Amber I have to agree with you I visited Mustard seed the other day and you are absolutely correct, their attitudes stink and they do need to check it at the door. So, far I have only experienced this with the men.

HORRIBLE ATTITUDES AT MUSTARD SEED. I had new clothing and boxes of shoes with tags that have been sitting in my closet for about 1 year (can no longer return them to the store). I made an appointment to sell these items and when I walked in to the empty store, the manager (Derrick) was so rude. I said that the clothes were new and he wouldn't even look at them. He said all new clothes must be accompanied with a receipt, it's their policy and it's on the website. I did not have a receipt for my items that I purchased last year, so he wouldn't even look at my items, just because they were new?? No options, no "sorry you came out and didn't know our policy..." Nothing. Rather, he made me feel as though I were a thief, keeping his distance. Here I thought they would welcome 7 boxes of new Michael Antonio shoes rather than stained clothing. Nope, they prefer stained clothing (and these people are supposed to have fashion sense...not by what they were wearing). And looking at the website, the only mention of this so called "policy" is that they "appreciate" receipts when customers bring in new clothing. So, this was not a mandatory policy after all, but rather a suggestion when bringing in new clothing. I have been shopping here since 1994 with MANY friends...after sharing my experience, WE will never go back. If you look at the reviews, Mustard Seed started out great several years ago, and now their ratings are diminishing. I believe an attitude check is in order...these folks think they work at Bergdorff in NY...hello, you are a thrift store next to a carpet depot. Check your attitudes at the door and treat people better!

I've been here twice and been underwhelmed by the selection of clothes. They seem to target 15-25 years (lots of glorified cotton tee shirts and tanks). They have some dressier items but not really work clothes or casual nicer items. They have a decent selection of jeans, which is one reason to go. They also have some new items but they aren't that interesting or unique - I'd rather go to a dept. store for nicer clothes at that price. It seems like they have a specific type of genre rather than pieces that may appeal to a wider audience.

This Vintage/consignment shop caters to a somewhat younger crowd than the local Salvation Army or Goodwill, and are consequently more expensive than any of these general second-hand stores are. They have a nice assortment of women's tops, jeans, and skirts, as well as some men's clothing and lots of cute accessories. They buy clothes, but you only if they are trendy enough to sell in this area of Bethesda, which means you are best off if you've got some name brands in your pile. It is fairly accessible since it is pretty close to the metro and there is a parking lot with meters around the corner.

This is a reasonable second hand store, they have many staples like jeans and tshirts. Once in a while you will find some really interesting and unusual items, but much of it is pretty standard fare. They will also buy alot of your nicer quality items and of course anything with a tag!

This is one of my favorite stores to visit near the Bethesda metro shop. They sell both new and gently used clothed. The used clothes are mostly modern stuff, such as you would find at the Gap and Banana Republic, with some offbeat things from previous decades thrown in. The prices, particularly on the used goods, are very reasonable. Most shirts are $5 to $10 and so on. It's a bit more expensive than a thrift store but the quality and selection is so much better.

Mustard seed sells a lot of quality clothing that are vintage and very stylish. The owner is very nice, they can also sell anything you are looking to sell such as clothes, accessories, etc. You will get half of the selling price. You get your money right away. Located by United Artist movie theatres on wisconsin ave. If not to sell come here to buy they have a variety to choose from.

Whether you're looking for new fashionable clothes, or quirky vintage clothes and accessories, the mustard seed always has great finds. The prices on the vintage items are incredible! The selection of shoes isn't really great, but the ones they do have are really cute. The accessories are also really unique, especially the jewelry.

PROS: well priced, cute items, unique styles
CONS: small store
