I've been a customer at Auto Spa Cockeysville for quite some time. The staff is always friendly and usually does a great job. However, if you ever have a problem, DO NOT, under any circumstances, ask for the manager. Whatever dissatisfaction you may be feeling, a short chat with this guy will make it exponentially worse. On 8/8/2014 I went in for my usual car wash. The drivers side came out nice and clean. I wasnt until my next stop that I saw that the passenger side and rear of my car were entirely covered with smudges, streaks and swirls of viscous goop which had combined with the original dirt. I drove right back. The attendant (who was wonderful, by the way) offered to have it washed again for free. Perfect response to a customer complaint. The work is bad, you make it right. Great. But my car was a holy mess, and they let me leave there with it in that condition. I asked to see the manager to show him the condition my car was in. If there was a problem on the line, he needed to fix it.
Unfortunately, a conversation with this guy is a pointless and infuriating endeavor. He is that special combination of condescension, smugness and arrogance that can turn moderate anger into a head-exploding, stroke-inducing rage. He began by vehemently denying responsibility, insisting that I must have driven through some grease after I left. He kept repeating that THEY didn't put it there. I hadn't said that they did. He never let me finish a sentence. The more he made excuses, cut me off, argued and came at me with an indignant how-dare-you-be-mad-at me attitude, the angrier I got. He even captioned the moment by saying, Youre a very angry person. But then, Im guessing anyone walking away from a conversation with this crack diplomat would eventually fit that description.
He alternated between his oft-repeated premise was that road grease had somehow been thrown up onto one side of my car (how it miraculously landed in clearly wiped swirls and streaks, he never explained) and insisting that the car had grease on it when I got there, which he said explained the condition in the back. According to him, the preexisting mystery grease had smeared all over the hatch back area from taking things in and out of it. After the second wash failed to remove much of the problem, he then invited me out of my car to show me that there was indeed grease under my car near the tire (Really? Grease? Under a car? What are the odds?). He said I would need a special solvent to get rid of it, and they didn't have anything like that there, then snarked I KNOW MY JOB! To be fair, if his job is to turn moderate customer annoyance into brain-melting fury, this manager is employee of the freaking century. He didn't need to fix the problem. He needed to be right. I shook his hand before I left and let him think he was.
I drove to the service department at a Toyota dealership to see if they could get my car clean. They did. For free. It took less than 20 minutes. Yes, Auto Spa manager - where you suck, they rock.
F.Y.I. To the Auto Spa manager who knows his job and has righteous resentment for anyone who dares to question his expertise on such complex matters as dirt and grease:
That crap you guys spread all over my car was partly WAX. The wax (and/or grease) mixed with the original dirt. Someone on the line must have been using a rag (or contaminated brush) that needed changing. And before you tell me that it could not have happened because you use clean rags and brushes between each car, and never reuse themnever is a long time, and yeah, it happened. In fact, it has happened before. I was reading some on-line customer complaints and it turns out that someone else had a similar experience. Part of the Auto Spa response to that customer was, we maintain a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If something isn't right with your vehicle, we fix it, no questions asked. To the owner of this business: Seriously, did the Cockeysville manager get this memo? Or did he start an argument with you before you got out the first line?
A preferable way to handle the situation would have been to simply acknowledge the mistake, and offer to do whatever needed to be done to clean it off. At least offer an apology. Gee were sorry about the slip up. We want to keep you as a customer. We hope you come back, etc. As opposed to this guys recipe for customer satisfaction: Dont let the customer talk. Deny responsibility. Dont listen. Get mad at them for getting mad at you. Make it personal. Keep the argument going. Infuriate them with your attitude. Job well done, Sir.
The volume of complaints that feature encounters with "the manager" have me wondering if this is same guy, or if the unequaled ability to enrage people is just a qualification for the position. It seems as if there are enough of us to start a support group for people who have had to deal with this guy.
Good times, good times.

went in on march 18th, 2012. my son dropped his ipod in between the seat upon exiting the car. i could not reach it so i decided to leave it thinking none of my property had ever been taken from any of my vehicles. i was wrong. my sons ipod was stolen while being cleaned. it was the first thing i looked for when i got back in the car and didnt find it. the manager looked thru my car and obviously couldnt find it either. they had me go in and give them my info on a lost item report . this report was a piece of printer paper from the receipt machine. i was then told they would look at the cameras instead of going in and finding the very few people that handled my car and fix the situation. i haven t heard back and my son is devastated. he lost his pictures and videos he had taken himself and on top of that it was a christmas gift to him my $29 car wash turned into a $329 car wash. utterly ridiculous.

Simply the best car wash in town. The first place I have been to with NO water spots on the outside of the car. Go to their website and see what coupons they have available and plan what service you want when you get there -- otherwise it like the waiter who rattles off the specials!

I came to be a customer through Groupon. I couldn't be happier with my experience. The first time you go you shall be amazed. From the initial foray into the wash area your vehicle will be treated with extraordinary care. "Spa" is the best word for all that they do. They will clean all of the mayhem and foolishness from your car and bring back a newness that you swear was gone forever.

Business Response:

Thanks David We appreciate your comments and thank you for your business. We hope to see you again soon
.

We try our best but unfortunately no one is perfect H.D. Auto Spa would have been glad to take care of the problems you have outlined in this review. I apologize you had a bad experience and I have made every effort possible to rectify the problem. I am truly sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you and we hope you'll reconsider trying our services again.

We don't use rags, we use microfiber towels. And no, we don't use water we use window cleaner. We may have accidentally picked up a dirty towel for you windows, and again... I apologize.

No, we don't hang scented trees from the mirror, I would have shampooed the car at no cost to you if this "smell" was that bad. Mind you that we seldom use strong chemicals on basic wash packages, although sometimes they are necessary.

As for the wax on the windows of your car... I have been running this business since it opened and have never seen our products cause that kind of problem... Not to say that it's not possible, just that I have yet to see it.

As for "others" be sure to check over you vehicle before you leave and let us know if your not completely satisfied. If something comes up at a later time, bring it on in or give us a call and we will fix it no questions asked!!!

UPDATED:
I read the merchant response; yeah right. The wax on the EXTERIOR of the windows would not even come off with a razor blade. I had to use an industrial degreaser to get it off. The interior windows were just filthy - clearly (no pun intended) AutoSpa does not use clean rags nor water.

As for the odor - just what I want - the smell of that crappy auto perfume mingling with the smell of adhesive. Do you hang one of the scented trees from the mirror too? You're nuts if you think this is acceptable.

It's nice that you stand behind your product, but I'll NEVER come back. Just a waring to others- maybe you all can call them when they screw up your car.

++

When I got my car back, the interior smelled very strongly like an adhesive. After a week, it still does.

And even though I said no wax or rain-x on the windsheild, there are smears so bad when using the wipers that I can't see at night. Whatever they used, it won't come off.

Every piece of glass in the car is smeared, inside and out. This includes the mirrors. The wheels are still dirty - dirt came off on my fingers.

It's been a week now, and the smell in the car remains. Unfortunately, I may have to go back to have them try to correct the problem, whatever it is, but i really never want to set foot near them again, they're so bad. I'm afraid they'll screw it up even worse.

For $35, I don't expect a detail, but I expect a clean car that at least doesn't smell sickening, and isn't dangerous to drive in the rain.

I can't say it enough: HORRIBLE!

Wow, strong words for no call H.D. :( We at Auto Spa have washed hundreds of thousands of cars and strive towards perfection with every vehicle we handle. For that reason we maintain a 100% satisfaction garuntee. If something isn't right with your vehicle, we fix it, no questions asked. This is nothing a simple phone call to the office can't fix. The windows are smeared from the inside and need to be re-done (has nothing to do with wax or rain-x) and we have a variety of scents available to remove the smell of cleaning solutions. As for "screwing it up even worse" ... Your car isn't damaged in any way and there are simple solutions for these problems. I stand behind our work and invite you to give me a call personally to address the issues you are having -- Brian Barwick, General Manager... 410-683-7222.

I've always had a great experience at Auto Spa. Everyone is so courteous and my vehicle is always spotless and smells great for days. I believe they go above and beyond to make you feel like a valued customer. Especially the managers, who keep a watchful eye and are there on premises to assist you at all times. Kudos to Auto Spa. Looking forward to that award winning website!

Great wash, I go there on a reg basis. Polite staff, and have been there through all phases of the construction. It was always fun to go there and see what changes they have made "THIS WEEK". Well, it's about 20 Bucks and I'm sure thats not for everyone, but seems fair to me. Many people don't relaize that it actually makes your car last longer when you keep it clean.Keep up the good work Guys, but get a food Trailer out there. I have a friend that has such a business and he would love to have a spot on your property.

I will no longer be a patron of the Autospa in Cockeysville. Following a thorough washing I came to find a dent, obviously from too much sustained pressure going from front to rear horizontally and fresh rubber or plastic residue, upon the side of my vehicle. This was a six month vehicle that was and still is very well maintained with no marks or damage. The manager showed me his low-speed, low-resolution camera scan of my vehicle upon entry and during washing to validate his company had no connection. No one could not identify much of anything from these (laughable) "quality assurance" surveillance recordings. Very impenitent in his demeanor and actions.

Business Response:

Car Wash is not likely cause We at Auto Spa attempt to provide the safest and most reliable vehicle care services in the country. We Hand Wash every vehicle that goes through our facility. We do use some high pressure water to clean wheels and rinse the car but it dose not exceed 1500psi. Human hands and pressurized water are not capable of producing enough force to dent a car. Dents are usually caused by contact with another vehicle or inanimate object.

Wow, almost twenty dollars for a car wash seems crazy to me, but there always seems to be a very long line waiting so I had to see what all of the hype was about. My car was definitely clean, but I don't think it was worth the price. I could have gone through a soft cloth car wash and gotten same results. Save your money and do it yourself.

Business Response:

Friction Wash vs. Auto Spa Hand Wash Friction Wash: Cloths are replaced on a yearly basis(if you go to a good one), Dirt sticks to cloth and causes "swirls" in paint, Machines do not have eyes, Machines do not cater to special request, Auto Spa Hand Wash: Our mops are changed and washed hourly, Our mops are dipped in clean water numerous times per car, Our personnel take care with every vehicle, Our services are custom fit to you and your vehicle needs.
.

Being raised the daughter of an automobile dealer I tend to have very high standards when it comes to defining meticulous vehicles. My multiple experiences with this hand wash and detail facility have been consistently impressive. These guys take special care and do a phenomenal job time and time again. They never miss the wheels or interior, and they do do windows. I tell everyone they'll love it. My black Benz has never been happier.

PROS: Inexpensive; hand wash; free coffee
CONS: sometimes I go get a manicure while I'm waiting

Message from Auto Spa

Hello Insider Pages Guru's!! Auto Spa would like to thank all of our loyal customers for helping make this business a success. We have washed hundreds of thousands of cars since our re-opening in 2006!

There have been some reviews expressing concerns over the windows. I'd like to take a minute to address this issue....

First, windows are very difficult to clean... especially those with smoke film on the inside. If you have ever tried to clean the windows in your car you know that it's no easy task. We use a special system that actually injects window cleaner into the towels while they are being washed. The towels are only used once per car and then rewashed. Second... streaks sometimes can only be seen in a certain light from a certain angle. If you can't see it when you leave, chances are we couldn't see it either. Third... the waxes and polishes we use DO NOT adhere to windows. If you have questions regarding our chemicals, how they work or the formulation feel free to email our Ecolab rep (Bill Linzy) at bill.linzy@ecolab.com.

As always... we guarantee your satisfaction. If something isn't right, then we fix it without any questions ask. There are not many car washes out there that have this kind of guarantee.

Thanks for your support and business and we look forward to seeing you again soon!!!!
