What happened to the respected 'teacher's school'?

One of my 'kids' attends this college and in comparison to my other child's experience at College of Notre Dame, Towson is a HUGE disappointment. Don't tell me it's because Towson is so large and handles a great amount of students. They should allow for that. The 'advisors' are poor, if you can even get an appointment with one. The Financial Aid department was little help to us, and other families I've spoken with. A recent review in a Towson journal web site revealed how horribly the students are regarded. Jrs and Srs are being prohibited from living on campus and the horrendous parking situation has been ignored for years. I've had nothing but frustrating experiences with most of the departments of this college. I was also on the Parent's Committee but realized that it didn't serve the students very well so I quit. The one thing you can depend on here is that your child will most likely be encouraged to drink (it happens a lot, in fact there is a group on facebook devoted to towson drinkers) Other colleges might have their problems as well but not as much as this place. I am very sorry to have encouraged my child to enroll here. It is almost impossible to transfer as well.

Towson University is a great University that is always expanding and improving. I am currently enrolled as an exercise science major. There are some great professors in the kinesiology department. Recently they have changed around their ex. science program to be more student friendly.

I love going to college here. The teachers seem to actually care about the students and take an active interest in what we as students are doing. The class selection is decent most semesters.

They need more outstanding teachers. Most of their teachers in CS department are not well qualified. They need do more to improve it. They also need buy more new books for their library. Not much good stuff there.

This is an okay school, they will give you a good education, but most of the students do not really care about classes or take their education seriously. It is a real party school. The Mass Communication and Electronic Media departments are very good though! The school store overcharges for books though, so buy your books online.

While Towson is a large school in the Baltimore area, little is done to make the large school feel "smaller." Students are shuffled from one department to the next to take care of things, and most who work there do not understand the demands students face. As a part time night student, I found it challenging that the Enrollment Services office was never open past four. I will say that the professors are outstanding and made my experience a good one.

CONS: professors

While Towson University may be well-noted for its prestige and quality education, it may not be the best place for those looking to save money on higher education. The school itself offers a great atmosphere for those pursuing an education in domestic fields, but for students pursuing degrees in the arts and media, it does not prepare you fully for today's competitive job market. While the Career Center claims to provide ongoing, free guadance and counseling to Towson alumns, it seems that college staff are not able to help you with outside of college life.
