I think this place is wonderful...not a ripoff at all, and they really care about your pet. Please see my more detailed review on yahoo.com. For all those people who complain about the bills, well guess what, your pet doesn't have health insurance, so of course all of the out-of-pocket charges hurt. Stop complaining and go get pet health insurance.

I have been taking my dog to WCAH for several years, and can attest to both themes being repeated. They provide good care, and are expensive, especially with the incredible number of prescriptions, for which they charge quite a bit per prescription. Most of the drugs they prescribe could be found over the counter at Wallgreens, but they won't tell you that, and instead charge you $30.00 to $50.00 per prescription that you could get for one tenth that. Dog have a bruise? couple of hundred Dog have an upset stomach? more than four hundred Great place if you have Paris Hilton money to spend. If not. not!

My Mother's poodle (age 8 at the time) was diagnosed with a possible enlarged heart and we found that when we took her in for a cough (to see Andersen). Several meds over the next couple of years were administered that did not make the cough better. Then, she was diagnosed with a definite enlarged heart and the cough still persisted. She was prescribed temaril P (steroid) for a couple of years. Her breathing got worse and the cough still persisted. It was then that the vet said "no more temaril P". When I called to find out why all of a sudden he was discontinuing the meds, I was told by Katy (who put me on hold to get an answer I suppose) that dogs with heart problems shouldn't take temaril P. Then I said "why was she given this med to begin with if she already had a heart issue?" Of course, that got glazed over with a "I'm not sure". I never went back to see Andersen.

I have retired recued racing greyhounds (3) and Dr Andersen AND Dr Shedan have saved them many many many times.....Lab tests from their lab matched identically to Ohio State and NC for blood work and osteosarcoma. They take suggestions and confer with other well known authorities in the greyhound world and I would never take my boyz anywhere but Waugh Chapel Animal Hospital. They are upfront, understanding, compasionate, call after procedures to follow up on them, care about the 'whole family' . Can't say enough good thiings................I just love them to pieces!

I got a rescue cat and took him to Dr. Anderson to re-check for FIV, because I didn't want to trust the rescue place who said he was negative. They did 1 test and said it was inconclusive but looked positive and wanted to draw again to be certain (sure $$$$$). I had them do it and it came back positive for FIV. I was so upset because I had already exposed my other cat now too. In my appointment with Dr. Anderson he advised me, NOW HOLD ONTO YOUR HAT, that he was one of the only vets in the world that could CURE FELINE FIV!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously!!! Right then I knew he was a wacko! I went on the internet and found out the blood test for FIV can give false positives and there is a more definitive test called an EZRA test. I took my cat to another test had that EZRA test done and he is definately NEGATIVE for FIV!!!!! How many other cats have been to Dr. Anderson's office and been destroyed by their owners because they got positive FIV tests!! He should have told me about the EZRA test immediately and not try to sell me that he was a miracle man who can cure FIV !! Wacko! Do NOT trust this man!

I take my two dogs and my two cats to Waugh Chapel and so far I have found them to be the best in the area. While they are a little more pricey than most vets, they do a great job. They saved my Maltese who had parvo when she was only 3 months old and almost died. They also are the best at taking care of my 8 year old Yorkie when he has a pancreas attack. Recently both of my cats had upper respiratory infections and Dr. Anderson knew exactly how to cure them and saved me money by not performing unnecessary tests. Anyone who I have known and who uses Waugh Chapel as their vet has loved it and recommends it to everyone. My friend's German Sheppard had both hips replaced at this vet. Once again, they are more expensive than other vets, but they do save you money on not performing unnecessary tests and in the long run are worth the money.

I took my kitten to Waugh Chapel for her spay surgery because the rescue group that I adopted her from had an agreement with this hospital. When I called to see if she was ready to be picked up, they had no record of her even being at the hospital. They had to search for her paperwork, even though I had only dropped her off that morning. Over the next few days, my cat seemed lethargic and wasn't eating much. I took the cat to my regular vet and found out she had a fever, so he prescribed some antibiotics in case she had an infection. She began feeling better but every since she went to Waugh Chapel (which was a few years ago) she has become an extremely skittish cat. I don't know if this is part of her personality that didn't show up before her spay surgery (she was very friendly and social as a kitten) but I was not very happy with how things were handled at this animal hospital.

After taking my two cats and Bull Dog to this Clinic for 4 years I feel that I could NEVER find another Dr. like Dr. Andersen. He has proven himself time and time again to be genuine and caring while in a profession that has seemingly fallen on greed. Dr. Andersen has always provided the best care for my pets and has helped me out financially when he knew money was tight. I can not recount the number of times I have received misc. discounts or free services from him. (He even gave me an x-ray free of charge on my first visit to him due to my previous vet's lack of care in taking the shots). He has always been concerned with the care of the animals and he demonstrates this with each client he sees. Vet care is expensive because we are not only paying for the supplies being used on our animals, but we are also paying for the experience of the Dr. I am so greatful for the bad experience I had at my previous vet becasue it led me to Waugh Chapel Animal Hospital.

I'm Christine's boyfriend and I'd like add to her "in it for the money" review. They charged us for about 10 different meds, and an x-ray, plus more un-needed treatment. As an avid dog lover who's family has ran rescues for some time now, I know overkill when I see it. The dog had a cut on the tip of her tail from the car door that, because of the location of the wound and extreme tail wagging, would not clot. Other than the initial shock of the door closing, the dog was in NO pain. I bandaged the wound properly and we took her to the vet the next day only to be charged $430 for him to shave the wound and re-bandage it. The only thing they did to her that I didn't already do, was pump her FULL of drugs. Her head is still in the clouds 24hrs later. I honestly feel like she was better off with my bandage on her without any of the meds. I have NO problems with spending money on a family member (b.c. that is how we treat her) but this was a white color con.

My dogs tail accidently met with the car door as it was closing. So we made an appointment at WCAH where we have taken her before. I waited in the waiting room for about a half an hour while her tail was bleeding, then they took her in the back without me, and half an hour later came back and said they needed to sedate her because she had a large laceration and it needed to be stitched. So I asked if it was really necessary to sedate her and they said yes cause it could be be painful, but it's a simple procedure and it happens all the time. A few hours later they called me and said my dog was ready to be picked up and they layed out a $430 bill. So much for a simple procedure....then to find out that she didn't need stitches at all, and all they did was clean the wound and bandaged up her tail. They would not adjust the bill after arguing with them that the charge to sedate her for cleaning the wound was completely unacceptable. They would do nothing to adjust the bill, it stayed as is. It's obvious they are in it just for the money.

Dr. Anderson has been my vet for the last 16 years. I even used him for my horse prior to him moving to small animals only. He has never misguided me. He has saved me money by not doing unnecessary tests and he has been amazingly spot on everytime. I swear I think he speaks dog. I can't say enough wonderful things about him and I would not take my animals to any other vet. I even drive out of my way to go to his office.

I was very disappointed in the care of my animal as I later learned that my dog was completely misdiagnosed. The wrong tests were run and after seeing another vet, I learned that my dog did not have the disease that Waugh Chapel was sure that he had and was given unnecessary medication (that may have done harm). I will never go there again and would recommend going elsewhere. Fortunately, there are a couple of very good vets in the area.

I moved to Odenton, MD with my 2 German Shepherds a few years ago. My youngest GS had chronic ear issues and we had taken him to some of the BEST vets...Even to the University of Kentucky to get his allergies and soupy ear issues fiexed and nothing seemed to work! The UK doctors had placed my GS's on a particular kind of food to try and help with the issues...Never really saw any results at all. I went to Waugh Chapel looking for the food to see if they sold it. I got into the office and asked the Dr. to ask him what we should do. The Dr. came out and asked a few questions...I told him EVERYTHING about my youngest and he told me to go to the holistic dog food store down the street that his issues were due to all of the preservatives in his foods. OMG...He was right! My youngest no longer had hives on his belly!!! It was amazing!!! Both of my GS's coats looked great and their energy level was awesome. Then my youngest had a flare up with his ears again...Called Waugh Chapel and they got me in right away. Dr. Anderson came in loved on him looked in his ears said he would be right back with exactly what he needed...He was right AGAIN!!! It was GREAT!!! My youngest passed away a year and a half ago due to a genetic spinal issue that is common in GS's. His back end just went limp one afternoon...Needless to say Dr. Anderson was terrific yet again! I will forever be thankful for all his office did for my 2 boys!!! They are the loves of my life and I would trust Dr. Anderson with anything!!!!

I would never take another pet to this place! While the main vet is personable and knowledgeable, his partner most certainly is not! We called WCAH after our 1 year old female dog became ill following spay surgery and her shots and the partner dismissed us, telling us we were over-reacting, did not think it was warranted to see the dog. His attitude was rude, cavalier and very uncaring. That same night our dog was in the ER vet with steadily worsening symptoms and later that week was in the care of another local vet (who quickly ruled out the partner vet's phone diagnosis and our alleged over-reaction by the way). Unfortunately, despite some of the best care available in the state, our dog had to be euthanized for complications related to a rare but known medical issue about a month after the main vet's associate belittled us for "over-reacting".

Our 10 year old schnauzer needed a teeth cleaning and they convinced our daughter to have him neutered at the same time. Then they did both operations, collected the fee, and sent our pet home in a state of shock less than 24 hours later. He did not survive the night. But they got paid and that is what really matters there.

I have recently had my first exposure to the main doctor at WCAH. He was honest, knowledgable and obviously dedicated to "fixing" my dog. When hip surgery was discussed, my main concern was the cost. Surprisingly, the doctor offered to do a payment plan that would work for me as well as them. I have since been back many times for recheck visits and now also regular visits as well. I am extremly happy with the doctor and his staff who are obviously very dedicated to the work they do as well as to the animals they see. Exam, vaccines and perscription prices are reasonable and they do price matching for ALL medications. All they ask is that you bring a print up of what you found on line and that it be the same dosage and quantity as what you are having refilled. To me, that helps a lot!

I have been going to one of the doctors for over 10 years. Over the past 2 years, prices have skyrocketed and customer service declinded The customer service and care has been lost and replaced by quanity versus quality of the care, treatment and services. Seems as though, the staff is always changing and is young and inexperienced. This hospital has gone down in service, in staffing and care and service for the animal. I will not go back and cannot wait for the new place to open across the street. They need to rethink how they do business. Perhaps a little competition will bring this clinic back to what the client wants, TLC.

PROS:
CONS: staff lacks professionalism, you get nickled and dimed

Boy - even though 3 years have passed by I still can't believe what a rip-off this place is. I'm so sorry they are still around. And their website now has a "feedback" section. Hah! What a joke!

This place is a rip-off. They charged me $500 to tell me my large breed 18 month old had "growing pains". Something I was able to research on the internet (unfortunately I did this afterwards, but hell, isn't that the point of a Vet??? Yeah, maybe one you can trust!) And then to top it off after I wrote a letter to the Vet to ask that my charges be reviewed -- he never even responded! Well, look out WCAH, when that new place opens up down the road (Summer 06?) maybe you will re-evaluate your current practice and be responsive to your clients.

The vets here are super friendly and obviously love thier job and patients. The vets are helpful in determining any problems your pet may have and help the owner in establishing healty habits. I like the fact that you will not spend an arm and a leg on a visit, and the fees do not seem padded with extras. Evening and weekend appointments are available.

We've been taking our dog here for two years now. When took our adopted "mutt"in for his first check-up, the vet new his breed instantly (a briard). The doctors and techs are friendly and knowlegeable, and appointments are only between $20 and $30 a visit. They have evening and weekend hours and regular customers can order pet meds online through their website. You can also make appointments online.
