I agree with the other users..... all you do is wait wait wait. The high school kids who run the "hospital" could really use a class in time management and manners. A few of the doctors are decent but I feel like none of them actually ever care about anything but their next patient upset about how long they have waited in the room next to me waiting to be seen. This place has become so commercial I am going to Tivo over it.

I did go here for 20 plus years. I took both my cats to the new facility because one had fleas the other was fine. Dr Karan Farnan gave my cat a cortizone shot; I told her that the cat was not scratching and does he really need it "she told me he is scratching when im not looking"???? 2 days later my cat was paralized on my floor and DIED the Next day... THEY KILLED MY CAT..... On top of that they were pushing the more expensive flea medication and told us that is all they had. When I asked about a cheaper one I heard of they said"ohh.. we have that"... THIS PLACE IS NOT THE SAME they lost focus......

I am so pleased with the service and attitudes at Rocky Gorge. I have been a Foster for rescue dogs for 5 years and have been to 3 or 4 different Vets each year. Last year we were introduced to Rocky Gorge. Many of the other Fosters and I drive up to 1 1/2 hours to get to Laurel because Rocky Gorge staff are knowledgeable and caring. Their treatments are superb, they really care about the animals, they provide advice and choices, they treat the dogs like they were their own and they offer discounts to rescues and to financially disadvantaged customers!
Very happy and I am not alone!

Somewhere between the new fancy lobby and the flatscreen tvs, Rocky Gorge forgot what their primary goal should be, and that's caring for animals.

In the old house that stood where the new parking lot is, my dogs received great care from knowledgeable vets. After the new place opened, we got passed around from vet to vet. As the practice grew so did my dogs health problems and my bills.

My dog was finally admitted to the hospital where a "team" of doctors observed him for two days a couldn't figure out that maybe the 6 weeks of antibiotics you had me force-feeding him was killing him. At least they had the good sense to throw in the towel and refer me to Emergency Care before he was dead. It was there someone was finally suggested Pro-biotics and now he's good as new.

I will never step foot in that place again even though I helped pay for it. Ask a neighbor, talk to a friend... someone you know has a good vet.

At Rocky Gorge Animal Hospital in Laurel Maryland all you do is wait, wait, and wait......I had a perscription called in a day ahead of time and was told to come to the back desk and get it, well.......the girl says sign in and we will be right with you, and after 25 minutes later they were with me.........If you have all the time and money in the world, this is the place for you.

I think Dr. Pasekof is an amazing vet. If she were the only part of the clinic or kennel I needed to interact with, I would continue to go there.
I would not recommend Rocky Gorge boarding to people. Because Dr. Pasekof is there, I used their boarding for a couple of years. It was always incredibly difficult. Checking in and out can take 30-45 minutes for 2-3 dogs.
On this last visit (and it was definitely the last visit), I received a call the day before coming home that one dog had diarrhea and they were treating her. The person checking us out was fairly "snippy" about it when I asked what had happened. "Stress" was the most likely answer. However, the next morning another dog had diarrhea and several hours later the third dog did. I called to ask what might be going on and a very defensive person said it couldn't be anything to do with them because all their animals are fine and they don't know what I did to the animals since leaving.
I won't put my dogs through it again.

Rocky Gorge Animal Hospital has addressed this reviewer's particular concern regarding the customer service issue in our resort facility. We appreciate the feedback as it helps us to provide better boarding service in the resort. We would also like to thank the reviewer for the kind words regarding Dr. Pasekof and we will pass them along to her!

I adopted a dog who had previously gone to Rocky Gorge. Even though it isn't the closest Vet to my house, I decided to try it out, since all of her records were there. That was four plus years ago, and I have since switched my other animals to them. The staff is very helpful and knows what they are doing. Each Vet that I have seen has been wonderful, with great bedside manners. I have several times seen Vets/staff members kiss my dog! When she goes in, she thinks she is the queen of the ball, and prances around as such.

I have also boarded her there three times. The last time, I got a call a day before my return where they said that my dog was a little stressed out. They said while they could care for her, they just wanted to let me know. I came back early to get her, and so appreciated the call. She can get funny sometimes when away from me, and I didn't want to leave her there upset.

I was looking for a place to board my boxer puppy for Memorial Day weekend, I had initially decided on Camp Bow Wow in Columbia, MD only to learn that because my puppy would be an intact male after his 6 month birthday he could not attent there for his safety (I totally understand). The man I spoke with suggested Rocky Gorge. I called them and spoke with a very nice man to inquire about stopping by to tour the facility and did so yesterday afternoon. The receptionist was a know it all and annoyed me from the get go but I was not going to base my decision on her. I can not fault them on the facility it was beautiful and clean. I was so impressed by the appearance I called my vet to have them fax shot records so that I could book the reservation this morning. I called this morning to reserve a space for my pup and was told that the person that makes reservations would call me back in 5 minutes... 4 hours later no call. I decided to go with another facility because anyone not willing to return a call is not worth my money and my puppy will be happy elsewhere.

I read all of the reviews of this hospital, seems more positive than not, but of course, the negative stood out to me. I asked before we scheduled for the spaying what drug is used to put them under and if a breathing tube is used. With a big surgery like a spay, of course a breathing tube is used and drugs used on humans is used to put the animal out...

Dr. Rey was amazing with her skill set with our spaying. I am very protective of our dogs, and when they hadn't called by early afternoon to update me, I called them. The receptionist checked on her, assured me everything was ok and when I could pick her up. Minutes later, Dr. Rey called to give me a full update and to discuss aftercare with me. Once we picked our girl up, I was AMAZED by the incision site. For one, it's 3-4 inches long, MAX, (our other experiences with spaying is a HUGE incision, stem to stern). Dr. Rey used sutures to close, not staples, which means she takes her time and does it right, and the price is right. We paid $500 less at Rocky Gorge for a routine procedure than we would have paid in our hometown vet. Dr. Applebaum is also wonderful, we were seen for a stomach virus and she took her time to calm my worries and fixed our pup right up. She's very patient with questions, and answers them with an explanation no matter how silly they may seem to her.

Facility is clean, staff is polite (front desk not 100% personable, check out staff and pharmacy staff are EXCELLENT!!!) and the doctors and techs that I've interacted with know what they're doing. I would recommend Rocky Gorge to anybody in need of knowledgeable vet care.

I have had nothing but a positive experience at Rocky Gorge. I notice comments on here about Dr. Morris and I am sorry that you haven't had a pleasant experience but she takes such good care of ours dogs (yorkie and boxer). Our Yorkie had surgery on his patella and I was so nervous but they took great care of him and he runs around now like nothing ever happened. I would absolutely recommend Rocky Gorge.

When my 10 year old dog had difficulty breathing on Black Friday, the two vets we had been to in the past were 'booked' and made appts for us on Monday or Tuesday. I called Rocky Gorge Animal Hosp and they, too, were booked. However, because of my dog's advanced age and breathing difficulty they squeezed her into the schedule.
Drs. McCormick and Wolchinski (spelling?) took very good care of my girl. Although the long term outcome was not what I wanted, they did ease her pain and relieved her breathing for us to have quality time together and properly say goodbye.
They worked on her until 10:00 pm. I understood what would out next steps would be but I at least had some QUALITY time with her before saying farewell.

Took my cat in for what every vet said was a VERY tricky surgery, and Dr. Sallie Morris performed the surgery perfectly! It was a long drive from Virginia, but well worth it. Great results, helpful staff, and reasonable prices. Dr. Steven Wolchinsky has always been quite nice and helpful, and taken the time to answer our many questions.

I rescued a dog from a shelter in Louisiana that was later diagnosed positive for heartworm infestation! I was angry at the shelter for not disclosing that information and very distressed about the grim diagnosis for my dog's health. I went to Rocky Gorge on a recommendation and loved the facility as soon as I walked in. The staff was very friendly and Roxie actually likes going to the vet now! Our physician was and is Dr. Ray. She is awesome! Very professional, and expert in her treatment plan. Her bedside manner was great also, she explained various courses of treatment, told me why she chose the particular course she wanted to administer in great detail and did not sugar coat or employ euphemisms which I greatly appreciated since I just want the straight truth and the best care I can afford for my dog. Well, the price of treatment is not cheap, but far from the higher prices quoted in a lot of other clinics. You really get what you pay for though and then some. I would recommend them to anyone who loves their animals. Heck, if I broke a leg, I wouldn't mind being treated there. I also have boarded Roxie there during business trips and she has stayed in a 6x6 room (not a cage) with a webcam so I could login during my trip and see her in real-time! How cool is that? Very cool. The staff walk the dogs frequently and the residents can have play time with the other pets too. Also they will feed food you bring with your pet or the food they keep on site. No additional charges for this level of care! It was about $42 per night. The price was still cheaper than a lot of lesser facilities. The staff was very attentive and helpful. I would give them another star if it were possible.

Explored them for kennel facilities for my cats. Being new to the area they gave me a song and dance about my animals vaccines - they would "accept" them but since their vaccines "expire" 8 hours before I can pick them up they will not "release" my animals until they get their vaccines updated by one of their vets, yet they will hold my animals in the kennel for the full day until I get off work to come to the vet appointment - wtf?! Kennel facilities are old and depressing. They won't let the animals have items (bedding, etc) from home. I would take the time to travel the extra miles to take my animals to a different facility. For the amount they are charging - drive the extra distance and take your cats to a different facility.

We like this place alot. The people are always friendly and try to help where ever they can. I am coming here since my dog was a puppy and she is now 11 years old. Today I saw Dr. Applebaum because my dog was feeling sick and I appreciated her honesty and compassion what needed to be done to get my dog out of pain.
Having multiple dogs, I am looking forward to a long relationship with the people at Rocky Gorge. Thank you very much for your help and support over the years.

Sincerely,
Martina Franklin (Cleo & Toby)

I have been going to Rocky Gorge for about 3 yrs. I show, breed and run a rescue. I always see Dr Morris and she has always been wonderful. She has done regular care for me, knee repair, dentals, spays (including a pyo), neuters, hyrnia repair, & c-sections. All of my babies and rescues have come thru with flying colors. I can't thank her enough.

I took my puppy there this morning to get a pre-surgical check-up and get updated on her shots, before her scheduled surgery the next week. This was my first time to Rocky Gorge, and upon arrival I was impressed with their new & modern facilities. Once checked-in and led to the examination room, I was NEVER introduced to the Vet (I have no idea what her name was!) and all she did was use her stethoscope to check my puppy's heart! After letting me know that they were available to do her surgery today, instead of my scheduled appointment a week later, they came in & put the name tag and leash on her, led her away, and everyone left the room. I was left to gather my purse & coat, I actually had to walk out of the exam room and ask the vet (as she was leading another customer into another exam room) if I was "good to go". I had to have my boyfriend pick-up our dog from the vet, and it ended-up costing over $30 more than the exam costs, and I was never even notified IN THE MORNING when I dropped her off that I would have to bring her back in, in 10 days to have the stitches removed. I don't mind having to do that, but I feel as though I should have had everything explained to me fully - especially the fact that I'd have to bring her back to have the stitches removed (and probably be charged for that too!). BESIDES all of that, I don't feel as though any of the staff was personable at all - to me, my puppies are my children and I should have been given a more personable experience as a client to their practice. You can be sure that I will NEVER, ever, recommend this vet to anyone!!!

Business Response:

We are currently working to improve our morning surgery check-in and our surgical discharge process to ensure that all information is covered. Your review will be passed to our head veterinarian to ensure your particular experience is resolved and does not happen in the future. Our client coordinators will also be informed so they may review it with their staff to improve the customer experience.

I have taken my animals to Rocky Gorge for 15 years and have
never had a problem. They have saved my dogs many times and have seen me through the loss of 2 dogs in the past year. I am now
having to make the decision to have a 3rd dog put to sleep because of his health. The staff and doctors at Rocky Gorge have made these losses a little easier to deal with because of their compassion for both the pet and the owner. I have dealt with Dr. Wolchinsky and Dr. Morris most of the time and I find them to be very good doctors. I will always take my animals there and would highly recommend them to family and friends.

I have dealt with Dr. Wolchinsky and Dr. Morris most of the time and I find them to be very good doctors. I will always take my animals there and would highly recommend them to family and friends.

I have been taking my pets to Rocky Gorge for several years now and can't say enough good about them. We've seen a number of the different doctors, Dr. Wolchinsky, Dr. Farnun, Dr. Appelbaum, Dr. Morris, Dr. Pasekoff and Dr. Hirth. They have all been amazing, treating us and our loved ones with great care and kindness.

Just last week, Dr. Farnun operated to remove a growth from the nose of my best buddy (my dog). He has done fantastic from the word go! Happy to go in to the vet, wagging his tail and enjoying visiting everyone on the way in, and of course, happy to see me and come home that evening. His nose is healing beautifully.

When my daughters cat had to be euthanized, we were all heart broken. He was adopted as an adult cat, for her 5th birthday present and she was then a Senior in High School. Rocky Gorge had a private room where they allowed us all the time we needed to say our goodbyes....and I can tell you, we took a long time, with no pressure.

The lodging facilities are amazing. No CAGES!!!! Every pet has a ROOM. Most rooms have web-cams, and about half have external windows. The rooms range in size from about 4 1/2 foot square to 6 1/2 foot square so the animals have lots of room to move around and be comfortable. They are walked numerous times every day, and taken to one of the 4 play-yards out back to just run and have fun. They can use their food, or yours if you bring it and are able to administer your pets medications if necessary and there is no extra charge for any of this. It's great to know that while your pet is "at their own Resort" having fun, the doctors are just a few steps away if an emergency were to arise.

Having taken my pets here for years, I can tell you this is the best place around, Hands Down!

PS...If you have to wait a short time in the lobby to see the doctor, keep in mind, that's indicative of the time and attention they give to ALL PETS and OWNERS! And relax and enjoy a free flavored coffee or Cappuccino and watch animal planet while you wait to be called.

I took my 13 week old Yorkie puppy to see Dr. Applebaum last week and she was AWESOME! Very professional, informative, patient and personable and I look forward to future visits there.

Their new location is beautiful and the grooming salon downstairs is outstanding. Very clean, well-organized and welcoming.

I look forward to many years with Rocky Gorge.

My puppy had mange and needed to be treated and kept over night once a week. Every time they took him to the basement kennels he tried to pull and get away so one time I asked to go see him downstairs and I saw what they were doing. They didn't know I was there. They were hitting the cages and screaming at the animals to do this or that.

Another time my dog split his toenail all the way up into his foot longways and it had to be trimmed short. They held him down and pressed his nail out as far as it would come and cut it off. Blood went everywhere. The dog bit his tongue in pain and passed out.
I actually thought he died right there on the table! The vet said well Thats done and no hes not dead! It took several minutes for him to come to. I hate that place! New or not!

this place has a nice new boarding facilty. I toured it recently. They have webcam and an outside exercise area. They feed your own food and give treats and dogs can have windows.

We have been very happy with the care that we have received for both our dogs and cats. The staff are professional and very good at diagnosing. Recently our vet drew blood and urine from our cat and he didn't even cry out. Very impressive. The new facilities are beautiful but what's more important is the good care our pets have received.

I only went their once, but Dr. Pasakoff and all the techs were extremely kind and wonderful. I was a complete mess because I had to say goodbye to my sweet little friend, but the staff were so nice and gave me all the time I needed and several of them, including the doctor, shared their own stories of loss with me while they cared for my boy. They all did exactly what I would have wanted and needed in that incredibly difficult time. I used to work at a different pet hospital and I have been to many other vets in my life, and all I can say is that I am so grateful to have been at Rocky Gorge for that sad time. They really helped me, and my Charlie.

My cat, Kitty, was hit by a car on Halloween night 2007. He was gone for two days and I knew something was wrong, as he never misses a meal. Once he made his long trip home, only to find him laying in the grass at the end of yard, we saw he was in need of emergency care.

We took Kitty to Annapolis ER. They told me it would cost $3,000 to have his leg amputated or I needed to put him down because the bone would never heal correctly. I did not have $3000! And, I wasn't sure how I was going to pay for any of the vet bills. They kept him overnight and gave him meds. That gave me time to think about things and time for Kitty to rest. (The bill for the night @ the ER was $800.)

Kitty is a cat who acts like a dog. He has protected my son from a stray dog in our yard, a dog 4 times his size. He knows how to tell me when he wants food/water or if wants me to clean to poop out of of his litter box. He loves to play, and he is great with kids. Why would I put him down?

I called Rocky Gorge, and they had me speak to Dr. Morris. She told me to bring Kitty from the ER to Rocky Gorge right away and she would do surgery that day. I told her my concerns with payment and she told me that we would work that out. She said she would not amputate his leg, rather she would insert a pin and he would have to stay in a cage for 6 weeks.

Kitty is now a happy and healthy, four-legged, in-door, cat. I love everyday that I get to spend with him. Thanks to Dr. Morris and Rocky Gorge, Kitty gets a second chance!!!

I have been involved in dogs for over 27 years. This includes pets and competition dogs. Rocky Gorge has always done a great job and helped me keep my dogs healthy and fit. Over the years my older dogs were boarded there because of their really advanced age. Upon picking them up they were in better condition than before and well exercised!

Not all the vets there have the same quality experience. I am a breeder of show and performance dogs and need quality care for my animals, which is what I expect for any pet. I don't want a vet that cannot tell me more than I already know! I also expect a vet to tell me exactly what is necessary and not soft-touch the information. Dr. Morris' expertize is wonderful! Her knowledge of alternative medical care has kept my show dogs in great shape! Her personal knowledge of breeding goes far beyond the text books [which I have also read]. Her judgement calls have been right on the money. That is also why I go to her for all my dogs' surgery.

Whenever I have a problem with my dogs, I will only see Drs. Morris, Wolchinsky, and Farnan. I have referred many people to Rocky Goerge when they have not been treated well elsewhere.

I see no reason to change as long as I can count of this quality of care.

I have had some good experiences there with vets, but recently had a terrible experience there with a Dr. Pasekoff - she called my cat a "jerk" because he becomes aggressive when frightened and wouldn't look at his teeth, even though he was immobilized. She pointed to a chart on the wall and said "Here's what to look for." Wait a minute, isn't this what I pay you to do? They are building a new facility, but it's been very slow construction, and the current facility is way, way too small and crowded. Many staff are friendly but again my experience having my pet called a jerk left me not able to recommend this place

I have been to Rocky Gorge several times myself. I have visited with my two puppies and have seen almost every doctor who works at the facility. I think people misunderstand how Dr. Morris works. She is a great doctor, who knows her stuff, and I don't think folks know how to handle her personality. I think that is where people go wrong and say that she is a horrible doctor. She is firm, she knows animals, and she gets the job done. I had only one bad experience with Dr. Morris where she had taken some bandages off my dog and she took some skin and fur off of the dog-but to me-that could have happened to anyone. I feel it was just an accident and she quickly fixed.

My husband and I have been very happy with Dr. Morris, Dr. Jones, Dr. Mott and Dr. Wolchinsky as well. They have all seen my dogs and they are very thorough and explain things so we understand what is going on with the dogs. Everyone of them has been professional and has had good customer service. They seem to really take their time and care about your pets situation. I think that Rocky Gorge is one of the best clinics I have ever been too-and I have worked and been to many. So far I would have to rate this clinic the most personable and reliable vet clinic in the Maryland area.

I generally do not take the time to comment on these sites about vets, but felt compelled to to make a recommendation for Dr. Sallie Morris, particularly since I read some negative comments about her here. First of all Dr. Morris is one of the few vets that is definitely not in it for the money. She volunteers a long day every week to a spay/neuter clinic to provide services to shelter animals and people with limited income. I have been involved in pug rescue for many years, and about 4 years ago, I took a pug to the emergency vet and spent almost $2000 to have an infected mammary gland treated. The emergency vet released the pug to me with a pyometria (infected uterus). I contacted Dr. Morris on a Sunday morning, when I knew this dog was dying. She cancelled her personal plans and met me at the clinic and performed emergency surgery to remove the dog's uterus. Within a short time, the dog was up and moving around, her color was normal and her fever was gone. She fully recovered. Dr. Morris also supported me in my subsequent lawsuit against the emergency clinic, which resulted in a settlement in my favor. Dr. Morris charged me $150 for coming in on a Sunday and performing extensive and lifesaving surgery on this pug. She, frankly, didn't even want to take that, but I insisted. We have taken dogs to her that other surgeons gave up hope on and she healed them. She is not only compassionate but extremely skilled. She is an asset to the animal rescue community and to all pet owners in this area. I highly recommend her. - Maryland Pug Rescue

I would not see anyone besides Dr. Wilcynski there. I saw Dr. Sally Morris once because he was not in. She wanted me to get radiation treatment for my cat's thyroid condition which was already being treated with medication. I had read about pet radiation treatment for thyroid and knew how potentially horrible the treatment could be for the pet (the dangers in radiation, plus it is traumatic for the pet because you are not allowed to hold the pet for days after so you don't get "contaminated.") When I said no she started screaming at me and insulting me for being irresponsible, a bad owner etc. 2 weeks later I was told by the clinic that "we don't use radiation anymore because there are newer and better things now". I have also seen them being rough with animals so you should INSIST on being with your animal at all times for tests, procedures, shots, etc. My personal feelings are that if you can't get Dr. Wylcynski, don't go.

My neighbor told me about Rocky Gorge. She has 7 cats and had tried several places in Laurel; told me they were great. . I moved from Frederick and was still taking my dogs there. I decided to make the switch, and am very happy! I also have a rabbit, and quickly found out that whether it is a dog or rabbit, the Doctors are knowledgeable, and reasonably priced as well... Doctors are great and so is the Staff. I was impressed I could call the doctor during a weekend, and he called back and helped. I was impressed they have an hour Sunday when you could take your pet if you needed to. I think this place is the best place I have found so far, and I have had pets all my life.

I have taken my dogs to Rocky Gorge many times, and have had both good and bad experiences. I like to treat my animals holistically, so I would never again see any vet other than Sallie Morris. She is wonderful, and she will treat your pets either holistically or conventionally. I highly recommend her as a vet, although, if you are holistically minded, I caution against seeing any of the other vets in this practice.

PROS: Holistic pet care
CONS: Not all of the vets respect holistic approaches

Funny how your pets know when they are going to the vet, isn't it? If the vets at Rocky Gorge are taking care of your furry friends, then they may just beg you to take them! The staff at Rocky Gorge makes it easy on their humans too, you don't always need an appointment, they are up to date on the latest in animal doctoring and they love animals, they're pet mommies and daddies too! The spacious waiting room is also a plus, in case your Fido doesn't like Sparky whose human is sitting next to you, you can keep him on the other side of the room. A great place for pets!
