, is removing the growth, advised us that as soon as she is in, will determine if the ear needs to be removed. She is also cleaning his teeth and grooming him, all for $800.

Similar situation with my cat. When I took him in for an irritated eye, they performed unauthorized tests to rack up the bill. For a $12 ointment, they racked up $285.

This animal hospital does not truly care about the proper care of your pets, only the money they can wrench out of you.

There are plenty of good vets out there, do your research before subjecting your pet to improper treatment and unnecessary high costs. They charge you $67 to walk through the door - other vets are more reasonable.

My dog is losing his ear because of their greed.

My cat was peeing blood, clearly showing signs of an UTI. I suggested this as I took her in and asked for a check-up, dip-stick urinalysis, and some anti-biotics. Instead I am hard-sold/pressured into nearly $600 of tests and charges for what ended up needeing a dip-stick and antibiotics.

The staff was rude and condescending when 'optional' treatments were refused.

These Drs may be capable and caring for your animal, but they are trying to clean out your pocket.

Being new to the area, I wanted to find a good vet clinic and groomer from my new puppy. I went to MV Animal Hospital for a first visit. The puppy was unable to receive more than a rabies vaccination and needed to come back for distemper. An appointment was made for distemper and grooming after speaking with 3 different staff members, I was reassured that the appointments could be scheduled for one day. Showed up for the appointment (3 weeks away) and they did not have the appointment in the book despite my holding an appointment card. Resheduled again for two weeks, showed up and they cannot groom and give distemper on the same day. Gave us an appointment 3 weeks away for another shot and a month away for grooming. This has been going on for 2 1/2 months now. My puppy is long-haired and hot! They actually were telling us that we need to take her home to cut her hair like we didn't care that our dog was uncomfortable. Duh! Save yourself and pet the aggravation and find a vet with qualified staff who care.

We have been going to MVAH for 15 years and Dr. Neuman and his staff have ALWAYS provided our pets with the very best of care. When our cat "Dirtbag" was ill he was cared for on a daily basis with respect, love and devotion (example: sitting on one of the vets desks while she worked instead of being in a cage). When "Dirtbag" was undergoing painful procedures Dr. Neuman promised that if the time came and all hope was gone he would be honest with me and let me know that we were keeping Dirt alive not for him, but for us and it was time to stop. He kept his word and he and his staff cried along with us when we had to prove our love for Dirtbag by letting him go. It's been 5 years since Dirtbag passed and Dr. Neuman still keeps photos of Dirt in his office album. MVAH has recently cared for our 5 other cats when they became ill with Feline Herpes. We travel over 50 miles to visit MVAH and Dr. Neuman and I am telling you, we love our hairy little children and would trust no other vet practice with their lives.

We have been going to Dr. Neuman for 15 years plus, and he has a great manner, personality, and explains everything, on paper. He also does not skip to the most expensve options, but reviews them all. He had great associate vet who went off to start his own practice, which says a lot about the place that they train and encourage profesional development. Develop a relationship with the staff and doctor and you'll likely be pleased with the level of care, professionalism, and kindness you'll receive.

I have been using this vet for over 10 years and have enjoyed them until as of late. Owning five dogs, they have always been very personable and treated each as an individual. My issue now is that their front desk staff are always changing as well as the junior vets.
The main vet, Neal Neumann, should be avoided as he has the personality of a rock. Also, their billing practices have to be scrutinized as they will make mistakes.

If you're looking for a place to take your pets in case of an emergency, look no further than Montgomery Village Animal Hospital. My puppy had swallowed a few things that he shouldn't have, and started choking at 2 am in the morning. I put him in the car and drove him to this hospital, as it was the closest one to my house. The staff was extremely efficient, and took him back right away. Within minutes, they had disloged what was stuck, and put both of us at ease.

We routinely bring our dog to the Montgomery Village Animal Hospital. She receives all her shots and checkups here and we never had a problem. The vets are always very good and explain everything they do to her in great detail. I highly recommend them.

I understand how difficult it is to find a good vet, and I am happy to say that after taking my dog here three times for physical, I've decided that I no longer worry about whether I should find another vet or not. I did have (little) problem with them before, but it was mainly because of the vet techs, but the last time I was there, they had changed the techs and my dog was treated with care and diligence. I was rather pleased. As for my vet, Dr. Jenkins (there is another vet there, which I can't speak of because I never met him), she talks very gently to my dog and also explains to me what she's doing as she's examining him, and she would also tell me the results as she goes along. I am very happy with vet, and I think that's the more important part. Dr. Jenkins seems to know what she's doing and she seems to really care about the dog, and also if I had any questions. She wouldn't finish the exam until she's certain that I had no questions for her, and she never made me feel rushed. The staff made me feel very comfortable and a valued customer/patient.
They are also very good at keeping the records and sends notice of what treatment is needed on schedule. If you have any concerns, they are very willing to work with you so the vaccination schedule suits your needs. They are never pushy with any excess procedure/treatments, either.
They also provide grooming services, dental cleaning, etc. I feel like my dog is in good care in this animal hospital facility.
The only tiny thing I wasn't happy about was that last year, a month after my dog went to his physical I received a bill from them, when I thought I already paid the full fee. It's always annoying to receive bills when you don't expect it. I asked them to make sure to charge me the full amount at the time of my exam, and they apologized for that and was sympathetic to the inconvenience.
I didn't choose the price range because I don't really know how much vet charges on average.

PROS: Great facility, caring vet.
CONS: Watch their biling, but it's not a major problem.
