In Short
Boomerangs, Aussie flags, kangaroo portraits and faux aboriginal art honor the homeland's wilderness, but Outback delivers a polished version of rusticity with varnished blond-wood booths with matching wainscoting and casually uniformed waitstaff. Besides more than a half-dozen cuts of steak, diners can pick from large-portioned entrees like ribs, chops and shrimp or chicken "on the barbie." The Bloomin' Onion, a large onion dipped in batter and deep-fried, is an appetizer with a following.

Good ole Outback Steakhouse. The steak tastes like a salt lick created for horses. It's also either turned into charcoal or still kicking on your plate. Just plain nasty. Save your money and go to anywhere else but Outback unless you like burnt Salt!!!

Pros: air conditioned

Cons: Salt, blood, charcol burnt

outback #2 in baltimore?

by peatwo

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Outback. I know it is a great value for the food you get, but as far as steak houses are concerned, ranking Outback over the likes of Morton's and Prime Rib is cause for concern. It brings in to question how many other steak houses the voters actually tried.

Pros: inexpensive, good cold beer, fun food

Cons: waiter knowledge, rare steak overcooked, service

Right in the comfort zone

by Krueger

compared to the overpriced Ruth's Chris, this place has got it right. Steaks are great. the Vitoria's Filet (seasoned and seared) is incredible and reasonably priced.

why?

by sharona27

Outback is one of the worst restaurants around. I have been there several times and I need a chainsaw to cut the meat, always overdone and never any flavor, skip this one and go for a real steakhouse.

Cons: the food, the price

Some is Good; More NOT always better

by leopard

Creative moderate use of seasonings should be used to enhance the flavor of a good steak. I have always found Outbacks steaks to be decent, but extremely salty, with the salt overpowering the taste of the meat. They also seem to favor heavily salting many other dishes, and I find that the skin of the baked potatoes inedible due to the salt. Message to Outback, lighten up folks, give our blood pressure a break and let the good food speak for itself.

Pros: cheery atmosphere

Cons: NOT worth long lines, Way too much salt, prices not reasonable

Looking for an excuse???

by beverage01

There were five in our group and you would have thought we had three hundred!!! It took forever to get our food, and even longer to get the check ~ then the waitress said the table had to be cleared before she could give us our check when we spoke up / talk about excuses!!! She was never around either to see how we were doing. We went in around 4pm and did not get out until 7pm. SAD!!!

Cons: Extensive waits, Lots of excuses, Poor management

Grill your own steak

by fish8

In general, my feeling is that if you are going to go out for steak at a steak house then you should pony up and go to the best. $20-30 a steak is pricy...but they know how to make an exceptional steak...and it is ususally quite the experience as a whole. Most of the mid-range chains charge 15-20 for a steak and you would be better off going to Fresh Fields and just pick up a choice piece of meat and some butter and hitting the stove.

Back out of this place!

by drc918

I don't know why I thought I was going to get a nice cut of beef at the Outback - the wait was extremely lengthy and not worth it. The meat was small and not tasty at all. Just reminds me that if you want a good cut of beef, go to an expensive steak house.....

Pros: inexpensive, good parking, good onion rings

Cons: poor quality meat, long wait, poor waite staff

Are you kidding?

by majkhnds4u

The place is overrated but decent. I refuse to wait 2 1/2 hours for any place. I think people forget that its a large chain and there are many good locally owned steakhouses around.

Outback Steakhouse: "Two Thumbs Down!"

by mike0602

Outback's Steakhouse is not for the steak conossieur. Its prices, food and service are that of a fast food place. Outback's steaks are the worst I've tried in a long time. $20 for a porterloin steak that won't even digest is ridiculous. I lived in Dallas, Texas for 11 years and I went to many steakhouses there, so I should know. Stay away from Outback if you can, I live in Baltimore, and I don't know how this restaurant was rated 2nd place in MSN's best steakhouses of Baltimore listings.

Pros: Inexpensive

Top ten you've got to be kidding

by schumang

The steaks at an Outback arent bad, but they are not in the same league as a Ruth Chris or Mortons. If you are looking for an inexpensive steak Outback is a good choice. If you are looking for a top quality prime steak, Outback would not even make the list.

How did it rate this high?

by paulschiminger

It's a good steak, but next to its competitors it doesn't come close. How can the Prime Rib be below Outback? I'm incredulous.

Cons: can be crowded, expensive, ambiance is lacking

kind of unfair rating

by rickie72

Far from #2. It received such a rating because there are so many therefore frequented by more people more often. Therefore better places further away don't get the same chance. The Texas Road House hands down beats them. Perhaps NOT Ruth's Chris; but close. Given the price tag at Ruth's it should be better. But then better varies from person to person. And further from restaurant to restaurant in a chain food varies tremedously. For instance the LoneStar in Bel Air is in my opinion terrible. The LoneStar in Columbia that I frequent from Baltimore is tremendously worth the trip. More so the Texas Road House on RT 140 in Manchester-Hampstead. The Texas Road House in Morgantown WV is even better but not by much. As for the rest - they are so far behind they shouldn't be mentioned on the same list. But - this is just my opinion!

Pros: close to home, decent price, pretty girls

Cons: greasy food, fat meat, noisy

Can't Touch This

by nasty

I've been frequenting the OutBack in Annapolis for many years. I've also been to Ruth Chris's Steak House in downtown Baltimore. Not only were the steaks at OutBack tastier than Ruth Chris's, but a less than half the cost!! If ever you and your family are debating the two, just know that any OutBack in your area will blow away high strung steak house near you!!!!!!

Pros: inexpensive, worth any wait, amazing food

Cons: a little crowded

It's a "Dingo" compared to the others

by Raven_and_Wild_Bill_Cody

I'm not sure how such an establishment is located in the middle of the ratings with places such as Ruth's Chris and the Prime Rib, Flemmings and Shula's. This is an upscale Western Sizzler !!!! How can people include the Outback (and pricey by comparison to what you get for what you pay) with truly great steak houses....no matter how you may rank the rest of the list - The Outback doesn't belong....period !!!

Pros: only a 2 hour wait, easy to eavsdrop, the onion is good

Cons: food is poor at best, waitress will be 21, expensive

OUTBACK on Top

Delicious selection of steaks and fresh salads brings me back again and again. With just the right amount of spices, steaks are always cooks to perfection. If only 2 of you go to dinner, head for the bar and catch a quick seat there.

Cons: Crowds

Never Down in the Mouth

by swarner

Every time that I have visited Outback I have ordered a steak that has come out so tender and juicy that you almost don't need a knife to cut it. The atmosphere also adds to the overall experience. Would I recommend Outback to anyone? Yes, even if they didn't have all their teeth!

Outback has the best steaks around for the best price. Everything on the menu is made fresh everyday and the steaks are never frozen. The drinks are phenomenal and the staff is always smiling and having a great time. This is the best time that you can have when you go out!

Busiest Outback in the World

by courtwalk

My friend just started waitressing here. This IS the busiest Outback Steakhouse in the world. So be prepared to wait, but it's definately worth the wait. Remember that the bar area is first come first serve and you'll be in in no time. Outback also owns the Carrabba's italian restaurant that shares that same parking lot. I haven't had steak there but friends tell me their steak gives Outback themselves a run for their money! Now that's worth a try!

Pros: Great food, great service, average prices

Cons: long wait, you won't park close, big parties beware
