I called them to see if they would install a car stereo that I purchased elsewhere. They said they would. Then I asked him how much it would cost to install. He said he couldn't tell me over the phone - I would have to come in and show him the car. What? He doesn't have access to a computer and he can't plug my car into some database to figure out what it would take? So I went in on my lunch break and had him look at my car. I hadn't actually bought a stereo yet, and I looked at a stereo he had in his shop. He gave me a price of $450 to do the whole job. He never itemized things so I could tell exactly what the stereo cost, or the wiring harnesses or the installation. He told me he was giving me a good deal - that he had taken $20 off the stereo and was making hardly anything on it. Little did he know I had already priced the same stereo at Crutchfield, and I was able to get the stereo and wiring harnesses for $250 - so was he going to be charging $200 for installation? Nope - he was overpricing everything, and then lying to me about how great of a deal it was. Well I guess it might have been a great deal - for HIM, had I been foolish enough to accept it. So I thanked him for his time, and purchased all the equipment through Crutchfield. I had planned on installing it myself, but the wiring harnesses got me a little confused. I thought it would be smart to pay a professional to do this. So I called them and asked if he could schedule me for an install. He told me I would have to come in and prepay, and then he could schedule me. Then I asked what sort of a time frame were we looking at for the install - meaning, can you get to me in a couple days, or is it going to be next week or a couple weeks? Then he seemed a little agitated and repeated, "Like I said, you need to prepay, and then I can tell you what the schedule is - the phone is ringing every 5 minutes and I am trying to keep everybody happy". The tone of his voice pissed me off. I again thanked him for his time, hung up the phone and muttered a "censored profane word".

First he wastes my time by having me come in in person to give me an estimate to install - and he never did look at my car. This could have easily been done over the phone. But no, I guess his goal was to get me into the store so maybe I would buy something. Then he can't itemize things so I can really tell what things cost. Then he can't even schedule me for an install over the phone? Why do I have to prepay? That alone was a little insulting. I have never been asked to prepay for anything like this - they always do the work first, THEN I pay. What, was he afraid I wasn't going to pay up? Well they have my car keys - and they can take out a mechanics lein against me if I refused to pay. But the final insult was when he treated me like an idiot and got all agitated with me simply because I asked what his schedule was like. He had to repeat himself as if I was a child and was too stupid to understand what he said the first time. All he had to say was, "Oh I can get to you in a couple days", and that would have been fine. No, he can't do that - he needs to get all pissy with me, and he spent more time explaining why he couldn't answer me instead of just answering me to begin with. So good job - now you lost my business. If this is the kind of customer service you provide, I don't want you touching my car. If you can't even treat me with respect and answer some simple questions BEFORE you get my money, why would you treat me any differently AFTER you get it?

So you lose - I took my business elsewhere. They did the install for me for $75. They took me the very next day (they could have even taken me the same day I called, had I been able to get my car to them) and even told me over the phone w/o even looking at my car what it would cost - and I didn't have to prepay. Imagine that.

Thumpin was going to charge me $450, and I got it done for $325. Not only are they terrible at customer relations, but they are overpriced too. I will never consider them ever again.

I took my brand new car into Thumpin' for an in-dash DVD installation and was so pleased with the service I received. The guys there are extremely knowledgeable and took great care of me and my car. The prices were reasonable, especially for the quality of work they do. When my car was returned to me, it was as if no one had ever touched it. I would never think about taking my vehicles anywhere else again. They are the best in all of the surrounding area!!!
