From suburban to "cool" 4
When I moved to the suburbs (Silver Spring), I kept getting really boring haircuts. I kept asking for a haircut like Rod Stewart used to have, or like a rocker boy (I'm female). Salon Jam knew that I wanted a long shag/layered, and I have been happy ever since. When Melissa came on board, I always have her cut my hair, and am always satisfied.

not for me 1
I have been there a number of times over the years, including before the name change. I've had indifferent cuts and weirdly bad cuts. The prices are too high for the quality of the cuts. Like someone else said, for this I could go to hair cuttery. I've seen people come out with nice cuts, but they were younger than I. I get the impression that unless you're well known to the staff, either by virtue of working locally or being a frequent customer, there is no value put on providing a great cut or a pleasant experience. I prefer to go local but not here.

Salon Jam 5
I have had nothing but excellent service from Salon Jam. I would recommend them to anyone. Matthew I believe is the more skilled colourist, Although quiet sometimes, "I think he's concentrating" does some amazing work and has me as a client for life! He could easily charge much more for his work, and I would be willing to pay for that quality work. Only complaint would be the salon could be a little cleaner.

disappointing! 2
I had the most offensive haircut-experience of my many years. I chose the salon based on the positive online reviews but, the stylist I got was relatively new there and sorry to say, deserves a negative review. I came in for just a simple haircut, nothing fancy. While washing my hair, she asked me if I'd like my eyebrows waxed. If I felt the need to wax them, I would have asked. Then, after barely cutting my hair, though poorly with no shape as I had asked for, she begins to blow-dry and straighten out all my curls. I have curly hair. Did I ask for straight hair? Then when I said, "where did all my curls go", she said, "Oh, I'll put some cream in after it's dry to curl it up." Why? It's already curly. And when that didn't work and looked obviously surprised at the awful hair cut, she offered to curl my hair back with curlers.??? Finally, when paying with my credit card, she loudly asked if I wanted to pay the $40 even. Naturally, if I really wanted to tip her, I would have spoken up. Anyhow, to avoid embarrassment and to send her a message I gave the minimum 10% tip. Sorry to have to type this but all the positive reviews appear to be about other stylists.

Salon Jam, Takoma Park 5
Salon Jam is great. It's just the way a salon ought to be - relaxing, fun, hip, great displays of hair products and interesting conversation. I've never seen anyone leave the shop with anything less than a great hair cut. My personal favorite, however is Melissa. I've gone to her for years. I really don't want to have anyone else cut my hair ever!

Okay but not great 3
I've had my hair cut there three times. One cut I really liked, but the other two were a bit disappointing. The last time they charged me $45 (with shampoo and blowdrying but not including tip) for a cut that Hair Cuttery could do.

Melissa is fantastic 4

Salon Jam
I used to frequent much more expensive salons in Downtown DC because they knew how to do great highlights and cut hair in less conservative ways than I found at less expensive places. Well, Melissa made me a convert to Salon Jam where highlights are *much* more reasonable. She also does a great job giving me fun and funky haircuts and she's a lot of fun to chat with.

three years of good cuts 5

Salon Jam
Melissa is great. Before I found her, I never had a stylist who I let cut my hair more than twice. Melissa is also really good at remembering how you like it, but she always asks how you want it!

Quick in-and-out 5
My friend recommended this place to me. I used to go all the way to Bethesda since it was always hard for me to find a good hairstylist. Well, I found one in Salon Jam! Melissa is very quick, efficient, friendly and listens to my needs. I get color and cut in about an hour..Jon is very nice and funny guy. Very enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this place - prices are very reasonable.

Hair Health 5
When I first visited this shop, my hair was very dry, damaged, with breakage due to my misuse of chemical products. In what seemed to be no time at all, they returned my hair to its healthy, shiny, lustrous, natural state. With a program of deep conditioning, regularly scheduled trims, and other treatments, my hair was no longer breaking each time I combed it. Highly recommended!

Good place for a quick Haircut 4
My family has been going to this salon since long before John, the current owner, was in charge. The prices are still very good and the salon itself has seemed to have improved since John took over. It now looks like a chicher place, with hipper wall colors and cooler music setting a more modern atmosphere. Also, the stylists are very friendly and overall good at what they do. For a quick and cheap cut, I definitely recommend John who will cut your hair so fast that you won't know what hit you. Sean is very good, altough more technical and a calls for a longer appointment. They also do coloring, and a variety of other procedures that I personally have never had done. However, for more complicated procedures or styles, I might look for a different stop. Salon Jam is good at what it does, but not necessarily the best. Although, around here, they are definitely on the top.
PROS: Quick, inexpensive haircuts, hip, modern atmosphere
CONS: Not the best for complicated styles
