Although I have not been to Casey's for over 25yrs, I can tell you this is the BEST place to camp. Of the 5 times I've been there, I have always hated to leave and would plan the next trip immediately!
I don't know if Casey himself is still around, but he was the greatest! At that time, a very hardworking man who did whatever was necessary, to make everyone's stay the best ever! Where else can you camp and see a deer waiting for you near the bathroom most every morning? Also each morning we would wake up very early, before the fog lifted from the nearby bogs and with coffee in hand, sit hiding waiting for the Moose to come take a bite of the water grasses in the bogs.
I will never forget Casey digging a HUGE hole in the ground and feeding it with wood and burning all day long. At the end of the day he would place a large cast iron pot of home-made baked beans and cover over with dirt which cooked till the end of the day. The smell that ran through the camp ground was like no other, and man o man were they delicious!
Casey had a hound dog named Shirley who was an instant friend. Casey let us take her for walks around the campground and she pretended to enjoy being with us, although we enjoyed being with her more I'm sure!
We took a seaplane ride over the lake and what a beautiful trip that was.
On one occasion, we decided to take a ride up and down the logging roads that circled the lake. I can tell you that was a BIG mistake and if not for a couple of guys who happened to be on those roads in their pickup...(angel sent)...we would have been lost for good! What looks like a straight-up road on a map most definitely is NOT the case in Maine!... Stay off of them. The logging truckers are out of their minds also...they book-it down those roads, and is very scary to see them coming toward you from the other direction down to Greenville.
I now live in Tucson AZ and I miss Maine so very much and all of my great camping adventures. I hope whomever is running this campground keeps it as wonderful as I remember 25yrs ago!
Kudos to Casey's Spencer Bay Camps! Love it Love it Love it! xooxoxoxoxoxoxo

Our family has camped at Casey's numerous times a year for the past 7 years. We have combined camping experience from all over the country. Our times on Moosehead Lake camping here are unforgetable largely because this campground is so beautiful, pleasant and worry free. No worries about loud and rambuncious partiers, the campground is quiet and family friendly. We will return for many years and I am sure our children will continue the tradition. Casey's is the highlight of our family's summer.
