I've been to all of the consignment shops in Baltimore now, and I can confidently proclaim that Newbury & Smith is by far the best. Their merchandise is more upscale that I was expecting. I disagree with the previous reviewer's opinion of the owner. Karen will go to great lengths to make sure you're satisfied and has never been anything but friendly and welcoming!

It used to be one of my favorite places to shop. A great location in the heart of old Mount Washington, in a quaint old house directly above the Jones Falls. The consignors must still be the same, because the selection and variety are still there. However, the prices are so outrageous, that most of the time you will find brand new clothes at a retail discount for less then the second-hand items here. The owner is an uppity snob who should stay away from the store and let her staff run it. They are a pleasure to deal with. Always meet you with a smile and a greeting. Always willing to help, assist, and advise - but will not push. I stayed away for a long time and just recently went back. The staff is still great and the owner should just let someone else run the store.

Pros: The staff is amazing, selection is great, location adorable.

Cons: The owner is too full of herself

Lots of high end merchandise. Great designer goods. I got a pair of Armani pants, which fit me perfectly-and I'm short-for $28. I found them on line for $150-gently worn.
They also have a great selection of unusual jewelry and occasionally some great designer-Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik-shoes. Unfortunately for me, the person who brings them in has bigger feet than mine.
The "Back Room" is a bargain hunters delight. I got a pair of Jag pants for $12.
Try it.
