We truly under new management - please check us out! We do not believe in keeping puppies in cages. Even though the labor cost is huge, I will never keep puppies in cages or behind glass where no one can pet them. Puppies need to be held and loved - and with our customers always petting them, they get what they need. Our reptile section is immaculate and we have the biggest variety of reptiles and supplies you will find in the area. We care about our customers!

Hama I.

I recently got a new puppy from Pets Galore. He is a PomAPoo and was born 8/12 and his name is Marley. I am a dog lover and i am a serious dog owner meaning i like my dogs well behaved and well trained. I have a 10 year old Pug and our new Pomapoo is just a wonderful addition to our pack. Marley is a healthy animal with natural instincts which leads me to believe he was with his mother after birth and got to understand natural behavior. Since day one he has not soiled his bed (most puppy mill puppies soil their bed because they lost the natural instinct to not lay in their own urine and feces) Marley seems to have that sense and only goes potty once outside the crate and once he is walked. His intelligence is superb (a sign of good breeding) after only a week and a half he knows to "come" to "Sit" to "lay down" and to shake your hands "paw". He is a good boy and follows leadership and has become friends with our much older Pug who is acting like a grand ma than a friend :). The store did seem to care about all the animals and the owners information was made available to me with a 10 day health guarantee. His 10 days are over now and i will be taking him to my Vet to get him on track and make sure he receives the rest of his vaccinations. For all those that are talking bad about Pets Galore - it seems like it was a particular instance and or the person writing the review had a personal vendetta. I've already recommended Pets Galore to many friends and many people that see how much of a great dog Marley is and will continue to promote Pets Galore. As many of the large stores seem to only care about a false appearance Pets Galore gives you the true experience of being around animals and pets! Thanks Pets Galore :) - Happy Customer from VA

Ratings_icons Pets Galore needs a second chance

T M.

I think people need to give pets galore any chance. Pets Galore has been purchased by a new owner and I do see lots of improvements there . I too have seen the how it used to be with the dirty pens for the animals but I have seen much improvements with the clean pens and the maintains the pens very well . Everytime I have been in there I have seenthe staff canging the animals water and cleanning the animals living area. The staff is very helpfull and friendly .I think the only problem would have been is the new owner should had changed the name of the business so she would had not taken such a bad rap from how the past owner did. by t.m

Ratings_icons Pets Galore is run by adolescents that have no idea how to care for animals

Sarah M.

My husband and I went to Pets Galore at opening to look for a puppy to bring home to our 2 year old maltese. When we arrived, we were "greeted" by 3-4 teenagers who had no sense of customer service whatsoever. After walking around in the store for 10-15 minutes, we noticed almost none of the dogs seemed to be energetic. In one of the "pens" as they call them, a puppy tried to get up to walk over towards me, and fell into a bowl of food and refused to get up. None of the pens had sufficient water and if there was water, it was dirty or almost empty. A girl walked over to us and asked if we needed help, when I responded no, but that she should look at the "sick puppy" she responded that he was just tired because she had been cleaning the pen. She got into the pen, picked up the puppy and shook it a little. Oh hes fine she replied. We then left. What a nightmare. Perhaps the owner/manager of this place should look for some individuals that are a bit older and more mature to supervise the younger employees... and take better care of the animals they attempt to sell for 500+.

Ratings_icons I love being able to pet the puppies

R B.

My daughter and I went to Pets Galore to look at the dachshund puppies in March 2009. All the puppies were happy , playing, and jumping on each other. I was a little hesitant at first after reading the reviews, but I decided to go over there anyway and I am glad I did. After going back two more times we decided to get a brown and white dachshund. We took him to the vet and he is in the perfect bill of health. As always a person should do some research before getting an animal. We really like our puppy and our house would be empty without him. Thank you Pets Galore. We would go back to get another animal from there.

Ratings_icons I love my pug

Michelle S.

I am currently the owner of a very energetic black male pug named Roscoe. We purchased him from Pets Galore 1 1/2 years ago. The employees at the store were very helpful and very honest with me. When we went to see Roscoe the for the first time, he was feeling a little under the weather. The employee helping us informed us that he was getting over a cold. Not a big deal, puppies have not the best immune systems considering they are so young. He was being treated accordingly. He also had a scar on his right eye that had occurred shortly after birth. Eye injuries are very common in pugs.We chose Roscoe out of the litter of 3. They asked that we wait a few days until he felt up to par. We picked up Roscoe from the store good as new that weekend. He has no problems following his trip home. Even our own personal vet guaranteed us that he was in perfect health, minus the scar to his eye. The vet did tell us that seemed to see just fine through that eye as well, which was great news for us. My sister Jenny also has a dog that she purchased from Pets Galore. His name is Monte and he is a Shi-tzu. She also had a very positive experience when purchasing her puppy. Monte had not health problems, and has had none to date. He is a very personable 3 year old Shi-tzu.On another note. I would just like to tell everyone that I would be more than willing to purchase another pet from Pets Galore. The shop is not the prettiest with fancy cages and displays, but this is how that keep the cost of the puppies down. It allows people who may not have $1500 for a puppy, like the cost of the franchise puppy stores, to afford one. all of the puppies I have ever seen in the store are well fed and happy and as clean as you can expect a playful 10 week old puppy to be.Thank you Pets Galore for such a wonderful addition to our family.

Ratings_icons Pets Galore is terrible

brittany l.

I have a bearded dragon and I went to Pets Galore every other day to buy crickets and hornworms. They weren't bad at first even though I've heard lots of stories. About 2 weeks ago I went to buy hornworms and the manager sold me 30 dollars worth of DEAD hornworms!!!!! I didn't know until I got home and when I called they acted like they didn't even care.....even though they are not hurting me they are hurting my animals. Pets Galore is the absolute worst place to go.

Ratings_icons Pets Galore is a place that just found a way for animal Cruelty to be legal

Actually, I can believe the story below from Kristina. The same thing happened to me. Nursing my puppy back to health cost over a $1000 in vet bills. She had a cough with fluid in her lungs. I will say that since it happened the day after I brought her home, the store did her take her for treatment and was going to pay the costs. But, this is where my nightmare began. After dropping her off for treatment, they kept for 10 days. Every time I called to check on her, all I got was shes fine. I asked to speak to the Manager or the Owner every day, several times a day, and yet they were never there. I asked for proof that she was being treated, vet name, phone numbers, papers, ANYTHING!!!! And did I ever get proof NO. Could they provide proof to the BBB when I reported them NO. On the 10th day I went to got her because I was sick of the run around game they were playing. They would not give her back to me until I walked out the store and called the police. Once they showed up, I got the puppy back. Who by the way, was like a limp noodle with no expressions of joy to bear. She was so sick. I took her immediately to a 24 hour vet emergency clinic. They told me they would do all they could be she would probably not make it because of the amount of fluid and blood in her lungs and all the infections that had spread. Two weeks in the hospital and 100 pills later she has survived. She does have scaring on her lungs and breathing problems now from all the damage it caused. All of this because they never treated her. I thank god every day that she is alive, but I have made it my personal goal to make sure that they get shut down.

Ratings_icons SICK DISGUSTING FILTHY HELLHOLE YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!!!

Kristina G.

I recently visited Pets Galore with my husband on June 7, 2009. When I came in I had no intention of getting a puppy but we ended walking out with one or rather SAVING one I should say. The place place smelled disgusting and the first part that I thought was interesting, they claim "they never put there pets behind glass" and that is one of the first things I saw 2 little Yorke's in what appeared to be in a bunny tank! Now begins my story. As I was looking at all the puppies they were all sickly looking it broke me heart, its as if each and ever single one of them wanted to be taken home and if I had a farm I would have taken them all. After browsing we found an adorable little of Rottweiler puppies. We ended up selecting a sweet little male from the bunch whom we now call "Brody" and he is an absolute joy for my family. Here's where the bad part begins. Upon bringing him home we noticed he had a little cough, which we chalked up to being nerves and we would have checked out at his well puppy appointment. Well not even 2 days later the coughing had gotten worse and his breathing was so shallow,k at 4:30am on Monday morning my puppy staring coughing up BLOOD, yes I said blood. I immediately tried to contact the store owner which took about 2 hours to reach so you can already see her sleep in time is more important than the animals she so called "cares" for. When she finally called us back she almost convinced my husband to let them keep the dog for 10 and THEIR vet work on the dog. To me that was very suspicious and I did not trust it. Needless to say I said No I am not leaving my dog, the owner then told us to meet us at her store at 8:30am that day and needless to say she NEVER showed her fat ignorant manager was there instead. They tried to have us sign a BOGUS contract and we wouldn't. The manager got the owner on the phone and she said "Okay well we will take him to the vet and bring him back this afternoon" Now keep in mind my precious dog is losing it by the second. My husband said "we will go with you" The owner told us No and when we asked her why she said "the vet doesn't like customers" Now you tell me who the IN THE WORLD says that!? I ran out of that place and immediately rushed him to my own vet. My vet whom I love so greatly rushed him back to triage and the results brought me to my knees. My little 11 week old puppy had full blown pneumonia the worst the vet had ever seen. My vet told me if we had brought him in any later he would have died. I was hysterical to say the least. So now my 11 week old puppy is in the ICU area of the vets and will remain there for 5 days hooked up to IVS and Med pumps. We tell him everyday when we visit just how much we love him and I thank GOD EVERYDAY for letting us rescue him from this scum hole. Our vet bill is outrageous and lucky for us we have the money, but could you imagine if we were less fortunate our dog would have died? DON'T TRUST THESE PEOPLE. Oh and on top of that no one from Pets Galore not even the piece of scum owner even called to see if he was okay. I have EVER single animal activist rights group on these people right now and I won't stop until they are shut down! Please Please do not buy from this PUPPY MILL!! I beg of you, find a reputable breeder and speak with them. I am concerned about all of these animals that lay in there own urine and feces at this place. And now I have to make sure my other pets do not get pneumonia from the baby because it is contagious. I hope you people go to hell for what you have done and thank GOD my Brody is not with you horrible nasty people anymore.P.S. I would rate this place with NO STARS if I could because they are disgusting and below unsatisfactory!!!

Incredibly One-Sided replied on 06/14/09
Let's start by stating facts-not personal attacks like calling people fat Anyone can be fine one day but sick the next-same with puppies. It is not something I can control but what I can control is that my customers do not spend a dime on medical issues-which is why I have a guarantee, put my home number on the contract, and have my manager come to the store whenever needed to make sure puppies get medical attention when needed. If someone refuses free medical treatment then wants to rant and rave - there is not much I can do. Animal Control performed an investigation and found that we were not negligent.I got up at 7:00am-returned the call immediately. The store didn't open until 10am-I called my manager who threw on her clothes and met them at the pet store at 8:30am. When they arrived, Kristina was screaming at us and using the "F" word. Michelle went to get paper work and they walked out the door. We do not disclose the name of our vet for exactly this reason. People can be vulgar, rude, and create scenes that vets don't want to deal with.
Ratings_icons Everyone should do research before buying a puppy

While I have not had much experience with Pets Galore, I have been in the store in the past. I am a local breeder of golden retrievers and am very concerned about the comments concerning Pets Galore. Everyone who is looking for a puppy should perform due diligence before purchasing, no matter where they are purchasing. Local breed specific organizations can recommend reputable breeders, who breed to enhance the breed; not merely to make money.

Please do not judge a operation by a few people's comments. Remember - only unhappy people and my competition pretending to be customers write on these pages. We have hundreds of happy customers - which of course never take the time to write. I know breeders are not generally in favor of pet stores and understand your position - but hope you do not prejudge us. I would be happy to speak with you personally if that would make you feel better about the treatment of our puppies.
Ratings_icons Terrible!

Sylvia P.

I would NOT recommend this store to ANYONE! I've been there many many times, and its always the same. The poor puppies in the side room, just lay on the floor lifeless and depressed. as far as the whole 'we don't believe cages', not true. I've been in the back room, and they definitely had a two layered cage with SEVERAL puppies in them. And the poor little 'layaway puppies' and not taken care of the way the rest are. When we bought one of our puppies there, we used the layaway room and our puppy was COVERED in poop and it was all over his pen, and he had a bone dry water dish. Last but definitely not least, the owner of the store has to be one of the RUDEST people I have ever met. Once while I was there I heard her yelling, screaming, and barking orders at the employees. She puts on a nice act, but that's all it is, an act!

Clearing up the facts replied on 06/14/09
It's clear that when you have come to the store the puppies were sleeping. To say they were lifeless and just laying there - well that's what puppies do when they sleep. These puppies get to stay together in pens and play together. Get to be petted by customers just reaching down in the pens - so they get lots of attention and need to sleep. Puppies need about 19 hours of sleep a day. As far as the my standing at the door and barking order - that is not possible because I do not manage the store on a daily basis.

I don't think anyone here understands what a puppy mill is. Puppy mills are places where a female is bred constantly. She is constantly producing litters and the litters are back bred so much they produce unhealthy animals. I would not be surprised if Pets Galore gets their animals from a puppy mill. If not a puppy mill then a terrible backyard breeder. So what if the puppies aren't in cages? That's the least of the problems out there in most pet stores. So what if they're given shots on site? The fact of the matter is that these animals are bred like crazy when there are perfectly healthy animals in shelters. When you buy from a pet store you're sentencing a shelter animal to death. Even if it's a "no kill" shelter that animal is still lonely because you all choose to buy from a pet store that claims to sell "purebreds" People who shop there and buy their animals there are doing nothing but contributing to the death of so many shelter animals...mutts and purebreds!

Shelters vs Pet Store replied on 06/14/09
This has been an age-old discussion. I feel we do the best we can by not having puppies shipped in - either by truck or airplane - from the puppy mills in the midwest. We buy puppies from local people and personally drive to pick them up - which is more effort than any of our competitors. I know there are people who totally think you should adopt a pet - but those who do not agree with your philosophy should have the ability to make their own choice.

A bought a lab puppy from them 3 weeks ago and had no issues what so ever. However, I must say I was a little reluctant at first after reading past reviews of Pets Galore. So I went to the store twice to checks things out before I decided on my new puppy. The staff was courteous, the place was clean, and all the animals were feed, watered and looked to be in good health. I'm not sure where the stories of sick animals have come from but I did an little investigative work and it seems that there was some kind of management change that happened there about a 1 1/2 years ago so that may explain it.

As a dog trainer, I am very conscious of how dogs are treated. I have spent many hours at Pets Galore training dogs and interacting with the staff. Puppies at Pets Galore receive a lot of personal attention and TLC that they would not get anywhere else. They are well socialized with people and other animals. The puppies are taken out of their pens multiple times a day to get the exercise needed to keep them healthy. Pets Galore is a wonderful place to visit - and to buy a pet!

Ratings_icons Love my puppy from Pets Galore!

A S.

I purchased my Golden Retriever from this store in 2006 and right now we are considering a second doggie. My kids and I can't wait to get back there to pick out another little loving puppy. We love how you can can reach right over and pet them and then take them to the play area if there is more interest. How else will you be able to see how the dog responds, if its playful ect. Other places they are behind small glass cages and you have to wait for ever for someone to come with a key to unlock them, to stand there with you probably tapping their foot waiting for you to decide if your buying or not so they can then LOCK them back up! How awful is that!? Pets Galore has a great selection of dogs also. Gives you lots to choose from. We will be seeing you all soon to bring home our second dog from your store! Cant Wait!

I purchased a Yellow Lab the beginning of January 09 and what a wonderful little guy. Reading all the bad reviews is no reason not to visit the store. Off course, this aroused my interest to visit. There is a difference walking in a pet store where the animals are in single cages and behind glass. Would you smell all of the odors? I don't think so! When your animal does their business does it smell? If not, I quess they release roses! Do you? The puppies are not alone and are in the open and have room to romp. In the past I have purchased puppies from private owners and have found it doesn't matter where they are purchased as far a health issues. I owned a Yorkie purchased (many many years ago) from a private owner and he ended up having heart problems. I have a basset hound (now 10 years old) purchased from a breeder in Pennsylvania, who is in good health. If you read about the breed of dog you choose to purchase you will find the health issues they can encounter in the future. Hopefully they don't. Is the private pet owner or pet store the one to blame? I would say it has to do with genetics. Now, talking about price for a puppy. My yorkie cost $350.00 twenty-one years ago, my basset hound $600.00 ten years ago. Checking the newspaper and on-line for yellow labs Pets Galore was no way expensive in comparison. The woman who helped us was very friendly. I have no negative words to say about the customer service I received. Anyone knows you can find bad service at anytime in any working environment. I have called the pet store to ask about the training classes they offer, at a reasonable price, which myself and my new lab will be attending.

This store is a disgrace and has always been since it's inception. I have been visiting(not patronizing) this store for many years and am absolutely floored by the incompetence and lenience of AACO animal control. With each change of ownership and management it's tradition of neglect and abuse, as well incredibly low standards are passed on.

I rescued a puppy from this store years ago because she had an open wound on her head( I paid cost and not a cent more). She was still housed with other puppies that were licking and chewing at the the wound, no doubt causing it to grow and become worse. The odor from the lesion was absolutely rank. But with the most modest care it healed quickly. Care that the staff could have easily provided if they actually cared about the well being of these animals.

I have been in their back room, I have seen the puppies on deaths door step from neglect. I have seen the piles of dead reptiles in cages and the wounds on small animals that are housed together despite the fact that they fight. Oh, and the guinea pigs that are all housed together. Males and females alike. Females large with babies, previous litters pregnant with their brothers and fathers offspring, females bred back to back destroying their bodies. Not to mention the percentage of puppies with kennel cough and the inadequate enclosures for the majority of their reptiles.

Those who have given positive reviews must be oblivious to the basic needs of animals. You may have lucked out and managed to buy the only healthy puppy in that store. But turning a blind eye to the remaining animals that you left behind certainly doesn't help potential customers or the animals that are victims of their horrible circumstances.

This store needs to be shut down!!!!

The only thing I can say is that your statements are outrageous. "Piles of dead reptiles in cages"? Pretty unbelievable. We would not still be in business if this was the case. We are inspected regularly by the Health Department, Animal Control and DNR - and if your accusations were true we would have been out of business years ago. Believe me there are so many animal rights groups that they would have made sure of it.
Ratings_icons Isn't this illegal?

I bought a black lab pup there last week. It is a very clean store, with very friendly personell. I took the puppy to my Vet last night, and i showed him the pup's so called "shot record", and the vet said, this does not look right. He said that something is wierd about that, and he doesn't trust it. He's starting my puppy on his first set of shots this Friday.

I just called the store to see what the "vet's" name was who gave my dog his shots, and she said "um, the shots are given to the dogs personally by us". I dont know, is that illegal for someone who is not a trained Vet/vet tech to give an animal shots? Other than that, it was a very friendly atmosphere. I would not recomment paying that much money for a dog that is "registered", and has it's first set of "shots" though.

Thanks for your comments. replied on 02/19/09
It is not illegal for someone - us, breeder or owner - to give their own immunization shots. They can be purchased locally at the Farmer's Coop store or online. Many vets in the area use this reasoning as an excuse to start the entire shot process over and charging an office visit and for the shot - usually between $35 - $50 each time. The shot can be purchased for $3.50. Shots protect the puppies which is what we are about - but also from a business side protects our investment. We have absolutely no motivation to not protect the puppy and give it a $3.50 shot ..... but vets have huge monetary motivation into scaring you to start all over with the shots.

ive veiwed many aspects from all angles and points. this place is worthless. everything they have is cheaper anywhere else and they mark everything up 2.5 times face value to fill there greedy pockets. they DO get their puppies from puppy mills the name zimmerman on most the registraition papers proves that fact. some time ago in people magazine there was an artical bout the breeder zimmerman killing an amount of puppies on his farm. same name as whats on many peoples papers.. i was recently forced out of my job at pets galore in a very unfriendly way and it was just completly childish. they dont pay there employees time and a half for anything over 40 hours, which is illegal. the store is filthy. the reptile section is ok compared to others but the reptile manager (former fishboy from house of tropicals) is never tending to the reptiles.i dont recommend this place to anybody.

I don't want to give them any stars. I got my shitzu for Valentine's Day in 2005 and I do a very good job of taking care of him. Despite my efforts, he was dealt a bad hand from the begining. He was born crossed-eyed and jittery. He has seizures. On top of that, he's had four surgeries in 8 weeks due to a rectal prolapse. It's heartbreaking. He's so young and he has to go through so much. The people at Pets Galore are not interested in the well being of the pets they sell. There are merely interested in profit.

You bought a puppy 4 years ago and it is a shame that it has had such medical issues but there is no way we could have predicted the future for that puppy. All we can do is give a medical guarantee with each puppy for a reasonable about of time and make sure you don't incur any costs for something that might have been pre-existing. You obviously love your puppy and I am so happy it is owned by someone so caring and financially able to provide the care needed.
Ratings_icons We purchased a great puppy!

My husband and I purchased a saint bernard puppy from pets galore in august 2008. She is now 7 months old and is very healthy. Any time you purchase a puppy from a place where other people bring there dogs in and you have other puppies you are going to have puppies that get colds or kennel cough. This is not the pet stores fault nor the staff.Check with your vet, sometimes it just happens. We had a good experience with the store and the staff. I know in the past pets galore{just wingIn it]was a horrible pet store but they are under new management so just give them a chance. Our puppy is the most well behaved and sweetest dog we have ever owned.

I appreciate your objective opinion. We are not a glitzy pet store are in an older shopping center. Many people kind of like our homey environment and call us "the last old fashioned pet store"! Thanks again.
Ratings_icons THE TRUTH

girly g.

Extremly satisfied customer of pets galore. Me and my boyfriend have 3 chihuahuas that we purchased from this store. Never once have I had a problem with this place like most of you speak of and i am a very frequent customer. They were all regestered and in the best of health. Now we have 6 chihuahuas because they had 3 puppies. Oh and i forgot to mention that i am a reptile breeder and i get all of my reptiles through pets galore. They arealways in the best of health and so much cheaper in price than any other place. Inow have well over 300 different kinds of reptiles from pets galore.
Okay... and my biggest pet peeve with everyones comments is about the smell. Letme put it in this perpesctive, when you use the restroom and flush the toilet when your done i can guaruntee that your bathroom still smells like poop! Same concept. when a puppy has a bowel movement the staff is right behind to clean it up. sorry it doesnt smell like flowers. This is the real world here.
This pet store uses play pins instead of cages where the puppies have no room to move except when they get their limited play time. Theyprovide a comfortable bedding 4 the pups to lay and play in. The water bowls are always fresh and as for the few that sometimes have pine in them observe the action of the puppies in the pin having fun running around playing and they accidently kick pine in the bowls. no way to prevent that but the staff again is right behind to clean up the mess.
Also their reptile department is different form any other. Unlike the leading competition they have many different reptiles for sale and whats not at the store usually they can order for you. If you are into exotic reptiles anything froma ball python to green tree pythons. They have it all and its healthy.
The biggest benefit of pets galore is that your are greatly accomodated all the way around. They have the best prices in every department.
I really hate all the negative things said about pets galore and back in the day it was something to talk about but now that they are under new managment with educated and experienced staff you shouldnt be able to do anything but make compliments. So take a look for yourself and i highly reccomend anyone to pets galore who wants to be satisfied with their purchases whether it be a puppy, a reptile, bird, or small animal.
please if you have any comments to my posting whether they be positive or negative feel free to email me, diamondintherough1@tmail.com

Ratings_icons I have never seen such happy healthy puppies in a pet store.

Mary J.

I bought a puppy at Pets Galore and it is the most social, friendly dog I have ever owned. They do not keep their puppies in cages - which I Love! Anyone complaining about the soft pine they have in their pens in ridiculous - would you rather see them in cages by themselves or on grates!

Everyone can reach down and pet the puppies which is why they are so friendly.

Complain about the smell - gee what would you house smell like if you had 50 or 60 puppies in there? It's ridiculous to think there would be no smell whatsoever but believe me- it does NOT hit you in the face. I saw the staff cleaning and scooping constantly.

Anyway - just tired of only negative showing up on these websites. No pet store is perfect but this is the closest I have seen.

You and I obviously have the same philosophy about cages and puppies. Puppies need to eat together, play togegether and sleep on top of each other! Thanks for your comments.
Ratings_icons VERY VERY SAD...

Ted D.

Unbelievable!! The Disgusting smell hits you before you get through the first door. Dogs and wood chips is a deadly combination. There are reptiles large enough and deadly enough to eat these babies if they ever get loose. The food and water bowls get filled withWood chips and the poor pups cannot eat without ingesting the wood. The way they have their pups displayed is horrible...causes fear in smaller pups that cannot get away from the more agressive ones...I saw the fighting and no one in the store cared one bit to see what was going one. A customer actually reached over and saved the little fellow from horrible beating of a larger pup. If their friends are the Amish in PA, then they are right to say they buy off of friends and family. Look at the breeders on the papers before you purchase. If you do not get papers at the time of purchase, walk away...you will never get them after you walk out of that store. There are many other places to get sweet pups...check out other places before you stoop to this place.

Of course people who buy puppies with AKC or ACA papers receive their papers. (We don't use the fake companies like American Pet Registry - lol). Of course we don't let puppies beat up each other. And of course the pine sometimes gets in the water. But the last line gave you away .... I know exactly which pet store wrote this and is trying to turn people off and go to their store! lol lol
Ratings_icons Disreputable pet store -- sick puppies and kittens

Su B.

This pet store is awful. The smell hits you as soon as you walk in the door; the stench is oppressive. The puppies may be kept in open pens so they have room to play and they are not lonely (more than two puppies to a pen), but they are sick and not taken care of in an acceptable manner. You simply have to look at the puppies to see that they are sick -- the signs are obvious in their eyes (weepy and watery and red), ears (signs of mites and soreness), and nose (runny and crusted).

Also, while it may seem ideal to keep puppies housed together (so they are not lonely), in fact, it causes bad behavior due to no supervision whatsoever and the smaller pup(s) in the group gets bullied and hurt on a daily basis. Since they tend to house different sized breeds together, this can be a real problem. Plus, anyone and everyone can reach in and touch the pups spreading disease from one pen to another and children can reach in and pull tails, fur, ears and anything else they can grab onto.

The puppies are overpriced and must come from disreputable breeders and puppy mills. And on top of it all, the store knowingly sells sick puppies (and kittens when in stock). The only recourse to purchasing a sick pup is to allow them to treat it (most likely by store personnel and not by a vet) or a refund, in which case the puppy is probably either euthanized or simply resold. I hate to think of the alternatives they have to try and recoup the money they lost on a sick puppy. But I am sure that sick pups who are brought in for a refund do not fair well at this store.

This store should have been shut down some time ago and while it recently changed management (though the employees are mostly the same), I am very surprised it has remained open at all.

You and I will never agree that keeping puppies together rather than in cages causes bad behavior. And you know what - sometimes people reaching in and petting the puppies sometimes can spread disease - I agree with you there - but the alternative of keeping them in cages or behind glass alone and depressed is much worse to me. Children cannot reach into the pens - the sides are almost 4 feet tall. Puppies getting beat up ... Come on - do you really think we keep shepherds and yorkies together? Do you really think we want puppies to get hurt? And your disgusting comment about what "we do with the sick puppies" makes me ill. We work with local vets all approved by Animal Control. The slander in this review is beyond my belief.
Ratings_icons I love the way they keep their puppies at Pets Galore

Brian S.

I have been in many pet stores where depressed puppies are kept by themselves and in cages where nobody can touch them unless you look like you have money and a clerk will go get one for you. I have been to pet stores that try to be cute and put puppies in ridiculous bassinets treating them like babies but all that happens is that the puppies are sitting in poop in these things. I bought my sheltie from Pets Galore because they don't use cages or puppy mills. They have these pens with soft pine on the floor and the puppies can eat together, play together and I can reach down and pet the puppies. These puppies are very friendly because they get lots of attention from everyone. I am sure that every single pet store and breeder sometimes get sick puppies but I get tired of all the negative stuff always showing up on these sites and decided to take the time to tell the other side.

Ratings_icons so sad!

It is so sad to know these places stay in business. We bought a Boxer there and he also had a so called cold and gave it to my 12yr old boxer who became very ill and was rushed to the emergency vet. I believe we saved our little boxers life but I would never buy at a puppy store again. On the up side he turned out to be very smart and loves my kids like all boxers. If you want a healthy puppy look for and research good breeders. Go to dog shows and talk to people who show the breed you like.

I understand that puppies can get sick and it can spread - but do you really think that if you buy a puppy from a breeder that it has an invisible shield and will never get sick? Unfortunately life can be unpredicable and hard at times.

Ratings_icons I bought at Great Puppy - Dachsund - at Pets Galore

I get tired of only disguntled people taking the time to write a review and decided to make the effort. To read these reviews - only 9 in 2 years - one would think this pet store is awful - but that is not true. Their puppies are not kept in cages - they get to play together, sleep on top of each other and eat together. You can reach down and pet them so they are very social and lovable. They try to do everything possible to keep the puppies healthy and happy. When I bought my puppy, I was surprised to see that the owner has her home phone number on the contract! What other store does that! Anyone that buys a puppy and has any questions can call her at home. That kind of customer service is unheard of in this fast paced, cold world we live in today. Someone who is willing to do that is compassionate and cares about her customers and the animals in her store. My dachshund - Pete - has been healthy since the day I got him and I would highly recommend Pets Galore to anyone that wanted to buy a puppy.

Ratings_icons save the puppies

a b.

this place sells sick puppies!! i purchased a dog from here 2 days ago. time we got home it started coughing (kennel cough). i took the dog to the vet the next day and heard that they have had more than 5 dogs come in from pets galore in the past month suffering from various ailments including kennel cough, ear mites, flea infestation, parvo, and a stomach bug that comes from drinking bad water. a puppy had even died shortly after its adoption! pets galore says that they will pay to treat your puppy if returned to them-if you do return the puppy for treatment, they 'quarantine' the dog in a cold, dark room. these dogs are getting vaccinations at 4 weeks! and i bet there are not actual vets involved. i felt better about buying a dog since i probably saved its life after hearing all this from various sources. if you want to save a sick dog and have the resources to do so, go here. if you want a healthy puppy--no so much.

Let me explain.... replied on 02/19/09
Stress of change brings out lots of illnesses in puppies - most commonly upper respiratory issues. These puppies are babies that are used to being with other puppies, have never walked on grass, not used to riding in a car and get car sick, and get very stressed out. It's just like with people -- we you get really stressed you often get sick because your immune system goes down. This syndrome is very common with puppies and is the main reason we have our guarantee. There is no way a vet old you that other dogs came to see him with parvo. Parvo is extremely contagious and is immediately reported to Animal Control and we would have been investigated immediately. Further - do you really and truly believe we put sick animals in a "cold dark room"? We have a special isolation room with a separate ventilation system (inspected and approved by Animal Control) where the puppies are treated. The separate ventilation systems prevents the spread of germs to other puppies in the store. We do everything possible to ensure the health and well being of all our animals in the store.
Ratings_icons sick puppies

Anonymous

Pets Galore knowingly sells sick puppies, period. They handed us antibiotics when we took the puppies (2) home. Both puppies had various common problems like ear mites, kennel cough and intestinal problems that took a long time and many vet visits to clear up. I knew I had bought sick puppies (my kids and husband had already fallen in love with them) and had the resources to get them well. They were wonderfully socialized, but I would not believe their claim that they are not from puppy mills, since they lied about their health (told me they just had a cold). The only reason I considered going there was because they were supposedly not mill puppies. All of my other pets are rescues (some had same illnesses) and I knew buying from pet stores can keep the mills in business, so I hope others can learn from my mistake.

Ratings_icons no stars/ poor little puppy

I had the misfortune of visiting this pet store with a family member
that ended up purchasing a sick puppy. For the sake of the puppy
it ended up in loving hands of the right family who is getting the
best care for the puppy. While I was in the pet store a loose snake
fell from the ceiling that "one of the employees" to another employee said got out like 2 weeks before that they thought had been stolen. I wonder if the other people who have purchased sick
puppies, have experienced the same illness as my family member has experienced with her puppy. If so "SHAME" On the owner of this business, I spoke with two employees of the business who confirmed the puppy arrived on a Saturday and was purchased by my family on Monday afternoon. I asked if the puppy had a complete examination by "Vet" they do business with, They both confirmed to me puppy had not been fully examined completely because it had not been in store long enough. They said the puppy was probably tired from the travel from Pennsylvania to store and because she was the smallest puppy in the holding area of 11 other puppies they were probably playing to rough with her. Skilled and well trained staff and involved owner would have been able to identify this puppy was sick before it was sold.

I think that anyone who considers this pet shop to be a nice place for helpless little puppies.. must live in a disgusting place themselves! I have had my puppy for a little over 1 month and he has been in and out of the Vet with all different illnesses. I was recommended to call Pets Galore by my puppies groomer (He told me he also had a horrible puppy experience with Pets Galore) to see what they could do for me. I called within the time they said on the contract and the manager never called me back like they said they would. I called a second time and the manager hung up on me. This is the worst place to adopt a "healthy puppy" from and I only recommend it if you want to save a puppies life! I do not recommend this pet shop

I bought a dog from them, love the way they keep their puppies together in a soft box with hay stuff and you can take them out to a seperate area to play with the puppies. The only thing is that I think they are very high in their prices. My puppy was and still is healthy 2 years later.

Nice little pet shop, I like that they actually carry puppies on site, but not very happy with the amount of puppies they place in one crate. They have good prices on foods for all animals and certain foods (rabbits, birds, small creatures) you can buy in bulk which is nice.
