My husband and I live in Hampden and have been to Grill Art several times, usually for breakfast/brunch, but occasionally for lunch and we've always found it to be an enjoyable experience with great food and a very sweet and attentive wait staff. The coffee is FABULOUS and is always fresh (not sitting around burning for hours) and I absolutely love several of their menu items, such as the huevos rancheros, which I actually think is alot better than the one served at Golden West. Every pizza I've had has been wonderful - my husband loves the one with goats cheese - and we've never had a problem with slow service or inattentive waiters. All in all a great restaurant and one that I highly recommend. Oh, and they have brown sugar lemonade! Doesn't get any better than that.

Pros: great food, friendly waitstaff

Cons: doesn't serve alcohol

Last night we bought gift certificates for Grill Art from Restaurantdotcom anticipating an enjoyable evening with our friends. The service was horrendously slow (almost 60 minutes before we were served our dinner). The food wasn't even that good, my bread was stale, and the shrimp thai sauce was from a heated bottle of $1.99 sweet chili sauce that you can buy from the korean supermarket (stay away and go back to golden west cafe!!) When we paid the bill, we used our certificate. There were 6 of us and all of us signed our bills and put a 20% tip on it (forgetting we had used the certificate). The waitress named Elisa (which I think is the same one everyone else has had on all the reviews) came back to us and asked "was there anything wrong with my service?" We were all a little surprised and caught off-guard. We all replied "of course not" and that was when we realized we had made a mistake and tried to correct it. Instead, the waitress replies with a curt "NO NO I TAKE PRIDE IN MY JOB. I JUST WANTED TO KNOW. THIS IS HOW I MAKE MY LIVING." Not only did it make us uncomfortable, it also made the table behind us get up immediately and leave. We left a couple extra dollars out of embarassment, but really we should not have after how we were treated. After we got up from our table (and the waitress noticing we had left extra money), told us in a contrived manner "have a good evening! go ravens!" We were incredibly irate when we left the place. The old owner guy didn't even say sorry or address the problem. never ever again. stay far, far away from this place.

Cons: service was horrific, food was below subpar

I want to like Grill Art, I really do... they are located on the Avenue in Hampden, which is my 'hood. My first visit to Grill Art was several years ago; I went with a friend and her 2 year old daughter. We ordered something simple - sandwiches, I believe.... we were also the only customers in the restaurant. After about 40 minutes of waiting for our food, (without any explanation from the server), we were understandably confused, hungry, and by that point trying to wrangle a very annoyed two year old. We asked for our food to go, and when we got it, the sandwich bread was burnt from toasting, and no discount or compensation was offered or given for our wait and frustration. I believe the woman working the counter got upset that I complained, noting that "she couldn't help it that the chef had gotten to work late that day." I vowed never to return. Recently, I gave it another shot... this time, the food was at least good. However, the service remained at the same galacial pace. Again, my friend and I were one of the only tables in the restaurant, and ordered simple sandwiches, and waited about 30-40 minutes for our orders. I don't know why! We had resolved not to be in a hurry, and enjoyed the time talking, but I can't say that I will give the place a third try.

I went to Grill Art for the first time recently, to grab a bite to eat before running some errands. It was around 2pm on a Sunday, and the placed was packed. I had the breakfast burrito (eggs, black beans, guacamole, and jack cheese in a grilled flour tortilla, with sour cream on the side), the fruit bowl, and a latte. For the most part, it was quite good - especially the fruit, which was very fresh and sweet. The potatoes that came with my burrito were rather uninspiring, though. And the service was *very* slow - they had one poor waitress running frantically about to take care of the whole place. Perhaps they were just understaffed that day.

The atmosphere is cozy and, as the name suggests, a little on the arty side, with framed photographs decorating the exposed brick walls, and a vintage molded ceiling. All in all, it was an ideal brunch experience, save for the slow service.

Pros: Great food, reasonable prices, comfortable atmosphere

Cons: Very slow service - at least the one time I was there

We went to Grill Art for the first time on Saturday night. I felt compelled to make this my first message because our experience was very different from the previous two reviews.

Not only was the food incredible-- as was the coffee-- but our service was outstanding.

The only glitch in the whole evening was that they had run out of herb vinegarette. The creamy italian was our second choice. Delicious although I wish they had served a bit more of it.

We always explore new restaurants by ordering appetizers instead of dinners. Upon leaving, we decided that they deserved us coming back to try their entrees.

I live in Hampden, so I really love it when a new bar or restaurant opens in my neighborhood. I really wanted Grill Art to succeed, so I gave it 3 chances. Each time the service was deplorable. Twice I did not get what I ordered, or it was different than it said on the menu. One time they served me honey with my french toast and tried to pass it off as maple syrup. The waitress checked and sure enough, they had run out of maple syrup and so switched to honey. What?!? Each time we waited an extremely long time to have our orders taken, water offered, check delivered, etc. This is not how to run a restaurant, and a sure-fire way to lose customers.

Food was served after waiting 45 minutes. There were three tables in the restaurant. Food was cold and order was wrong. Thought maybe it was a fluke so went back a month later and SAME THING! Never again.
