When dropping off my two dogs for an emergency bath (they had gotten out and into a marshy area behind our house) I told the staff several times that my sheperd with dysplasia needed to be handled very carefully and gently. She came home so sore I had to put her on a three day course of NSAID's. This had never happened with any other groomer we used. I will not allow them to handle my dogs again.

The grooming section is TERRIBLE. I took my german shepherd in for the full package a few days ago and it was the worst experience I've had with any dog groomer.

The staff is extremly rude and lazy - they will stand around and wait 10 minutes before helping you (just like the other person said). Besides how disrepectfull they were, the actual service was subpar. I picked my dog up after they said he was finished.

He had balls of loose fur sticking up all over his coat, obviously no one had touched him with a brush. When I asked her to brush him the girl gave me a ton of attitude even though that is what i paid them for. When I took him home I noticed his nails had NOT been trimmed, and he still had mudd all over his belly! So they did not brush him, trim his nails, and did a bad job bathing him.

When I talked to the manager he refused to give me a refund or re-bathe him

PETSMART GERMANTOWN, MD is not so good anymore.

Yes, grooming salon staff does seem lazy. Employee morale is horrible.

When you find a good person, they soon leave.

I got my large, long haired dog a Bath Package. The bath was great but, a shedding tool was not used so my dog had a lots and lots of shedding hair still coming out when he was finished.

During the brush-out, it is appropriate to use a shedding tool to take out excess dead shedding hair. That is expected when getting a bath, blow dry & brushing. I always tip at least 20%. I expect a great job for a bath price of $65.00 plus a $13.00+ tip. The groomer said using the shedding tool was extra. EXTRA? WTH???...It is expected that a Groomer use the APPROPRIATE TOOL TO DO THE JOB! I promptly called the District Manager to tell them. If I get 15 minutes of brushing with a bath package, what does it matter what brush is used? That attitude is taking advantage of the customer and I did not appreciate trying to upsell me. He agreed.

I also will say that years ago I witnessed my very sweet, older large dog being treated unnecessarily rough and without compassion for my dogs age, which was 14 years old with Hip Dysplasia (The Groomer is a tall chunky woman with blondish hair -been there at that location for many years). - I Hate her! And would never use her!

Do not be afraid to ask for them to correct anything you don't like. It's your hard earned money! If there is any problem at all, ask the store manager for the District Manager's telephone number and call him to get satisfaction. The Manager will try not to give you the telephone number, (because they doesn't want to get their store in trouble) but per persistent and tell them that you demand it. You will get it, even if you have to contact PETSMART Customer relations.

>I recommend staying (out of sight) and watch through the glass how they treat your pet.

PS: You know why Petsmart installed the glass don't you? So the groomers could be watched.

I went to pick up my puppy, I could hear him crying in the back. There were 4 ladies all standing around & only 1 working. It was 10am & they were all so slow. I waited 8mins for them to help me & during this I told the lady - "OMG that's my puppy crying". She gave me the receipt & said "you need to pay at the cashier". There was no one at the cashier, I had to wait 5mins for someone. I rushed back & the ladies were still lounging around - I could still hear my pup crying. Finally 1 got up to get my pup. When she handed him to me, she didn't even smile, say good morning or even a hi, she just handed him over. I stood there looking at him to make sure he hadn't hurt himself. No one asked if I had any questions or even said good bye. I was SO DISSATISFIED, with the service I received from this PetSmart grooming! I luv the store BUT can't believe how they treated me & my Yorkie!

I purchased a parakeet, that was ill that i identified, 4-day's after bringing it home to my older bird of 1-year!, I conctacted the store manager in concord,ca. and the districst manager, they said they would pay for the diagnosis and treatment of both animals, two-petsmart employees transported me to a banfield hospital several towns away, i suggested a closer location/veterinarian specialist, they chose-banfield!, the vet, there seemed very imcompitent with the diagnosis and yet wanted to treat the birds for an infection told to me that was highly contagois that their sick animal had,i was told to seperate them.i did,i then was transported to a specialist with the older bird, to get diagnosis, leaving the "contagois' bird at banfield hosp.while i was @ the bird specialist vet., the two petsmart employees left me at the specialist office and they "STOLE" the contagoise bird from banfield without my knowledge or consent,i am the owner of that animal!i reported the theft to the police dept. and attempted to do a police standby to retreive my sick bird, the manger told the police if i did not accept payment-refund for the bird i would be arrested! and not allowed on the property again!i didn't accept the money, i now have to file-suit aganst them! and the corporate offices after telling me that the employees had no-right to move that animal, now are telling me not to contact them, and the case is closed!they are not going to pay for my older bird to be treated as a result of the exposer from their ill-bird i bought! that it now having breathing problems! occured 6/13/07! DO-NOT PURCHASE AN ANIMAL FROM PETSMART-EVER! AND NEVER TRUST ANY OF THEIR EMPLOYEES!MNGR.,ETC! I NOW HAVE SUE THEM AND THE STRESS OVER THEM STEALING MY SICK BIRD FROM BANFIELD HOSPITAL IS MAKING VERY ILL BUT I HAVE TO DO IT, WHERES THE JUSTICE IN THIS?AND CORPORATE REFUSES TO TELL ME THE NAME OF THE CEO-THERE,ETC. The Germantown Petsmart is one of my favorite pet stores -- they usually have exactly what I need for my horses, birds, fish, cavy, and chinchilla. The employees in the pet care department are very knowledgeable -- and when they don't know an answer to a question, they're very good about finding another employee or a manager who can help. As a pet lover, I'm always glad to see that they take very good care of their animals, and that they enjoy taking care of them. I bought my sun conure there -- she's a very sweet hand-fed bird, and they gave me a hatch certificate with my conure's hatch date!

Two complaints, though. One, they don't carry a wide enough selection of medium to larger parrot cages (and they have too many small cages -- unfortunately, the store employees themselves don't have much say in what the store sells. At least the store employees know that small birds like canaries, finches, and budgies cannot stay healthy cooped up in small cages -- I'm not so sure about the overall company's marketing employees).

Two, the vet next door (called Banfield) is just fine for dogs and cats -- but they know next to nothing about small mammals (they mis-diagnosed my newly-bought cavy as having ringworm, who subsequently worsened; three weeks later, I took him to an exotic specialist vet, who successfully treated my cavy's mite infestation, NOT ringworm). A friend of mine had her bird mis-diagnosed at Banfield as well. Do NOT take your exotics (small animals, birds, and reptiles) to Banfield.

PROS: Knowledgeable and helpful employees; quality animal care
CONS: Very busy on weekend afternoons; Banfield vet is NOT good for exotics/birds

This Petsmart is bigger than the nearby one in Gaithersburg, which is the one I frequent more, but I still like to come here for options in times when Gaithersburg store doesn't carry certain things. This store has more items than the other Petsmart and I am not sure if it's my imagination or not, but it seems that this one has fewer animal shoppers than other Petsmarts. The store is spacey and comfortable, and it's nice to browse around the bright and open store. They also have an animal clinic, which would make it very convenient for pet owners to take their pet here as a total-one-stop-shop.

PROS: Big Petsmart and has Animal Clinic
CONS: Fewer animal shoppers?
