This is a run down facility that is remarkably crowded despite its poor condition. I visited on a sunny weekend on July 24, 2011 and the lake was very crowded with people. There were very limited bathroom facilities that were in deplorable structural condition and very dirty. Considering the large number of swimmers, I suspect that many people must have been urinating in the water. Given the small size of the lake and that there is no apparent inflow of fresh water or outflow of contaminated water, suggests why the water looks like pea soup. Cascade lake is in a very picturesque setting. However, the picnic area is dusty and dirty. The BBQ grills are in horrible condition. Picnic tables are located along a path near the swimming area, so there is a non-stop flow of people walking along the path in single file immediately next to your own picnic table. No opportunity for any privacy. The picnic tables and board walks are old, decaying and full of splinters. I am describing the general admission facilities. By contrast, the reserved facilities, like the pavilions and pool are well maintained. I personally would not return to Cascade Lake.
In contrast to other reviews, I saw no signs of alcohol or illegal drug consumption. The people at the lake were mainly family with children of all ages. There were many life guards on duty who appeared to be closely monitoring the crowd. The visitors and staff were pleasant and courteous. However, these positive attributes in my opinion, did not overcome the many negatives about this recreational facility.

The first time I went to Cascade Lake like most of the reviewers it was a bad experience and the "lake" was dirty. It wasn't a good experience. However, I just recently went with my church for Worship in the Park and had a entire different experience. It was booked as a private party so we were actually at the pool not the lake. It was very clean here and the atmosphere was completely different. This was a much more pleasurable trip.

So happy that we didn't pay attention to the last 2 reviews. We just got back from Cascade Lake and had a GREAT time. Maybe going on a holiday like 4th of July would be a different experience but we found it to be a great way to spend a hot summer day. We felt that safety was definately a priority. The lifeguards were everywhere and very attentive. The facilities were clean and even the food at the cafe wasn't bad. We can't wait for our next visit to Cascade Lake!

Made a big mistake, but don't you make the same one! Took friends and elderly relatives there 7/04/10 for fun in the countryside. It was a shock and we felt uncomfortable because we weren't prepared for the scenes and vulgar language - something out of the inner city or "R" rated movie! We decided to depart and do something else. Too bad a trip to the country packed this surprise. Upon leaving, "Patrick" (I guess he's the owner on a golf cart) told me without hesitation - ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS! Apparently, he is practiced and adept at repeating this to many people. I calmly and rationally related that the website portrayed a totally different place, we felt uncomfortable and desired a refund. A peaceful and respectful resolution for both parties. With that, "Patrick" who is anything but the kind grand-fatherly type, told me I was a RACIST. No discussion of race was made by me. I perceive "Patrick" made this assumption on his own. So the long and short of it was an large amount of cash was paid for me to be insulted. If this is your American Dream on the 4th of July, then you can have it - it sure isn't mine! I guess after paying taxes all my life, never being convicted of a crime, loving God and the USA and being employed all my life serving others regardless of race, creed or color - maybe Patrick is a better person than I am. How easy it is to call someone a name and jump to conclusions. I guess his money from his NO REFUND policy goes to cleaning up the oil crisis, the Red Cross/Salvation Army during Hurricane Katrina, 9/11/01 NYC terrorist attack - like I've contributed to. But I'll bet his joy in life is ripping people off of their hard-earned money on the 4th of July. I receive this type of treatment from a bad-tempered, nasty man who doesn't even understand the first thing about customer service and what it takes to be a good citizen. This place is one of the worst experiences I've ever had and you'd do yourself, family and friends a huge favor to repeat this story to anyone! ROTTEN RIPOFF!

Pros: The drive out there, anticipation of fun, family picnic idea

Cons: Whatever happened to respect of individual freedoms?

I've never experienced anything as totally disgusting as this "lake" on 4 July 2010. I was there 5 minutes with my kids... it was unbelievable. Marijuana permeated the atmosphere, as drunk and obnoxious individuals stumbled into my kids, using language that was surreal and so foul that they actually cried. I had to leave there before I got into a fight... uncivilzed, and the fact that the ownership would condone such behaviour... unbelievable. When I asked for refund of my $72 spent for five minutes of terror, the owner laughed at me... literally... and said I must not have read the "no refund" policy. His eyes were clearly bloodshot from drinking. And it so scary... and I spent three tours in Iraq. Makes me wonder who I should fighting against... those folks over there, or this filthy and disgusting culture alowed to permeate our US countryside. My kids begged me to leave, and I did. The worst experience in my adult life... and on a day when we should be celebrating our freedom... I don't feel very free. I went home and showered. I wouldn't recommend this to my worst possible enemy.

Pros: None

Cons: Drug Induced Inner-City Culture in the Country!!!

We went to Cascade Lake a couple of weekends ago. I did my research online before going. NOWHERE did i see anything about a pool! For the people whining about the pool they could not use, that is your fault. All of the employees were friendly and all around it was a nice place. I personally wont go back because I dont like bugs and would prefer the pool or beach. If your looking for a pool this is not the place to go. The Sprayground was a nice feature!

I would have to agree with both of the prior reviews on this page! After living in Manchester Md. for 7 years I decided to take my 12 yr old today for something different to do besides the community pool.I went on the Internet and goggled Cascade Lake. What a mistake filthy beach, shaded with mud, not sand filthy water,he wanted to fish no luck from all the activity in the lake. So we ended with going to the pool which a sign read do not enter private party with 3 yellow buses leaving with a large amount of people. I basically paid $12.00 to turn around and leave with disgust. As I was pulling out by the gate A computer piece of paper on the gatehouse read Pool not for the Public use Private only! Back to my community pool where it is clean and much more fun ! This was a Monday afternoon at 2pm can you imagine the Weekend!!!

I would not recommend this place to anyone!! No pool for public use which is misleading in ads and internet. Owner was a horrible person to customers as well as employees. Overcrowded with buses and buses of people. Very expensive and if your not happy, tough no refund!

This was a waste of time and money. Let me just say that my experience here was the first and last. It's overcrowded, no room to sit, no umbrellas, filthy water, and the so-called water slides are a joke. I thought there might be a pool here but was misinformed. Oh and if you want to use the picnic tables to eat, you have to purchase food there.
