I have never seen the worst customer service in my life until i stopped in at FOREST HILL LANES!On a saturday night my son, his three friends, and myself stopped in at 10:00 to bowl.We were greeted by the most rudiest person ever (ROSS).We were told we couldn't bowl until 11:00 pm.He said there was a private party and no lanes were avaible.2/3 of the lanes were empty. We drove 45 min. to get there and we stood at the counter area for 5 min so we could decide what to do.Ross came over and told us we need to go outside because the private party was drinking.Meanwhile there was underage patrons in the area.I will never go back there in my life.IT'S amazing they stay in business. One day they will piss the wrong person off.Save your money and go to a place that will respect you.

My husband and I brought our 4yr old who was excited to play after having played at a cousin's birthday party in CA. We were pretty astonished that we were not allowed to use a ramp for him, especially since we were told they have them and use them for the disabled. He's 4, even with bumpers the ball was not making it down the lane many times. Why on earth would they not allow a young child to use a ramp if you have them and use them for the disabled? The place was empty! It makes no sense, and certainly made it feel like a very un kid-friendly place. I've never heard of a bowling place having such a rule about the ramps, and Ive been to bowling establishments in several cities and states.

Then, we tried to get a pitcher of beer, thinking we might stay for a bit. But we were told we had to leave the pitcher at the bar- which defeats the point of getting a pitcher! Again, what bowling place does that?! None I've ever been to, until now.

Two chances at decent and helpful customer service, both failed. Had it not been for the rudeness and lack of accommodation we would have stayed longer, spent more, and returned again and again. Instead we drank 1 drink each, played one game, left quickly, plan never to return, and plan to spread the word about our experience.

They didn't call me back when I tried to schedule a party and discuss "allergy" issues. My son has Celiac so can't have anything with gluten in it. The birthday packages required the purchase of pizza. There were other kids with food related issues too. They were rude and insensitive when I asked for alternatives and told me I couldn't bring food in except for a snack for him but that I couldn't order gluten free pizza from any where else for him which meant I would have to make my own which wasn't an option at that point.
They didn't care when he was reduced to tears when there was absolutely nothing in the food area he could eat. (I did eventually find some chips but the food staff just said he didn't know what gluten was and when I said wheat he said he had nothing without wheat and then ignored me).
The party packages are extremely overpriced anyway and they should have options without food for kids who can't eat the stuff...And how about a little compassion people.

I attened a party recently where a child was seriously hurt. There was blood everywhere! No one on staff came to clean up the blood. I cleaned it up myself so no other child would come in contact with it. They didn't offer me cleaner or anything. I didn't think about it until after we left that the bowling ball the child was using was never pulled from the lane so it had blood on it and was left for anyone else to play with. The changing table in the woman bathroom where the child was taken was not cleaned after bloody paper towels where laid on it. Maybe it was cleaned later but not while we were there. I took the childs shoes up to the counter and told the young girl working to use caution the shoes could have blood on them.... she looked at me like I was an idiot, huffed and than went back to texting on her cell phone. An EMT who happened to be at another party asked for a first aid kit and was told they didn't have one. No one seemed to care at all that there was a child injured and blood everywhere. Very bad experience!

I hope Forest Hill Lanes employees and owners take the time to read these reviews. I considered taking my family there this weekend .Needless to say I will find another place to bowl with them. Until these reviews are more in thier favor I wont be spending my money there.

I went to this establishments so called "rock and bowl" and it was one of the most frustrating experiences. Not only were the managing staff rude but the lanes were breaking constantly. A person in my party went up to ask if they were going to turn off the lights and the staff rudely replied that they were not because they had to "keep and eye" on every one. I would not recommend this place to anyone...it is one thing for your machines to have problems but its unacceptable for you staff to have attitude problems.

BAD experience!! We had our sons birthday there, and spent almost $300...and they wouldn't even carry the soda and pizza to the table. They handed me a stack of cheap paper plates (the white kind) and Styrofoam cups (the kind for coffee) and that was it for customer service. The lanes kept jamming and they took their time coming to fix them, we wasted more than 20 minutes waiting if not more (5 min here, 8 min there). No help cleaning up or setting up...and not at all what I expected. They advertise for kids parties...they should at least have kid friendly table wear available or at least colored plates and cups! I do not recommend this place to anyone!!!

First, they are high priced! I guess they are taking advantage of the upper class clients. Secondly, they are as rude as rude can get. I mean if you want repeat customers, shouldn't you have some kind of PR with the customers? I took my 12 yr old there, got our lanes and high priced shoes and began to bowl. Low and behold the lane jams. I tell them about it and they took their time getting to it. So we sat for 5 mins waiting. Then it happens again. The pins are jammed. Told them again, only this time with a pissy attitude and was agitated with us bothering them. All in all, we sat for long periods of time due to the jams and not wanting to tell them because they would lash out or give terrible looks. At one point i even tried giving some humor to break the ice. My god, that didnt go over well at all! So, with my experience there, I will never return again!!

Excellent facility and hard-working staff. They don't take any bs from anyone, so if you give them a hard time, you deserve what happens to you. This place is beautiful and very well-maintained. Nice lanes and good food, too. I attended a fund-raising event there and everyone had a terrific time. I've hosted 3 birthday parties there and every one was terrific and fun and a very good value. They really care about their customers.

Bowling at Forest Hill is way to expensive! Most folks can't afford to take a family there. With the price of gas jumping 15cents in 2 days, forget bowling at Forest Lanes.

We took our four children there plus our one niece and had a GREAT time! The prices are comparable to other lanes and the bottom line is, if you are looking for a deal all you need to do is check out their web site, they offer many deals especially during the summer.

I went to Forest Hill Lanes today with my three boys for open bowling, despite reading all the negative comments first-we decided to see for ourselves! So I called ahead to see if the lanes were open and available, and she was great-told me a big party had just left and plenty was available and to come right up. When we got there, the service was wonderful-the guy at the counter was very helpful and was joking around with us, and we had great people in the lanes next to us-and when we decided we needed bumpers, they came right over (actually, they joked that they had a bet going on how long it would take me to ask!)-and we really had fun, with no problems at all with the staff or the service-and when we were finished, we ate in the restaurant-the crab ball appetizer is very good, by the way! The pizza was only so-so, but kids could care less! So I just wanted to let everyone know that, as far as our trip went, the place was great-don't listen to others, just check it out for yourself!

the management is on 24/7 PMS... they think leaving the A/C off is a good idea... they don't give a damn if you stick or fall... there's no such thing as preventive maintenance.. the machines suck...
their ace in the hole is that there's no other centers within 20 miles... they don't give a ratsass about the customer having a good time... just don't bother them with requests or complaints... they have a hair trigger to throw people out... I could go on and on... it's a sorry excuse for recreational time...
ZERO STARS...NEGATIVE EVEN

Forest Hill Lanes is the worst bowling alley I have even been to. The prices are outrageous, $11 a game, what a rip off. The employees are extremely rude. I've never been so unhappy. I understand why they don't have the prices listed. They wouldn't have any business. I understand that Bel Air/Forest Hill people are "Rich" and snobby with nothing better to do than to waste $11 on one game of bowling. Not to mention the fact that shoe rental is another $4. I will never go back to that hell hole.

I moved here from New Orleans, and if you want to see a BAD alley, go there. Forest Hill Lanes are excellent in comparison. I've never encountered any rudeness at all, and I bowl there every week. All bowling alleys that are any good will have league play most of the time throughout the week. If you want to know when the free bowling is, call them. No big deal at all. If you can't heft a 6 pound bowling ball, do something else. I'm a 60 year old woman, and I bowl a 15 pound ball. Doc's Pro Shop is a dream compared with what I've had in the past, where the shop was only open during the day, during the week and you couldn't get anything done unless you took a day off of work! Doc is there when it's important to be there, and buying a new ball from him was a great experience. You just don't know what a jewel you have!!!

For the several, infrequent times I have been at FHL, I have been very happy with the experience. It's clean, the shoes in great condition, the staff friendly and very helpful. The snack bar is a bowling snack bar with finger foods and fountain sodas so I liked that too.

We shared a lane as well, they were helpful setting up the computer. I liked the comraderie.

The price fits in with the level of entertainment and simultaneous exercise.

If the other reviewers were miserable, I would bet they are miserable just about everywhere and I'm happy they won't be returning. More room for me. I hope they read this.

After grieving the loss of my son I delivered on Christmas day, We we trying for the sake of our 9 year old to get out of the house and try something to cheer us all up. The moment we walked in, we should of turned back around and went to Friendlys for some Ice Cream. I am only a 90 pd girl . I was bowling with a 6 pd ball they said I could only use that ball if I was a kid. I told them The rest was to heavy for me. They said oh well to bad, I used the ball anyway when they walked away, they came back told me I would have to leave the building if I did not use a 10pd ball, I then explained I just had a baby a week ago, I can not lift that much and 2 it is just 2 heavy, there was only one other family in the place who was I hurting they said the ball. My husband then started to yell at them to leave me alone, all this went on in front of my son, his mother was kicked out of the bowling alley because she could not lift a 10pd ball without hurt. What do they do to the little old ladys who wt. 90pds whould they kick them out too if a 10pd ball was to heavy for them?

We were a family of six bowling at FHLs. It was not a pleasant experience and the cost seemed high for a family (almost $70) for only two games each. The cost of renting shoes was about the same as one game of bowling too. We had challenges from the beginning with obtaining permissions to use the bumpers for the little children and again for permission to use two separate lanes. The alley was more than one third empty but we were asked to squeeze into one lane. There policy is to require up to five persons per lane if they are busy. We consented to getting kicked off two lanes (3 on each) and forced into one lane (all six) if the alley actually got completely full. The alley never filled up before we were done. Maybe we were having a bad luck experience but we did not feel treated very nicely by the staff.

I am new to this area, so I have been trying out everything in every location to get a taste of Harford County. Using these types of websites has really helped me get around, so I figure I??ll return the favor by writing what I thought about one of my favorite stops thus far in Forest Hill/Bel Air. One should always remember when looking through a site like this one that most satisfied customers will not go out of their way to write an online review of a local bowling alley. The only motivated writers behind these submissions will be those individuals with who have something to vent about. Given all of the ??wonderful? things being said about this place, and how much I disagreed with them all after visiting this business, I felt the need to comment.

FHL is great. The biggest complaints on this site are about Ross and Jim. I don't know the guys too well, but I do know from what I have seen that they are experts. Whenever a problem surfaces at the lanes, they know exactly what to do and have no problem seeing that it gets fixed. A lane went down during our party. We were moved over to another lane immediately, our party was NOT broken up, and within five minutes we were offered the opportunity to transfer our game back over to the former lane. I have heard much worse stories about bowling technology, and their solution was the best one imaginable. A bowling alley is not an ice cream shop that sings a song for you every time you leave them a tip, nor is it a grocery store where you might come back just for the charm and familiarity. It??s a facility for BOWLING. You pay the toll, and you bowl. If you want to pay a quarter for terrible lanes, slow service, smelly rental shoes, questionable location, questionable neighbors on the lanes, and the wow-factor of a senior citizens home, this alley might NOT be the place for you. Like anything else in life, and in Harford County as far as I??ve seen, a high-quality product comes with a pricetag. You cannot find better bowling for cheaper anywhere else in this county.

As for Ross and Jim: they know what they are doing, as does their staff. They are well qualified, and they are well-mannered. Like any professionals with expertise in a field, they do not deserve to be shouted at, whined to, or treated as subservient burger flippers. When a customer approaches them with the hopes of actually receiving a real response, and not just to throw a fit, they will answer them politely. It is not their job to deal with your bad day. Whoever said "the customer is always right" never had to deal with the people writing the reviews below.

Your friends and family make it the place where great memories are made. Forest Hill Lanes provides the perfect backdrop for those memories, at the best price imaginable and with the best conditions imaginable. I am not going to go on about all the wonderful features that it has to offer, because you can find out those things by reading the compliments below (when you find them), visiting their website, or just going to Forest Hill Lanes.

I had my daughter's birthday party there, with both kids and adults in attendance. I didn??t have to worry about the safety of any of the kids, and I didn't have to worry about the adults thinking that the place was a dump. Every kid went home smiling (no gift bags needed), and every parent went home with the same feeling and with a full stomach of great food. In the end, there is no doubt in my mind that FHL is a fantastic business that really raises the bar for the area.

Thanks, Jim

Forest hill lanes seems to be one of the best facilities around. Unfortunately you can never seem to bowl there. The center never seems to post actual buisness hours or hours for open bowling. The hours they do post never seem to be right. I have never gone somewhere that i was told numerous times would be open and turned away. I believe that forest hill lanes is a truly frustrating experience and that harford lanes in aberdeen was a much better experience. While i have been bashing forest hill lanes, i did find Doc's Pro Shop (inside of forest hill lanes) to be a very good experience and do recomend seeing Doc.

Shaniqua,
Your experience does not surprise me at all. I have been going to that place for years. The entire management is RUDE with a capital R. You think Ross is bad...you should see his fat dad, Jim. And Rose, the youth director there is about as dumb and mean as you will ever find. The funny thing is they think they actually own the place, rather than just hired help of the Klen family that owns it. The Kleins need to dump these jerks before they chase all the locals off too.

My first experience at this bowling alley will be my last. The management was overwhelmingly rude and the customer service was horrible.
A bunch of my sorority sisters and I decided to meet up in Maryland. Some of my girlfriends travelled from an hour away or further. After dinner we decided to bowl for a good time at Rock and Bowl. When we called ahead of time we found that we needed to reserve a lane. The "man" in charge named "Ross" told us that we could not pick which lane to reserve and that even though the place was empty all lanes were reserved. We knew our other group of girls already had a lane and we wanted to be beside them. We politely requested to have him swap the folks beside our friends to our lane. "Ross" told us he could not change up lanes, no way, no how and shortly said, "Do you want to bowl or what??" The lane that our girlfriends were on was a twin (two lanes close to each other) and it was perfect. We pleaded with him, but to no avail--he became more and more rude and angry stating that if he was to move people around in their lanes, he would have to do so for everyone. We didn't understand what the problem was because the bowling alley was empty. At this point we thought, we will just politely ask if we can swap lanes with the couple that has the lane next to our friends. (Take matters into our own hands and not involve him). The couple agreed to swap instantly. They had not begun their game and were more then happy to go to our lane on the other side of the building. When "Ross" heard of this swap he informed the couple that if they didn't swap back, we would all be kicked out of the bowling alley. Confused and now angry that our bowling night was ruined, we thought we might actually to swap back.We felt bullied and thought, "this cannot be so ridiculous, he must be in a bad mood or something, we will try one last time!" This final attempt was ugly. There was no discussing any other option with "Ross" At this point he was so impatient and angry with us and the kind couple willing to swap that all he did was threaten to throw us out.

Finally the young man of the couple stated that he did not want to cause any trouble and he and his girlfriend were going to leave and request their money back. ($16 a head) Frustrated also, we too requested our money back and also requested the managers name and number. This infuriated "Ross" who at this point mentioned that I should tell his "father" he said "hello" and THEN in almost a surreal moment HIS WIFE leaned in and accused one of our girlfriends of hitting on him stating, "real cool hitting on a married man!" this made us laugh because this man was such a jerk, we couldn't believe she was taking up for his behavoir and proud to be married to him let alone thinking that we would hit on him!!!! The Bowling alley had 7 people walk out. Our other group of girls had been 3/4 through their game and left shortly thereafter also.

PROS: nothing--a standard bowling alley
CONS: The "man" in charge "Ross",his wife, high price, no beer, customer service

Forrest Hills Lanes is a great place for clean wholesome fun for kids and adults alike. They offer a Rock and Bowl program on weekend nights and it is always packed. You can drink some beer and get some exercise all at once. It is a fun activity and great date idea. We?ve taken our grandkids for the evening?all ages are welcome.

forest hill lanes is pretty typical for a bowling ally. they boast "computerized/automated scoring" which is pretty cool. They also have a restaurant and a snack bar that has things like hot pretzels, nachos, and pizza. The whole place is air conditioned which is necessary because these sorts of joints can get pretty musty. The lanes can be reserved for birthday parties and for those that aren't into bowling, video games provide an alternative!
