I have been going to Walt Eger for a short while now and I am very happy with there service. Last oil change I told them to do the brakes as I dont remember when if ever having them done, when I got the call brakes are fine and all the other services are up to date just needed oil and a light. How honest is that! Ill be back, now I know why so many have been going to Walt for so long.

These guys are great!
I had a problem with my car and after 2 other shops could not fix it I was going to trade it in, a friend told me about Walt Eger so I though I'll let them try. When I dropped it off I talked directly to Walt and he put me at ease he said they would find the problem and I will not have to trade her in. I am happy to say Walt did as promised he found the problem then gave my car the ole once over and said everything looks good. I am so glad I found them A+

They told me I needed a new starter and battery to get my car started. When I picked up my car they charged me for both. 541.00 dollars...For a starter and battery...C'mon now! I said ok, whatever, and paid...knowing I was never bringing my car back here. Then I go out to my car and check the work...The battery was never replaced...So...#1 they lied and told me I needed a new battery when I didnt, #2 charged me for it, #3 never even replaced it!!! Stay Away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been going to Walt's for many years. I started there b/c it was convenient to where I lived. Now I continue to go there because when I walk out the door after having paid, I don't feel as though I was ripped off. I find Walt's prices to be comparable to other service centers in the area but his customer service compares to no one else! Randy has always been very courteous and I hope he continues to work there for many more years to come. And I love that they have a courtesy van.

I took my car in for the 110k mile check up. I asked them to do a bunch of stuff and generally check the car over. They called me later that day with an estimate which was over $1,000. It sounded high for an Acura but it had been a while since I had my car in the shop. About a month later I called them back because some rattling they had addressed the first time had come back. Again I received a call that afternoon and they told me that my front brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. I was quite upset since the car had been in there a month prior for a complete look over and they didn't catch the front brakes issue. I had to go ahead with the repair since the front inside brake pads were so thin. Looking at the bill they charged almost double for the rotors. It seems like they do good work and the shop is very convenient but they certainly are expensive. Make sure you get a written quote so you can haggle.

My car came to a shuddering halt and the brakes were smoking. I mean, they were really hot like a nuclear meltdown was taking place on the right front wheel! I have a 1984 Dodge 600 and it is in really good shape. I don't drive it much, so maybe I should have paid more attention to the brakes. I dunno. Anyway, I called Walt Eger and he towed me and my car to the shop. And then me even gave me a ride to the light rail. They did a stellar job of overhauling the brakes and while they were at it, the muffler had gotten holy and gone to heaven so I had them install a new one and change the oil. What a difference it made and the price was very fair. Now I can hear the radio! I must add that the staff was friendly and courteous and the waiting room is like an art room exhibit. I really love the gas pump in the waiting room, it is even older than my Dodge car! The gas pump is set up for dispensing water. It is wonderful and the front of the facility is immaculate -- it doesn't look like a garage, it looks really nice!

My jeep had a leak somewhere on the gas tank. Since it is 17 years old, i figured i would need a new gas tank. Well, no. Not really. It was just a silly hose that cost me $15 plus some labor time to install it. This shop is really honest because they could have easily sold me the whole kit and caboodle -- gas tank and all! And they were very friendly and nice to me, not talking down to me or acting like they were doing me a favor!

We have 6 vehicles in our family and we will bring them all to Walt's. We have tried other service places. They tried to sell me all sorts of work that did not need to be done(got a 2nd opinion). Walt is honest and stands behind their work and when he says something needs to be done (got a 2nd opinion), it really needed to be done. I now trust his shop with out the need to get a 2nd opinions.

I went here after reading these reviews and others I found online when I started having brake problems. The staff was very courteous, I dropped my vehicle off in the morning and was given a shuttle ride back home. Got a call that afternoon giving me the necessary repairs and recommended extras, they broke down both prices at my request and I was able to get the service I needed that was affordable for me. I'm going back there for my car's 70k mile checkup, hopefully this experience will be just as fair...

I do not consider the service provided to me to have been quick, thorough or 'cost saving' - in any measure of the terms commonly thought-of.

Had a 'Check Engine' light, so I made an appointment for Tuesday, and dropped the truck off early. No calls to me whatsoever that day, so finally I called them - to hear that the diagnosis PC/machine was not working, and they might get to it tomorrow...

Waited all day Wednesday, and finally got a call around 3:30-4:00 PM, stating that there was a problem with the fuel system, requiring a replacement part. I indicated that if that was what was necessary, I would approve it.

Finally got a call Thursday afternoon, saying that the truck was ready - and I picked it up Friday Morning.

Now, my problem(s) with the diagnosis and what was done:
- Diagnosis was almost $160. I don't know what their rates are, but this seems extreme just to plug it in to a PC and have the truck tell you what's wrong with it.

- I found out that the part that was replaced was the gas filler/vent pipe, said to be 'leaking'. I find it highly unlikely that this needed to be replaced. It is doubtful that the gas filler/vent unit (which is all metal, and looks new) went 'bad'. More than likely, there was a problem with a rubber hose, a clamp, or a seal had come loose - or maybe the gas cap MIGHT have needed to be replaced - Which would have been MUCH less than the cost for the part and the labor necessary to replace the entire unit. Who knows, maybe the gas cap just needed to be wiped-off/cleaned (?)...

Essentially, they took out what I believe to be a good part, unnecessarily replaced - without an adequate diagnosis of what was actually wrong.

This was a $500 repair bill, which probably should have only cost less than $100 - ($200 if you include the $160 'diagnosis'.

- A lack of communication;
- From what I could determine there little in the way of troubleshooting - they just read what the computer said, and replaced parts;

The 'Check Engine' light isn't on anymore, but that's about the only positive thing I can say...

I also went to Walt's after reading the reviews here--after being disgusted by the conspicuous dearth of anything resembling an "honest mechanic" in this area. I'm delighted to report that I've found one at last, and would recommend Walt Eger's without hesitation to anyone who wants his or her car professionally managed at a fair price by people who put integrity before profit. Walt and his crew are amazing--considerate, efficient, and pleasant to deal with, and they even provide wi-fi for those of us who can telework while waiting at the station. I don't make recommendations lightly, but it is my pleasure to give this one. Walt is an "old time craftsman" in every sense of the word, and a delightful anachronism in an industry that increasingly seems to put self-interest before customer service. Parts and labor are expensive--no doubt. But if like me you seek a mechanic who will do what needs to be done without continually increasing the cost (and delivery) for this and that and the other thing that he found whilst fixing what you came in for, every time you bring the car in, Walt's your man! I'm a firm believer in shopping around for various service people until you find someone you can trust. I've found "my mechanic"--and if you follow the recommendations here, you have, too!

I went to Walt's after reading the reviews here. I was doubtful but Randy was cheerful and helpful. Told me it might take two days to repair my BMW but they'd try to get it done in one day if they could get all the parts. Took the car in and dropped it off. Later called and asked if they'd look at other issues that my dealer had brought up. Turns out half of the items weren't necessary but Walt's folks found a few items that were very necessary in addition to what was previously identified. They made the repairs and still had it done in a day. Not only that, they did it with a smile and a price that matched my wallet. I'll be going back here with all my cars.

My last review on Walt Eger's Service Center was five years ago and as you can see I am still a dedicated customer of his. From the standard required vehicle maintenance to fixing the problems that come up on occassion, Walt and his team have done and continue to do a GREAT job. I have recommended his company to many friends and neighbors. Additionally, Walt recognizes the service of our Marines and other military personnel and provides a discount to all who have or still do wear the uniform of our great nation. Walt is a class act and he is my go to guy for car repair.
*****
I have been dealing with Walt Eger and his staff for the past 3 years and can attest that he is an extremely capable mechanic. I trust him and I trust his judgement in matters pertaining to all of my vehicles. He is honest and cannot do enough for you. He has my most enthusiastic recommendation.

I first went to Walt Egers' after a recommendation of a neighbor and seeing his commercials. This was due to the fact that the dealer wanted to charge me over $600 for fixing a power window and was rude. Walt did for just over $400. Because of his down to earthiness and honesty I have be going there ever since - taking both my cars for everything.

I was told about Walt Eger's garage a while back after having a problem with my van. I had just moved to Severn, MD and didn't know of any place that I could take my vehicle for repair. So, that suggestion that I take the van to Walt Eger's was taken with a grain of salt. I sauntered over to Grimm Rd to this off the beaten path garage. Out came Mr. Eger. He asked what the problem was and told me to pop the hood. He commenced diagnosing the problem and told me that I needed some hoses replaced and that he could take me right in to the shop and I would be out in no time. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. He could have told me that the problem was something a lot more expensive to repair, but the hose replacement and labor totalled about $40.00 and the problem went right away. After my visit, I began to notice that Walt Eger ran a local television commercial. The main point in his commercial was that he was honest. I could not agree more. Thanks Walt!

PROS: Great service, knowledgeable mechanics, quick and accurate repairs.
CONS: Sofa in waiting room is a bit uncomfortable.
