I attended Towson University from 2004-2010. While I was there I got my bachelors and masters degree in computer science. I can't speak for other majors, but for computer science the school was great. Many professors in the department took an interest in my success and I partnered with a few to complete my master??s project. Not only did they meet with me weekly, but they also contributed to the work and helped me get a publication out. I still keep in touch with many of them after graduation.

It is true what people say about your assigned advisors not caring to much... but there is a simple solution... find someone in your major and ask them if they'd be your advisor. If they say yes, put in a formal request to have them officially become it.

I knew a lot of people who ended up not graduating on time because their "advisor sucked and didn't help them pick classes and they missed a class and now they have to go back and do it" .... PEOPLE YOU'RE IN COLLEGE! This isn't middle school, this isn't high school.... you're educating yourself for the real world! Towson offers many tools to check on the status of your degree and what areas you still need coursework completed in. Do you expect to get a job and then expect someone to hold your hand? The advisors are there to answer questions you may have and suggest classes... not plan out your entire education! Upon graduation in May of 2010 I received three job offers in the same week between 58k-68k from top companies... I think that speaks highly of the school... but you certainly want to put the effort in to get summer internships and a good GPA.

The night life in Towson is a lot of fun- there are about 8 local bars all within a half mile of each other that cater to all college students... It is a lot of fun and you start to know almost everyone in Towson just by meeting them out on weekends! You're a 20min drive to Baltimore, hour from DC.. so you can go to these places every once in awhile to change the scenery.

Towson is known for charging students outrageously stupid fees after the semester is over, and bullying students to pay the fees. Not only are the parking permits maddeningly expensive, but parking is an absolute nightmare. I didn't purchase a parking permit because of the costs, and walked to campus everyday, yet the Bursar's office still tried to charge me for it. I was not the only student by far to come across such administrative incompetency.

The class selection process for incoming transfer students is a complete and utter joke- class selection is made less than a week before classes begin, and for transfer student orientation, my fellow students and I had to sit on the floor in the library for five hours before we could even meet with an advisor. It was a complete joke.

Their science building's technology could at best be described as historic, and trying to talk to anyone in financial aid/bursar/registrar/advising office is like talking to a blank wall.

Towson is a cheap school. Not inexpensive, but completely cheap. They're out to make as much money as possible from the thousands of students which attend, don't let yourself be one of those who get ripped off.

I was forced financially to attend Towson University and a handful of my friends were as well. I found that not only was the parking situation awful, but the Professors are, for the most part, completely unprofessional. Now, don't get me wrong, there are good professors here too. But overall, the quality of the education is a complete joke. The professors teach with their own biases in mind and don't stay neutral, they don't want to hear your opinion, even when they tell you they do. The advisors are awful, my own advisors, prior to graduating, only spoke face to face with me twice, and she was a complete jerk when she did. I know this all sounds like im bashing this school, and in part i am, but i really believe that Towson needs to stop tolerating these totally incompetent Professors. A lot of these "advisors" can't even advise properly! They don't even know what they're talking about; i've had a lot of friends think they're graduating in May and then their advisor calls them and says, "Hey, sorry, i forgot to mention that at our last meeting, you need ten more credits before you can graduate". What is that? Thats irresponsible is what that is! This didn't just happen to me, i've seen it happen to A LOT of people. It's a mess. Overall, i should have gone to UMBC, because this school was just horrendous and i wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Unless you're an alcoholic.

One of my 'kids' attends this college and in comparison to my other child's experience at College of Notre Dame, Towson is a HUGE disappointment. Don't tell me it's because Towson is so large and handles a great amount of students. They should allow for that. The 'advisors' are poor, if you can even get an appointment with one. The Financial Aid department was little help to us, and other families I've spoken with. A recent review in a Towson journal web site revealed how horribly the students are regarded. Jrs and Srs are being prohibited from living on campus and the horrendous parking situation has been ignored for years. I've had nothing but frustrating experiences with most of the departments of this college. I was also on the Parent's Committee but realized that it didn't serve the students very well so I quit. The one thing you can depend on here is that your child will most likely be encouraged to drink (it happens a lot, in fact there is a group on facebook devoted to towson drinkers) Other colleges might have their problems as well but not as much as this place. I am very sorry to have encouraged my child to enroll here. It is almost impossible to transfer as well.

Towson University is a great University that is always expanding and improving. I am currently enrolled as an exercise science major. There are some great professors in the kinesiology department. Recently they have changed around their ex. science program to be more student friendly.

I love going to college here. The teachers seem to actually care about the students and take an active interest in what we as students are doing. The class selection is decent most semesters.

They need more outstanding teachers. Most of their teachers in CS department are not well qualified. They need do more to improve it. They also need buy more new books for their library. Not much good stuff there.

This is an okay school, they will give you a good education, but most of the students do not really care about classes or take their education seriously. It is a real party school. The Mass Communication and Electronic Media departments are very good though! The school store overcharges for books though, so buy your books online.

While Towson is a large school in the Baltimore area, little is done to make the large school feel "smaller." Students are shuffled from one department to the next to take care of things, and most who work there do not understand the demands students face. As a part time night student, I found it challenging that the Enrollment Services office was never open past four. I will say that the professors are outstanding and made my experience a good one.

PROS:
CONS: professors

While Towson University may be well-noted for its prestige and quality education, it may not be the best place for those looking to save money on higher education. The school itself offers a great atmosphere for those pursuing an education in domestic fields, but for students pursuing degrees in the arts and media, it does not prepare you fully for today's competitive job market. While the Career Center claims to provide ongoing, free guadance and counseling to Towson alumns, it seems that college staff are not able to help you with outside of college life.
