The Best Curry this side of the pond.

by Jay D.

About 6 months after moving back from London my wife and I found a coupon for Haggartys "Brit-Indie Curry". We had been living in the UK for 3 years and eating curry weekly so after 6 months of no curry we were jonesing for some samosa or a tika-bunnah.

Haggartys was and still is the fix. We go there once a month and we tell everyone about it. Although it's not the same as the UK, the Glaswegian (Glasgow, Scotland decent) owner/head-chef Peter knows his stuff.

What a Scotsman running a curry house??!!

Yes, and he does it just as well as our of fav, Bombay Spice in Teddington, UK.

The menu is very stream-lined. It has 4 or 5 regular appetizer's and the occasional special item, the usual sides of rice and nan-bread and 6 main dishes.

In the UK we fell in love with Onion Bajas which is a deep-fried mass of onions and batter with curry spices. Sadly he doesn't have them but instead he has Pakoras either veggie of chicken.
We like them so much we order 2 portions which is about 20 deep-fried balls of veggies and batter. MMMM

We always get Garlic-Naan bread again 2 orders it's so good.

All of the main dishes come with a healthy portion of rice and the styles vary enough to make every taste happy. My wife gets a mild veggie dish like Korma or Jelfrezzie. But I on the other hand like it hot so I get the South Indian Garlic Chili with Chicken. It's hot but not so you can't taste your food. He has a special hotter dish but I haven't ventured that far yet.

The food portions are so large that it feeds my wife and I for the weekend (1 main meal and 2 lunches and maybe a 3rd).

Lastly is the price.
We order 2 apps, 2 sides of bread and 2 main dishes and no drinks can be around $35. It's more expensive that "fast-food" pizza but it taste a lot better.

If you want so "take-away" curry Haggarts is the place.

PROS: Quality, Quantity
CONS: limited menu
